Rock of Ages Proves em' Wrong on Broadway

There are many people that thought a silly little show about a small town girl falling for a "big city" rock star would never transfer from Off Broadway to Broadway. Let me tell you that Rock of Ages is doing between 80 and 90 % capacity business at the Brooks Atkinson Theater in New York City. How's that for success?

Rock of Ages takes place in 1987 at the very famous rock and roll club called Bourbon Club located on L.A.'s Sunset Strip. The story is a love story as told through the hit songs of some of music's legendary rock bands that include Styx, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benetar, Twisted Sister, Poison and several others. The songs will be recognizable to you if you are a teenager of the 70's and 80's.

I saw Rock of Ages last year when it played Off Broadway. The show is a light musical which really kind of laughs at itself. The actors are doing all they can to get the audience involved simply to have a great time. It's not great theater but then who needs great theater when you simply want to hear some fun music and be entertained while listening to songs you grew up with?

I have just found out that Rock of Ages will continue its Broadway run and open a separate production in April 2010 in Toronto. I can't imagine that a fun city like Toronto would have a problem selling lots of seats in their city as well. I wish them well there.
