Daniel Radcliffe of Harry Potter movie fame and Tony winner Richard Griffiths will star in the widely anticipated Broadway revival of Peter Shaffer's "Equus" this fall. The play begins previews on September 5 and will open on September 25 for what is being described as a strictly limited 22-week engagement, through February 8, 2009. The Shubert Organization will produce Equus at its Broadhurst Theatre, directed by Thea Sharrock.

Equus is the powerful and provocative story of stable boy Alan Strang (Radcliffe) and Dr. Martin Dysart (Griffiths), the psychiatrist who tries to unravel the religious and sexual mystery that ensues when the troubled teenager blinds six horses. Dysart must face his doubts about his own work when confronted with Strang's complex case. The two stars received critical praise and played to sold-out houses during a five-month engagement of Equus at London's Gielgud Theatre last year.

This will be the first Broadway revival of Equus since its debut in 1974 in a production that starred Anthony Hopkins as Dysart and Peter Firth as Strang. Equus won the 1975 Best Play Tony Award and ran for 1,209 performances.

The Broadhurst Theatre is currently the home of a revival of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof", starring Terrence Howard (speaking of another hard to come by ticket!), James Earl Jones, Phylicia Rashad and Anika Noni Rose, which opened on March 6 as a limited run (through June 15) but has been playing to capacity business.
