Mamma Mia- A Global Smash Hit!

Planning a weekend getaway to NYC this summer? Still trying to decide what to see? I have a suggestion, go see Mamma Mia on Broadway. I am a sucker for these kinds of shows. Set on a Greek Island, on the eve of her wedding a girl suddenly realizes one of three men from her mother’s past could be her father. It’s a cute story and of course it has a happy ending!

What really grabbed me with this show was the infectious music of Abba. Mamma Mia brings to life such classic hits such as “Dancing Queen”, “Take a Chance on Me” and “The Winner Takes It All”.

Not only do we sell tickets to shows on Broadway but we also sell tickets to London’s West End. In the spring of 1999 Mamma Mia opened at the Prince Edward theatre. It was a smash hit from opening night. I couldn’t wait to see it. Lucky me, I was going to be in England that summer. Having been at Applause since I graduated college in 1994 I can probably say I have seen pretty much everything that has hit the Great White Way since then. Can I remember what I did before or after the theater for each one? Not really. What I do remember is the first time I saw Mamma Mia. I walked into the Prince Edward theatre full of anticipation. People from all over the world were in the theatre, but we all had one thing in common, our love for Abba’s music. By the end of the show we were all dancing in the aisle to “Dancing Queen” having had the time of our lives. I couldn't wait to come back to the office and let all my co workers know what a great hit Mamma Mia was going to be. How right I was. Don’t believe me? Go see it for yourself.
