Buy Tickets for Shrek The Musical on Broadway- at BELOW FACE VALUE

Here's a tip Broadway fans. The best kept secret on Broadway right now is how fantastic Shrek The Musical really is. In addition, did you know you can see this amazing show for less than the regular FACE VALUE printed on the ticket?

It's true, prior to this years Tony Award nominations that are due out any day now (and we expect Shrek to get their share), our company, Applause Theater Service, the locally licensed Broadway Show ticketing experts, can help you obtain orchestra and front mezzanine seats for Shrek for much less than you'd pay if you bought tickets from any other ticket company.

Shrek The Musical is based on the William Steig cartoon adventures of Shrek and the Oscar-winning film of the same name. The main character is called Shrek, played by Brian d'Arcy James, who does an outstanding job on stage along with his co-stars, Sutton Foster (playing Princess Fiona) and Christopher Sieber (playing Lord Farquaad) and Daniel Breaker (playing the Donkey). This is truly a very funny show with lots and lots of laughs with great acting and music as well. Direction is by Jason Moore and the Book and Lyrics are by David Lindsay-Abaire with Music by Jeanine Moore. Don't miss this show, its one you'll never forget.

If Shrek wins several Tony Awards for excellence in the Broadway Theater, my guess is that these discounted tickets we have access to, may be discontinued. For now though, they could use the business at Shrek. So if you think this show might be fun for you and your loved ones to see, simply call Applause Theater Service in New York at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930 and ask for your amazing seats at BELOW FACE VALUE. Just say The Broadway Ticket Man sent you.

Sincerely,

Desire Under The Elms on Broadway-Buy tickets at Below Face Value

A few days ago I had the pleasure of seeing a fantastic play at New York's St. James Theater. The show is called Desire Under The Elms, a Eugene O'Neill piece that was written in 1924. Inspired by a Greek tragedy, Desire Under The Elms is a story about a man in his 70's called Ephraim Cabot who returns to his families farm one day with his much younger wife, Abbie. Abbie falls "head over heels" in love with Ephraim's son, Eben. Needless to say, you will be on the edge of your seat as you witness the tragic consequences that transpire.

Although I usually look forward to attending musicals, I decided to see Desire Under The Elms because one of my favorite actors, Brian Dennehy has a starring role in the show. Mr. Dennehy was terrific in his part as was the outstanding performances of Carla Gugino (Abbie) and Pablo Schreiber (Eben). Robert Falls, one of the Broadway theater's leading directors, does a marvelous job in making you feel for all the characters on stage. Now that I have seen this show, I plan on seeing additional non-musicals in the coming weeks. There's nothing like "live theater", is there?

Desire Under The Elms plays every day except Mondays. Right now tickets are on sale through the summer of 2009 and for Applause Theater Service customers and our Broadway Ticket News blog subscribers, we are offering special discounted seats for this wonderful show for all performances through July 5, 2009.

If you think Desire Under The Elms is a show you might want to see, you can contact Applause Theater Service. They are a locally, licensed New York City Broadway expert. Ask for great seats at "below face value". Buying seats at BELOW FACE VALUE for Desire Under The Elms is easy. Just call Applause at their New York office at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930 and tell them Rich Gladstone, The Broadway Ticket Man sent you.

The friendly folks at Applause will set you up for a great Broadway experience at the best prices you can get. You'll have enough left over from the discount you receive to take your loved ones to a superb meal prior to seeing Desire Under The Elms. If you are looking for suggestions on places to eat, you can have a look at Restaurant Row, a great city block of cool restaurants we ourselves frequent before the theater often.

Enjoy Desire Under The Elms or the Broadway Show of your choosing.

Sincerely,
Rich Gladstone

Musical Revivals Are The Thing!

Right now there are five musical revivals currently running on the Great White Way. They are Chicago,Guys and Dolls,Hair,South Pacific, and West Side Story. The longest running revival is Chicago which has been running since October 1996.Now granted I loved the show when I saw it back in 1997 but I never expected it to be still running some twelve years later. Say what you want about producers Barry and Fran Weissler but they know how to keep a show running.

Next up is one of my all time favorite shows Guys and Dolls. Having seen both the 1992 revival and the current production I can honestly tell you that while both productions are radically different in style and performance I enjoyed them both. I also think that the critics were much too harsh in their reviews about the current revival.Yes it is a different Guys and Dolls that most people are used to but so what? If you are going to revive a show like Guys and Dolls again then you need to bring something new to it. If not then what's the point?

This season's second revival and one of my favorite shows of the season is the revival of Hair. Prior to seeing the show I had never seen a production of the show or the much loved film. I loved everything about the show. From the sexy and energetic cast to the soulful and inspiring score I was transferred back to the 1960's. I fully expect this show to win the Tony Award for Best Revival along with a win for it's innovative director Diane Paulus.

Last years most acclaimed show and one of our biggest sellers is South Pacific. This Tony Award musical is the first Broadway revival of this Broadway treasure since it opened over fifty years ago. I saw the show in previews and was totally enchanted by the show. The show now in it's second year currently stars Tony winner Paulo Szot and Laura Osnes.

Finally is West Side Story. I loved the movie since I saw it over twenty years ago and was dying to see the show for the first time live on stage.I thought it was a good production. Do I think it deserves all the praise that it has received? No. I think Karen Olivo is the shining star in this overall lackluster production. Now remember this is just my opinion. Do I think you should not see the show? Not at all.I think most people will love the show. I just didn't.

"Accent on Youth" Opens on Broadway to Some Mixed Reviews

Unfortunately I have yet to see "Accent on Youth" starring one of my favorite TV/Broadway celebrities David Hyde Pierce. You see, this time of year, right before the Tony cut off, we are overwhelmed with so many shows opening and this happened to overlap with some of the other shows that I really wanted to see. Some of my friends did catch the show and liked it well enough as did the critics. No big raves by any means but the NY Times(the most important one) did like it quite a bit. So here is a roundup of all the major reviews for your reading pleasure;

"Accent on Youth":

[ NYT ] ArtsBeat: A Modern Man for a 1930s Comedy By ERIK PIEPENBURG
David Hyde Pierce, the star of "Spamalot," "Curtains" and "Frasier," talks about performing in the Broadway revival of "Accent on Youth."
[ NYT ] Audio Slide Show: Playing a Playwright
David Hyde Pierce talks about starring in the revival of "Accent on Youth."
[ NY ] Mary Catherine Garrison on Romancing David Hyde Pierce in Broadway's Accent on Youth
[ HC ] David Hyde Pierce Shines In 'Accent On Youth' By MALCOLM JOHNSON
With David Hyde Pierce giving a finely measured display of wit and sophistication as playwright Steven Gaye, Daniel Sullivan's production largely succeeds in restoring Raphaelson's reputation.
[ TNO ] AGELESS WONDERS by JESSICA BRANCH
Accent on Youth is an ageless charmer, with more vigor than many modern shows-as well as a touch of wisdom.
[ BR ] '30s revival pushes nostalgia buttons BY ROBERT FELDBERG
The play is imperfect - the characters' motivations don't always make sense, and the plot takes a dubious turn - but it's amusing and charming, and effortlessly pushes our nostalgia buttons.
[ NYT ] Too Old to Be Hot? Not This Guy By CHARLES ISHERWOOD
Age has not exactly withered this 1934 comedy about a May-December romance in the theater world. But it has not done it any great favors either.
[ TM ] Accent on Youth Reviewed by: David Finkle
David Hyde Pierce leads an adept cast in Samson Raphaelson's mildly entertaining if dated comedy about theater folk.
[ V ] Accent on Youth Review by David Rooney
David Hyde Pierce's effortless timing makes this antiquated comedy tick by painlessly enough.
[ TB ] Accent on Youth Review by Matthew Murray
If it's as hoary a museum piece as one can imagine, at least Sullivan, Hyde Pierce, Garrison, and the others have made it as pristine as possible. Because of the talent of everyone involved, you'll probably be glad you saw Accent on Youth. But you'll be even happier when you can jump back in your time machine and head home.
[ ND ] 'Accent on Youth' starring David Hyde Pierce BY LINDA WINER
The well-dressed production is more than dutiful, but less than scintillating. It's merely pleasant in the leisurely, mild-mannered style of elevated summer stock.
[ AP ] 'Youth' examines a May-December romance By MICHAEL KUCHWARA
Not that Raphaelson's play is a lost masterpiece, but the revival that Manhattan Theatre Club opened Thursday at Broadway's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre is an amiable, minor-league diversion.
[ THR ] Review: Accent on Youth By Frank Scheck
This vintage drawing-room comedy is showing its age.
[ AMNY ] Review of Accent on Youth by Matt Windman (2 out of 4 Stars)
[ NYP ] 'YOUTH' IS WASTED By ELISABETH VINCENTELLI (*)
[ EW ] Review: Accent on Youth By Jeff Labrecque (C-)
[ BS ] Accent on Youth - Reviewed by ERIK HAAGENSEN
"Accent on Youth" is the kind of play for which the word "chestnut" was appropriated. No doubt titillating and somewhat sophisticated in its day, in 2009 it just creaks, groans, and lumbers its way across the stage of the former Biltmore Theatre despite the best efforts of a talented company.
Call Applause today to get your tickets to this classic show and ask a sales expert for an "Insider Deal" which means we can get you tickets below the normal face value of the tickets. Who could ask for anything more? Call 800-451-9930

What Does The Future Hold For Broadway?

Unless you're a big Broadway freak like me you probably didn't realize that yesterday marked the 13th Anniversary of Rent opening on Broadway. It got me thinking about how far Broadway has come since that date and where it is going as we head towards 2010. No show before or since has effected me the way that Rent has. Sure there have been shows over the years that have touched me. There are some that have even made me cry. Now I'm not saying that any of the shows currently running on Broadway don't belong. They do. From the Disney shows to classic revivals to new plays and musicals these shows have secured their place on Broadway. However this season alone has had over eighteen revivals of both plays and musicals. The one good thing is that of the nine new musicals that have opened on Broadway this season five were based on original stories and not a popular movie, book, or cartoon. That alone gives me hope for the future of Broadway as we move forward. I hope I am right.

Carrie Fisher Coming To Broadway In Fall 2009

It was just announced that author, screenwriter, and film star Carrie Fisher will make her Broadway debut with her autobiographical play Wishful Drinking.I have been a fan of Ms. Fisher's since I first saw her over thirty years ago in Star Wars and I can't wait to see her live on stage in what I am sure will be an evening of laughter and heartache. The show which is being produced by the Roundabout Theatre Company,in association with Jonathan Reinis, Jamie Cesa, Eva Price & Berkeley Repertory Theatre, will begin previews on September 22 at Studio 54. Opening night is scheduled for October 4 and will run thru January 3, 2010.

According to the producing partners, "In Wishful Drinking, Carrie Fisher recounts the true and intoxicating tale of her life as a Hollywood legend, told with the same wry wit she poured into bestsellers like 'Postcards from the Edge.' The daughter of Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, Carrie Fisher became a cultural icon when she starred as Princess Leia in the first 'Star Wars' trilogy at 19 years old. Forever changed, Carrie's life did not stay picture perfect. Fisher is the life of the party in this uproarious and sobering look at her Hollywood hangover."

Wishful Drinking which first premiered in November 2006 at the Geffen Playhouse has also enjoyed successful runs at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre,Arena Stage,Huntington Theatre Company, and the Seattle Repertory Theatre.

Wishful Drinking will play Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8 PM with Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 PM. Tickets are set to go on sale in July so don't wait too long as I expect Wishful Drinking to be one of next season's big hits.

Waiting For Godot Opens April 30

The new Broadway revival of Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot starring Tony Award winners Bill Irwin, Nathan Lane,John Glover, and Emmy nominee John Goodman opens tonight at Studio 54. The show which is being produced by the Roundabout Theater Company began previews on April 3 and is scheduled to run thru July 5. Waiting for Godot, according to Roundabout, "revolves around two seemingly homeless men waiting for someone — or something — named Godot. Vladimir (Bill Irwin) and Estragon (Nathan Lane) wait near a tree on a barren stretch of road, inhabiting a drama spun from their own consciousness. The result is a comical wordplay of poetry, dreamscapes and nonsense, which has been interpreted as a somber summation of mankind's inexhaustible search for meaning." I myself have not seen the show but word of mouth so far has been good. I expect the production as well as some of it's stars to receive some Tony nominations when they are announced next week. Until next time theatre lovers.

9 to 5 Set To Open On Broadway

Following an out of town tryout and three weeks of previews on Broadway 9 to 5 The Musical is set to open on Broadway tonight at the Marquis Theatre. The show which is based on the hit 1980 film features a score by Dolly Parton and a libretto by the film's screenwriter Patricia Resnik. Stephanie J. Block, Megan Hilty and Allison Janney take on the roles created by Jane Fonda, Dolly Parton and Lily Tomlin in the film.

I saw the show a last week and thought it was a lot of fun with great performances and a catchy score. Will the critics like it? I'm not really sure. Earlier this week the show garnered fifteen Drama Desk nominations. Now we all know that doesn't mean anything. Last year A Catered Affair received just as many nominations and wasn't even nominated for a Tony for Best Musical so you never can tell what will happen. I guess we will find out on May 5th when the Tony nominations are announced. Until next time theatre fans.

HAIR vs. WEST SIDE STORY: Broadway Tony Battle Begins/Two Shows Fight For Victory!

This is war…or anti-war…or something. Those crazy, love-loving kids from the hit revival of the revolutionary Broadway musical HAIR had a great opening night. It was a big one, and the critics couldn’t have been more harmonious in their praise for the show. The result is that there is now a battle of two shows for the best musical revival nod…and we’re not talking about Guys and Dolls(although it's still a great musical that should be seen).

This is a Broadway battle between the Arthur Laurent’s gangs from WEST SIDE STORY against the peace-loving nudies from HAIR. The prize is nothing less than Tony Awards, affection and most importantly an audience! West Side Story has had fantastic box-office numbers, and is the more “traditional” of the two shows. HAIR seems to have the advantage of retaining its credibility both as an anti-establishment show and as a relevant exploration of the complications of youth and is also selling extremely well.
Both shows are stunning Broadway, and it will be a battle worth watching as the two shows compete for the hearts
and minds of Tony voters, and audiences. What an amazing season on Broadway this is! I'd have to say my vote goes to Hair. Sorry Arthur! It just blew my socks off!

Call Applause now to get your tickets to these great shows while you still can(especially before
the Tony nominations come out next Tuesday 5/5) and any show on Broadway for that matter. We have great deals available(ask for the Insider Deals). We always get you the best seats at a great price! 800-451-9930

Morton and Rashad Join Broadway's August: Osage County In May

On May 26, the Broadway production of the play August: Osage County will get two very interesting additions to the cast. Amy Morton, who originated the role of Weston daughter Barbara (for which she received numerous awards and nominations), will return to the part that she made such an indelible mark on. On that same day, Phylicia Rashad (The Cosby Show, numerous Broadway productions including the recent Cat On A Hot Tin Roof revival) will take on the role of pill-popping Weston family matriarch Violet. Morton and Rashad, both formidable actresses, will give fans of the Broadway play a good excuse to go back and see it again and also catch the great Elizabeth Ashley. August: Osage County began at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago before coming to Broadway for what was supposed to be a limited run and soon turned into a long run that is already a year and a half strong. After receiving rave reviews, Tracy Letts's dysfunctional family drama went on to win the Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Applause can save you some $$ by asking for the "Insider Deal". That means you can purchase tickets below the normal face value of the tickets. That deal is available for most Broadway shows. Call an Applause sales expert now at 800-451-9930

"Guys and Dolls" Knocking 'em Dead on Broadway, Yet Again!!

As you may or may not know, there’s a new production on Broadway of the classic musical, Guys and Dolls, starring Oliver Platt, Lauren Graham and Craig Bierko. The word thus far has been good and the show is selling extremely well!

Now some may wonder why they should give a hoot. Isn’t this, after all, just another musical? Not really. Some will argue it's the best musical ever! In a part of theater that is generally the province of gay men and straight women, Guys and Dolls is a straight man’s paradise. In fact, it is legendary in my family because it is the first show my grandmother ever persuaded my grandfather to see. How did she do it? She let him know that it involved horse racing and gambling. He still had his doubts, but, by the end of the opening number, “Fugue for Tinhorns,” he was hooked. Here’s the number from the 1955 movie (the movie starred Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxAX74gM8DY

That’s not to be confused with “The Hills Are Alive” from The Sound of Music.
Now for a couple of numbers from the 1992 Broadway production. First, Nathan Lane and the priceless Faith Prince as the lovers who have been dating for 14 years, Nathan Detroit and his girl Adelaide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAkKPPsfZH0&feature=related

That’s two great performers working together with skill and panache.
Finally, here’s a performance on the Tony broadcast for 1992, featuring two songs with extraordinary lyrics, “Sit Down, You’re Rocking the Boat” featuring Walter Bobbie and “Guys and Dolls” with the entire cast: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XE-vFyGKu0

Lyric writing just doesn’t get any better than “And the devil will drag you under/By the sharp lapels of your checkered coat” or “When you spot a John waiting out in the rain/Chances are he’s insane as only a John can be for a Jane./When you meet a gent paying all kinds of rent/For a flat that could flatten the Taj Mahal./Call it sad, call it funny./But it’s better than even money/That the guy’s only doing it for some doll.” And composers for American musical theater don’t get much better than Frank Loesser.

This current production certainly has the "WOW" factor going for it and if you call now, an Applause Sales Expert can get you a great "Insider Deal". What is an "Insider Deal" you ask? Well it basically saves you lots of $$. You get a ticket below the normal face value of the ticket. What more can you ask for? Call us at 800-451-9930

NY Times, Critics and I all Loved "Desire Under the Elms"!!

Directly from its critically acclaimed run at Chicago's Goodman Theatre comes a work of monumental passion and epic sensuality. An intense erotic journey. An experience you will not soon forget... Eugene O'Neill's DESIRE UNDER THE ELMS, starring two-time Tony Award winner Brian Dennehy, stage and screen star Carla Gugino, and Tony nominee Pablo Schreiber, under the direction of Tony Award Winner Robert Falls.
The show will run for a strictly limited 12-week engagement at the ST. James Theatre (246 West 44th Street).
Previews began April 14th, 2009 in preparation for Opening Night which took place last night, Monday, April 27th

I was so caught up in this show and found it to be riveting in every respect and so did the critics. Here's a round up of all the reviews for your reading pleasure;

Desire Under the Elms:
[ NYT ] Audio Slide Show: The Hovering House
Walt Spangler talks about the house he designed for the set of "Desire Under the Elms."
[ NYT ] A High Freudian Love Triangle With Three Sharp Points By CHARLES ISHERWOOD
Rarely has sexual passion been depicted with such tense, animalistic ferocity as it is in this gutsy revival of Eugene O'Neill's "Desire Under the Elms."
[ NYP ] ROCK-SOLID PRODUCTION By ELISABETH VINCENTELLI (***)
Leave your sense of irony at home and embrace the insanity, and you won't find a more intense experience on Broadway.
[ CT ] Goodman's 'Desire Under the Elms' brings its steamy heat to Broadway
O'Neill purists don't like this show. They're failing to see that Falls has done their man a favor.
[ BS ] Desire Under the Elms - Reviewed by DAVID SHEWARD
As he did with his groundbreaking 1999 revival of 'Death of a Salesman', Robert Falls shatters expectations and forces us to rethink an American classic.
[ NJ ] Intense 'Desire Under the Elms' arrives on B'way by MICHAEL KUCHWARA, The Associated Press
"Desire Under the Elms" may not be of such high rank as "Long Day's Journey" or "Iceman," but Falls' startling, enormously imaginative reinvention makes a strong case of it. In other words, this revival is a must for any serious theatergoer.
[ ND ] Review: "Desire Under the Elms" BY LINDA WINER
These powerful actors buy it, which makes us willing to suspend vast stretches of inevitable disbelief.
[ V ] Desire Under the Elms Review By DAVID ROONEY
Transferring from Chicago's Goodman Theater, where it was the centerpiece of a Eugene O'Neill festival, the staging is grimly overwrought, with an intensity that never quite translates into emotional impact, yet its unyielding harshness is undeniably compelling.
[ CU ] Desire Under the Elms
Fortunately, this production has enough striking scenes to offset the risks of its excessively high concept staging
[ TM ] Desire Under the Elms Reviewed by: David Finkle
Robert Falls serves up a decibel-shattering production of Eugene O'Neill's passion-filled melodrama.
[ AMNY ] Review of Desire Under the Elms by Matt Windman (2.5 out of 4 Stars)
[ TB ] Desire Under the Elms Review by Matthew Murray
The crazed excesses polluting this production's every pore almost make the theater's last tenant, the Patti LuPone revival of Gypsy, look reasonable and restrained in comparison.
[ BN ] Dennehy's Menacing Farmer Looms in O'Neill's 'Elms': John Simon
The play runs to 100 tortured, and torturing, intermissionless minutes, perhaps to deny us a respite during which we might speculate about just how lucrative the trade in boulders could have been in 1850s New England.

Broadway Grosses: April 20-26

Mostly down this week(understandable, it's usually slow in May right before the Summer hits us), with a few exceptions i.e. MARY STUART and JOE TURNER'S COME AND GONE, both coming off raves. Lots of shows need help: DESIRE UNDER THE ELMS, REASONS TO BE PRETTY (104K, under 30% att.), NEXT TO NORMAL. You can see why IMPRESSIONISM is biting the dust. I hope the raves help THE NORMAN CONQUESTS; he too needs it. But if you're the producers of GOD OF CARNAGE, HAIR or WEST SIDE STORY, you've got to be feeling good. Tommy Batchelor stars in Broadway’s ‘Billy Elliot’

One of the biggest hits this Broadway season , "Billy Elliot", has added a fourth Billy recently, Tommy Batchelor. I hear he's just terrific!

Tommy Batchelor’s dance teacher predicted he would be on Broadway. “But she thought I would be at least 20,” said Tommy.
Now 13, he is one of four boys playing the lead role in Billy Elliot, the hit musical on Broadway.
Tommy, whose home is in Palm Beach Gardens, was spotted by a talent scout in 2007 at a ballet competition in Orlando and joined the show in May 2008. He officially became the fourth Billy in March.
With music by Elton John, Billy Elliot is based on a 2000 British movie about a boy from a working-class family in northern England who wants to be a ballet dancer. A hit in London and Sydney, Australia, the musical opened in November to raves in New York.
It’s a classic heart warmer: Young boy beats the odds to fulfill his dreams.
Like the character he plays, Tommy Batchelor knows what it means to be devoted to dance. When he was 3 years old, he saw a television biography about the legendary tap dancer Bill Bojangles. “I said, ‘I want to do that.’ ” said Tommy.
Stamina is important for the role. “The Billy's carry the show,” said casting director Nora Brennan. “They are onstage almost three hours, doing ballet, tap, gymnastics, singing and acting. It’s a very demanding role.” Apparently this kid has the chops to carry this show.
I would highly recommend getting your tickets to see this show very soon because I feel it has a very good chance of winning a whole bunch of Tony Awards come June 7th. So call an Applause Sales expert now at 800-451-9930

Rock of Ages Keeps You Rockin'

Okay, so I got to see Rock of Ages on Thursday night at its new home The Brooks Atkinson Theatre. I loved it Off- Broadway and I loved it just as much at the Atkinson. Set in In the late 1980's Rock of Ages takes place in a bar on the Sunset Strip and tells of a love story between a wanna be rocker and a small town girl. Rock of Ages features songs from your favorite big hair bands such as REO Speedwagon, STYX, Journey, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, and many more. As it is intended for mature audiences (14+) I took my 8 1/2 year old daughter to see it for her second time along with my husband who loved it and are asking to see it yet again. Rock of ages is truly an enjoyable evening out.....So if "Your Loookin' For a Good Time" don't delay Call Applause today for the best seats at the best prices to Rock of Ages!!!!!!!

Impressionism Set To Close On May 10

It was announced today that Impressionism, the new play starring Tony Award winners Jeremy Irons and Joan Allen will play it's final performance at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater on May 10. The play which opened on March 24 to mostly negative reviews was originally supposed to play thru July 5. This once highly anticipated show, mostly due to the returns of Mr. Irons and Ms. Allen to the Great White Way suffered from poor word of mouth from the get go. Will this show be remembered come Tony time? Probably not but stranger things have happened. We shall wait and see.

Go See "Hair" on Broadway ASAP!!!

"Hair" is the only show currently on Broadway that feels like an experience. The cast (The Tribe) is excellent, the production is fantastic and the songs sound better then ever. The shows themes (Sex, War, Drugs, Race) are as relevant today as they were forty years ago. The best part is the sense of community that the Tribe forms with the audience. It resonated with me long after I left the theatre. I encourage all theatergoers to purchase their tickets ASAP. I also encourage them to take part in the show and the finale. I guarantee, that no one will regret being a part of the Hair experience.
Call an Applause Sales Expert now at 800-451-9930 and order tickets to this hot show. I'm certain it will be nominated for many Tony's and will win for Best Revival of a Musical. Once that happens, good luck getting tickets! Call Now!

"The Norman Conquests" Conquers Broadway as the Critics Rave!

It’s 10 a.m. Do you know where theater fanatics are? Probably gearing up for the marathon -
the three-plays-in-one-day fun fest that is “The Norman Conquests.”

Alan Ayckbourn’s ‘73 trilogy about an incorrigible seducer - Norman, the horny librarian (Stephen Mangan) - just opened to glowing reviews at Broadway’s Circle in the Square. You can see it one play at a time, or immerse yourself in all three on a Saturday or Sunday. And while there are bathroom breaks aplenty, even die-hards pale at the prospect of too much of a good thing. (”The Coast of Utopia,” anyone?) No worries. Here’s how to enjoy nonstop “Norman.”

They knocked ‘em dead at the Old Vic Theatre in London last fall. Now the cast of the first Broadway revival of Alan Ayckbourn’s comedy trilogy The Norman Conquests is ready to charm New York City. The critics raved! Here's all the reviews for your reading pleasure!!

Pictured to the right is Kevin Spacey who is the Artistic director at the Old Vic in London and also producer of this show reading the early review from the NY Times on his Blackberry and I think he likes what he's reading!

"The Norman Conquests":

[ T ] Alan Ayckbourn recalls ordeal of The Norman Conquests by Tim Walker
With his comic trilogy The Norman Conquests opening in New York next week, Alan Ayckbourn recalls its first performance in America, with Richard Benjamin, Paula Prentiss, Estelle Parsons and Carole Shelley. "Let's just say some of the performances were very good and some appalling," he says, none too diplomatically.
[ NYT ] Unrequited Lust, in Triplicate By BEN BRANTLEY
The topping, London-born revival of Alan Ayckbourn's "Norman Conquests" cripples you with laughter that shakes the body and, more subversively, fractures the soul.
[ NY ] Diary of a Marathon By Dan Kois
On seeing uproarious three-part farce The Norman Conquests in one M&M-fueled day.
[ DN ] 'The Norman Conquests' conquers B'way with laughter by Joe Dziemianowicz (*****)
[ NYP ] TRIUMPHANT 'CONQUESTS' By ELISABETH VINCENTELLI (***)
[ AMNY ] Review of The Norman Conquests by Matt Windman (3.5 out of 4 Stars)
[ EW ] Review: The Norman Conquests By Melissa Rose Bernardo (A)
[ BN ] Spacey, 'Norman' Storm Broadway With Killer Comedy: John Simon
[ BR ] A comedic triple play BY ROBERT FELDBERG
Last Saturday, I had an Alan Ayckbourn immersion. And it was one of the most hilarious days and nights I've ever spent in a theater.
[ V ] The Norman ConquestsReview By DAVID ROONEY
Over seven hours of hilarious peaks and contemplative valleys, his 1973 trilogy "The Norman Conquests" delivers more laughs than ought to be legal while steadily expanding our perspective on the needling dissatisfaction beneath the comic chaos of his characters' lives.
[ WSJ ] Laugh and the World Cries With You By TERRY TEACHOUT
I'll be surprised if the 16 remaining marathon performances don't sell out in a matter of days, so get cracking.
Plus "Mary Stuart."
[ JN ] Alan Ayckbourn provides a triple dose of comedy in "The Norman Conquests" By Michael Kuchwara, The Associated Press
There's an astonishing triple-header happening at Circle in the Square, and you are advised to get in on the action quickly.
[ TB ] The Norman ConquestsReview by Matthew Murray
Rare indeed in the theatre - and certainly uncommon in recent Broadway memory - is the guilty-pleasure gut-buster that doesn't also leave you with pangs of remorse the morning after.
[ TIME ] Man of the Moment By Richard Zoglin
The new Norman Conquests is pitch-perfect. Can't anyone in America pick up the tune?
[ BS ] The Norman Conquests - Reviewed by ERIK HAAGENSEN
It's proving to be a stellar year for revivals on the Great White Way, but none packs as much comic punch as the Old Vic Theatre Company's splendid production of Alan Ayckbourn's "The Norman Conquests."
[ TM ] The Norman ConquestsReviewed by: David Finkle
Alan Ayckbourn's rollicking trilogy about marital strife benefits from Matthew Warchus' assured direction and a superb ensemble.
[ HC ] A Long Day's Hilarity With 'Norman Conquests' By MALCOLM JOHNSON
[ R ] "Conquests" a brilliantly staged comic trilogy By Frank Scheck (Hollywood Reporter)
[ CU ] The Norman Conquests: Table Manners, Living Together, Round and Round the Garden
With the terrific British cast and director from the much lauded Old Vic production on board, the triptych is as hilarious and poignant as ever.
[ NY1 ] Review: "The Norman Conquests" By: Roma Torre
His in-the-round production adds yet another notch to a stellar career. In this triumphant "Norman Conquests", everyone wins.
[ TE ] The Norman Conquests Conquers B'way by OSCAR E MOORE

9 To 5 Is A Blast!

This week I had the chance to see 9 to 5:The Musical. Like most new musicals I have seen over the years I always walk in with a bit of hesitation, but I was willing to give it a try.Boy am I glad I did. I loved it. From the charming and fun score by Dolly Parton to the wonderful performances by Megan Hilty, Stephanie Block, and Allison Janney, I would give this show two thumbs up. Now I know there will be some out there who think the show is dated or just a bunch of fluff. That fact is the show knows what it is and if you go in knowing that you will have a great time. Will it change your life? No. Will it entertain you? You bet. With the economy and the country in the state it is now don't we need a show like this that will make you smile and feel good? I think so. So check out 9 to 5:The Musical. Who knows? You might even like it.

Rave Reviews for "Mary Stuart" on Broadway!!!!

Applause Theatre Service has compiled all of the reviews for "Mary Stuart" for your reading pleasure. The critics went nuts over this production(NY Times raved). If you are a theatre lover, this show is a must see! Here goes;

"Mary Stuart":
[ NYT ] Must I Remind Your Majesty, Two's a Crowd?, by Ben Brantley
Janet McTeer and Harriet Walter star in the terrifically exciting new production of Friedrich Schiller's Mary Stuart.
[ NYP ] Queens For Any Day, by Elisabeth Vincentelli
A London import as gripping as it is elegant, Mary Stuart is packed with political machinations, mind games and rhetorical bouts about justice and power. Think of it as Frost/Nixon with women, beheadings, and ruffs.
[ DN ] A family battle royal in Mary Stuart, by Joe Dziemianowicz
What to do about that pesky cousin? Behead her? Have her killed? Let her rot in jail? Those questions face Elizabeth I in Mary Stuart, now on Broadway in a bold revival from London's Donmar Warehouse. Friedrich Schiller's drama, adapted by Peter Oswald, depicts shifting loyalties by all the queens' men, but this slice of history is all about the leading ladies.
[ ND ] Mary Stuart a riveting showcase, by Linda Winer
Mary Stuart, which opened last night in a production from London's Donmar Warehouse, is a riveting showcase for Janet McTeer and Harriet Walter—two towering actresses in a monumentally entertaining regina smackdown.
[ V ] Reviewed by David Rooney
Politics and power, in any age, are a dirty business. If the first Broadway transfer from the Donmar Warehouse, Frost/Nixon, was a keen reminder of that point, the London company's second transatlantic traveler, Mary Stuart, imparts the lesson even more trenchantly. The setting is late 16th-century England, and the writing dates back to 1800, but the spin, chicanery and ruthless self-preservation of a government that both abides by and manipulates public perception are timeless. Phyllida Lloyd's steely revival of the Friedrich Schiller play simmers and scalds as it should, but it's the deft balance of the parallel tragedies of two imprisoned queens that makes the production so enthralling.
[ BS ] Off With Her Head! As Queens Collide in Mary Stuart
Two of England's premier actresses, Janet McTeer and Harriet Walter, have returned Friedrich Schiller's Mary Stuart to Broadway after a 40-year absence.
[ BS ] Reviewed by David Sheward
Though the first few rounds are a trifle sluggish, the Donmar Warehouse production of Friedrich Schiller's Mary Stuart builds into a thrilling bout between battling royalty.
[ CU ] Reviewed by Elyse Sommer
Broadway audiences rejoice. Janet McTeer, who won the Tony for her last Broadway appearance eleven years ago as a highly original Nora in Ibsen's A Doll's House, is back on Broadway and you couldn't ask for a more regal and steadfast Queen of Scots.
[ ATW ] Political Maneuvering, Human Frailties Deftly Delivered, by Andy Propst
Phyllida Lloyd's riveting staging of Schiller's Mary Stuart, which opened on Broadway last night, proves that a 200-year old play about events from the mid-sixteenth century can be a timely piece of political theater.
[ TM ] Queen-Sized! By: Joseph Marzullo; Text by Brian Scott Lipton
Christine Baranski, Matthew Broderick, Ralph Fiennes, Carla Gugino, Jeremy Irons, Laura Linney, Liam Neeson, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kevin Spacey join Janet McTeer, Harriet Walter and company for the Broadway opening of Mary Stuart.
[ MIRROR ] Liam Neeson makes first public appearance since wife Natasha Richardson's death By Beth Hardie
[ B ] Q&A : Janet McTeer
[ NYT ] Audio Slide Show: A Queen's Rain
A backstage look at the mechanics of the simulated storm in "Mary Stuart."
[ ND ] 'Mary Stuart' a riveting showcase BY LINDA WINER
Just when you think you're catching up with this speedway of a Broadway spring season, along comes a real stunner to move the finish line again. How thrilling.
[ YN ] McTeer and Walter dazzle in a royal 'Mary Stuart' By MICHAEL KUCHWARA, AP Drama Critic
The suspense is palpable despite the fact we know how the play will end. Credit director Phyllida Lloyd and adapter Peter Oswald, who have created a taut tale of political intrigue, a bruising contest in which the prize is England itself.
[ TM ] Mary Stuart Reviewed by: David Finkle
Janet McTeer and Harriet Walter give bravura performances in this excellent production of Friedrich Schiller's historical drama.
[ THR ] Review: Mary Stuart By Frank Scheck
Friedrich von Schiller's 200-year-old historical drama comes to blazing theatrical life.
[ BR ] Suit and tie add modern touch to memorable power struggle BY ROBERT FELDBERG
The revival of Friedrich Schiller's 1800 play "Mary Stuart," which opened Sunday at the Broadhurst Theatre, is vibrant, audacious and, as the plots are hatched that will send Mary to the gallows, improbably funny.
[ TB ] Mary Stuart Review by Matthew Murray
Janet McTeer and Harriet Walter, who respectively play Mary and Elizabeth, are the fiery centerpieces of this searing production, which uses Peter Oswald's new version of Friedrich Schiller's go-for-broke 1800 script and has been directed by Phyllida Lloyd.
[ EW ] Review: Mary Stuart by Aubry D'Arminio (B+)
[ AMNY ] Review of Mary Stuart by Matt Windman (2.5 out of 4 Stars)

What Shows Will Take Home A Tony This Year?

That's right theatre fans. This years Tony Awards is just around the corner. The question is what show will win the big prize? Right now there are twenty-two new plays and musicals currently running on Broadway that have opened during the 2008-2009 Broadway season. Now of those twenty-two shows ten are revivals.

Here are the current revivals. First up. The plays.

Accent On Youth

Haven't seen it yet but you know with David Hyde Pierce as the star there are sure to be plenty of laughs.

Blithe Spirit

Everyone in my office loved the show. Plus this could be the last time that we may see the great Angela Lansbury on the boards again.

Desire Under The Elms

Seeing it next week. Out of all the times that Brian Dennehey has appeared on Broadway in the last ten years this will be my first time seeing him. I can't wait.

Joe Turner's Come and Gone

Haven't seen it yet but I have been a fan of August Wilson's work for years.

The Norman

Conquests

I'll admit British comedy is not really my thing but I am willing to give it a try.

The Philanthropist

Matthew Broderick as a stuffy British professer. It's not Ferris Bueller.

Waiting for Godot
Has a great cast. I couldn't care less.

The Musicals

Guys and Dolls
I don't care what the reviews say. I had a great time.

Hair
Wasn't sure what to expect. I loved it. So did the critics.

West Side Story
Loved Karen Olivo.

The musical revival is a lot easy to figure out since there are four slots available with the recently closed Pal Joey taking the final slot. The plays are a different story. You can't count out Equus or All My Sons. Well that's where we stand with the revivals. Next week: The race for Best Play and Musical.

Until next time theatre lovers!

Rave Reviews for "Next to Normal" !!

A rave review from the Times is absolutely necessary to the success of a show (especially a musical) with a difficult subject matter as is the case with "Next to Normal". And even then, as it didn't have with SIDE SHOW, it requires strong word of mouth from people willing to tell their friends "despite the difficulty you might have with the subject matter, you MUST see this show!" Without that it will not succeed. Ultimately that's probably what did in GREY GARDENS too. People just didn't want to see a musical about two old recluses, no matter whose cousins they were. Can anyone hear, and the Tony Award for Best Musical is..., I loved this show!!

I put together all the reviews for your reading pleasure;

"Next to Normal":
[ YN ] 'Next to Normal' takes an unusual journey to B'way By MICHAEL KUCHWARA, AP Drama Writer
[ NYT ] Audio Slide Show: There's a World
Aaron Tveit talks about performing in the musical "Next to Normal."
[ NYT ] Fragmented Psyches, Uncomfortable Emotions: Sing Out! By BEN BRANTLEY
No show on Broadway right now makes as direct a grab for the heart - or wrings it as thoroughly - as does this brave, breathtaking musical.
[ AMNY ] Review of Next to Normal by Matt Windman (4 out of 4 Stars)
[ DN ] 'Next to Normal' is way beyond ordinary by Joe Dziemianowicz (**** 1/2)
[ EW ] Review: Next to Normal By Melissa Rose Bernardo (A)
[ TM ] Next to NormalReviewed by: Dan Bacalzo
Alice Ripley delivers a luminous performance in this deeply felt musical about a woman suffering from mental illness and its effects on her family.
[ WP ] Powerfully Transformed 'Next' Rocks Broadway By Peter Marks
Plus "Hair."
[ YN ] Mental illness shatters family in Broadway musical 'Next to Normal' By Michael Kuchwara, The Associated Press
That newfound clarity has ratcheted up the show's effectiveness, making "Next to Normal" one of the most adventurous and satisfying musicals of the season.
[ CT ] A heartbreaking 'Normal' By Chris Jones
Stone made his money on "Wicked." In the artistic universe, this is how you are supposed to spend it.
[ BR ] A musical not average nor ordinary BY ROBERT FELDBERG
The show has been significantly improved from the already distinctive version that was presented off-Broadway a year ago. If not for a frustrating cast change, it would be firing on every cylinder.
[ V ] Next to NormalReview By DAVID ROONEY
While its weaknesses have not been entirely erased, they are outweighed by the intimate musical's ambition, sincerity and heightened emotional involvement.
[ ND ] REVIEW: 'Next to Normal'BY LINDA WINER
While winning awards at Washington's Arena Stage, the show has sorted out some - but not enough - of its more obvious multiple-personality disorders.
[ BN ] Crazy Mom, Needy Kid Wipe Smile Off 'Normal' Broadway: Review by Jeremy Gerard
The result is a better show, though still one that's easier to admire than love.
[ TB ] Next to NormalReview by Matthew Murray
There's so much natural affection, spoken, screamed, and sung, that this should be the most affecting musical to hit Broadway in a decade. But like Diana, the overdrugged Goodman matriarch, you're left feeling nothing.
[ BS ] Next to Normal - Reviewed by ERIK HAAGENSEN
As Broadway becomes increasingly hostile to the presence of serious musicals, one roots even harder for those that make it there to succeed. "Next to Normal," alas, still misses the mark.

Tonight, Tonight, See West Side Story on Broadway

My favorite movie growing up was West Side Story. Every time it would come on I would plop myself in front of the Television (black & White) and watch and sing along. I think I knew every word back then. Well my favorite movie is now on Broadway at the Palace Theatre playing to sold out audiences nightly and I couldn't be happier. West Side Story is a modern version of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. It takes place in New York City and tells of the clash over ethnic loyalty and and intense love for one another between Maria who is involved with the Puerto Rican Sharks against Tony who is involved with the Anglo Jets (both street gangs). With a classic score by Leonard Bernstien and Stephen Sondheim and directed by Arthur Larents this remake of West Side Story is sure to be a hit and a show you do not want to miss. For the best Seats at the Best Prices Call Applause.

In the market for Broadway Theater Tickets? Don't pay more than you have to...read on please

I cannot believe the ridiculously high prices that I see when I search for Broadway Show tickets on line, can you?

I've got a little secret for you current and future Broadway Show ticket buyers out there. The next time you are in the market for a ticket to one of Broadway's most popular shows like Wicked, Jersey Boys, Billy Elliot, South Pacific, West Side Story or Hair, or for that matter, just about every Broadway show playing in New York City right now-I need you to do yourself a favor please. Simply go on line and search for the Broadway Show or shows of your interest and shop for prices and seat locations. Then simply try to comparison shop from one company to the next. It's like buying a mattress, impossible to figure it all out I'm afraid.

I am actually one of the "old-time" legitimately New York State licensed theater ticket agents and officially represent every Broadway Show in town. Well dear theater friends, let me tell you that in all my 31 plus years of experience in Broadway ticket sales, I finally figured out why the public still doesn't know how to obtain the "best seats, best shows and best prices when making a theater ticket purchase. It's simple really, its all about confusion. You know the listing of seat numbers, fancy seating charts and often fictitious descriptions of where the seats are actually located.

There must be nearly a thousand companies listed on line (of course several of them simply have one site that they duplicate and triplicate and clone and re-clone and simply use different names. When I, myself do a search on line for theater tickets for Broadway Shows, almost all the sites have the same seats with similar pricing. Strange isn't it?

Here's the problem with buying tickets and while we are at it, maybe I can offer a solution as well. A simple call to a local Broadway expert like Applause Theater Service in New York City is all you need to get answers to your questions. No pressure to buy anything, no need to sign up for anything, just great "old-fashioned" personal service.

At Applause you will speak directly with a local New York City theater expert, someone who is licensed by the New York State Department of Licensing and who knows about all the shows and seating layouts. Someone who cares about the Broadway theater and their customers.

Just to show you that this blog post is trustworthy, maybe you want to "shop around" first. That's right, we're so confident that our service, seating and prices are first rate, that maybe you should do your homework, meaning call others in the business then kindly give us the opportunity to provide Applause's exceptional service.

If you can get "better seats at better prices" from any other legitimately licensed New York State ticket agency, I promise you as one of the founding partners of Applause nearly 22 years ago, that I will either match the price you were offered or send you a brand new crisp $10.00 bill for your trouble if we cannot. That's how confident I am in what Applause does for the theater-going public. More importantly, we will most likely have ticket prices for many shows that easily beat out others in the business. It's just the way we buy our seats really, kind of a secret but we pass on savings we get to you.

So remember please, I am guaranteeing you the best seats for the best shows at the best prices (or I'll match the price). Applause Theater Service will provide the best service, that we are 100 % sure of. If you think others can do better for you, we only ask you that you "show us how".

Here's a current and up-to-date Broadway Show listing. You are welcome to shop around. Remember Applause has a New York State license so any other comparison shopping price quote has to come from a New York State licensed ticket agency like ours please. So if another ticket agency can "beat our seats and pricing", we will either match the price or send you a $10.00 bill in the mail. I'll do it myself, I promise.

I am considered to be a modest person (although "chatty" I'm told). Of course we'd love for you to buy your tickets from Applause but we respect your right to "shop around".

One last thing theater lovers, I did guarantee that we "think we have the best Broadway ticket agency around". With this in mind, please let me leave you now with a "little New York City Insider's" tip. Checkout Restaurant Row, a great place with 16 restaurants all on one long New York City block (46th Street between Broadway and 8th Avenues). Sure to please even the most discriminating palate, I suggest you take my advice and have a look at their web site when you have a minute. The Applause family often dines out at many of these theater district restaurants before we, ourselves take in a Broadway Show.

We love the Broadway Theater and our jobs, really we do. We enjoy the folks that call us each and every day, whether they make a purchase or not. We're simply trying to bring what we think is the "right Broadway experience" to the theater-going public, that's all. If you simply give us the opportunity to help you find the right show at the right price and get you in the right seats of course, we know you'll be glad you called on Applause for sure.

I welcome the opportunity to hear from you and take care of your Broadway Show ticket needs personally if you'll allow me to. My colleagues Todd, Jay, Erik, Claudia, Carol, William and Billy look forward to hearing from you as well. We can be reached seven days a week at 212-307-7050 in our office in New York City or toll free at 800-451-9930 from 9am till 8pm most days.

Enjoy the Broadway Theater. For my money, there;s nothing like it folks.

Take care,
Rich Gladstone

Having recently started preview performances on Broadway at New York's Circle in the Square Theater, I am looking forward to seeing The Norman Conquests, one of the most unique comedies ever to play on Broadway. In fact, I guess you could say The Norman Conquests is 3 very funny comedies.
The Norman Conquests was written by Alan Ayckbourn, one of the most famous writers to come from England. Mr. Ayckbourn has written 71 plays which have been performed in London's West End, The National Theater and The Royal Shakespeare Company as well. The Norman Conquests is a comic "trilogy" of plays that has arrived on Broadway from a sold-out run in London. Each of the 3 plays can be seen separately and you can see them all together on "trilogy days", which are usually on Saturday's and some Sunday's. How cool would that be?

The Norman Conquests are 3 full plays called Table Manners (which takes place in the dining room), Living Together (which takes place in the living room) and Round and Round The Garden (which takes place in the garden). All the action takes place in an English country house as we witness the often wacky antics of 6 spouses and their in-laws during one weekend in time.

The Norman Conquests official opening night is Thursday April 23, 2009 and I am really pulling for Mr. Ayckbourn's plays to receive similar accolades that his works have in England. Right now, the Broadway ticket experts at Applause Theater Service, a long-time local Broadway ticket agency has access to discount tickets for The Norman Conquests through May 30, 2009. They can secure great seats for you at prices that are "below the regular face value" list price for the show. Applause has been providing tickets along with a high level of personal service for 21 years now. They are a New York State licensed ticket agency that represents The Norman Conquests as well as every Broadway Show in New York City.

Applause has an awesome web site and if you like reading about Broadway Theater, you might consider taking a few minutes to check out their extremely popular Broadway Ticket News blog. There's never pressure to buy tickets at Applause. These friendly theater folks just want to keep bringing interesting articles regarding Broadway theater as well as the ability to secure seating for the theater-going public.

If you think The Norman Conquests is a show you would want to see, you can reach Applause today by calling them in New York at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930. If your interest is in learning about other Broadway Shows, you may want to check out our up-to-date Broadway Show listing.

Geoffrey Rush Gives the Performance of a Lifetime in "Exit the King" on Broadway!

One of the best plays that I've seen in my many years here at Applause, "Exit the King", is this years absolute must see! Geoffrey Rush gives the best performance that I've ever witnessed on a Broadway stage. As King Berenger, the Australian icon and Oscar winner (”Shine”) Geoffrey Rush gives a performance of his, yours and my lifetime. He is not only funny and theatrical to the bursting point - his king is intellectually daring and, ultimately, humanely sad.

Academy Award-winning actors Geoffrey Rush and Susan Sarandon come to Broadway in this potently funny play about man's eternal struggle against irrelevance. King Berenger is getting old - 400 years old, to be exact - and his health is failing. His country is failing (his empire is down to six people). His marriage is failing (his first marriage already failed). But his pride is very much intact, and despite being told his time is up, the ancient ruler refuses to get off the stage without a fight. Don't miss this magnificent theatrical event that joins two of the finest actors of our time with one of the classic comic plays of all time.

You also have the extremely funny Andrea Martin(SCTV) and the lovely Laren Ambrose(Six Feet Under) co-starring with both giving wonderful performances. This is a strictly limited engagement now playing at the Ethel Barrymore theatre only through June 14th.

The production as directed by Neil Armfield is glorious. Susan Sarandon as Queen Marguerite takes a minute to get one’s attention (not her fault) and when she does, she is brilliant. The surprise is Lauren Ambrose as Queen Marie. (Yes, this king deserves two queens!) Remembered for her “Six Feet Under” role, Lauren is quite deliciously insane. These special women stand up to Rush’s unrelenting, inspiring and abnormal performance.

It's a production of such perfection and absurdity that the audience is in fear of falling out of their seats from hysterical laughing. (In a Shubert Theater where the seats are small, that’s not easy.)

Right now there are some really good Insider Deals available for this show to help you save $$ and get you the best seats. Call an Applause Sales Expert now and ask for the "Deal". Applause is a New York State licensed official ticket agency for "Exit the King" and all Broadway Shows!

Mary Stuart's Opening Night on Broadway is set for April 19, 2009-Get Discount Tickets Now

If you like good dramas on Broadway, you may want to consider obtaining tickets to Mary Stuart, a new play that tells the very interesting story of the Queen of England (Elizabeth I) and her rival and cousin (Mary Queen of Scots) and the struggle for power over England and its kingdom. The play will describe the bitter rivalry between the two women and their families as well as their tremendous lust for power, greed and deception as they stop at nothing to get to rule their country.

Right now you can contact Applause Theater Service, a local New York State licensed ticket agency and ask for discount tickets for Mary Stuart. They can secure great seats at prices that are below the regular face value usually printed on the ticket. Just contact Applause locally in New York's theater district at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930 seven days a week. The special discount is valid through May 3, 2009 but my guess is that it will probably be extended for another month as well. Usually the non-musicals tend to offer more discounted tickets then their usually more popular musical selling Broadway Shows.

If you think Mary Stuart might be a good show for you, simply go to the Applause web site and check out their new home page video or give them a call. They love to talk about Broadway Shows.

Take care and enjoy Mary Stuart or other Broadway Shows you may attend.

Sincerely,
Rich Gladstone

Call Applause Theatre Service To Get Your Tickets To See Jersey Boy's On Broadway

One of the biggest hits of the past decade has to be Jersey Boys. When the show was first announced in the Spring of 2005 no one thought it would last. After all these so called "Jukebox Musicals" haven't been all that successful over the years. Mamma Mia being the exception. Imagine everyone's surprise when Jersey Boys turned out to be not only a huge hit but actually quite good. To be honest I really had no desire to see the show when it first opened. In fact I waited until almost 2 years after it opened to first see it. Well all I can say is,"It was worth the wait". What an amazing night in the theatre. From the first moment I was hooked. When most people hear that names Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons they of course think about all the great music that they shared with the world. But they are so much more than a few catchy tunes. The struggles that these four men had to go through to make it to the top was unbelievable. Being a songwriter myself I know how hard it can be try and make it. Although if I had to endure some of the things they went through I don't know if I would have had the guts to keep going. Jersey Boys is a feel good musical that will inspire you and make you smile from ear to ear. "Oh what a night!"

Joe Turner's Come and Gone Opens on Broadway April 16, 2009-Get Discount Tickets Now

This blog is a short post to offer discount tickets (with excellent seating of course) to the revival of Joe Turner's Come and Gone. This play takes place in a boarding house in Pittsburgh in 1911. A man by the name of Harold Loomis gets released from prison and has been working on Joe Turner's chain gang for over 7 years. He then sets out to search for his wife Martha as well as find a place to live with his 11 year old daughter Zonia. Joe Turner's Come and Gone tells a story that speaks of several issues that involve slavery, religion and spirituality and the history of the roots of African Americans.

Right now you can obtain great tickets at below the regular face value for Joe Turner's Come and Gone at the Belasco Theater in New York City. The special discount offer is good through April 26, 2009, prior to its Broadway opening on April 16, 2009.

If you think you might want to secure excellent seats to Joe Turner's Come and Gone right now, you can place a call to Applause Theater Service, a New York State licensed ticket agency for the show and every Broadway Show in New York City. My guess is that the show will garner good reviews but that they will extend the discount offer for at least a month or so. There are no guarantees but in general, plays in New York don't sell nearly as well as musicals. So if you like good deals on Broadway tickets, give Applause a ring today.

Applause Theater Service is made up of a friendly group of local Broadway ticket experts. They operate a small but very high level of personal service and always offer the best seats, shows and prices in the ticket industry.

You can have a look at their HOME PAGE WELCOME VIDEO on their web site now. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Next to Normal on Broadway- Opening Night is April 15, 2009

The last time I can remember that something powerful Off Broadway became a "hit" on Broadway was when RENT opened on Broadway on April 29, 1986. I am keeping my fingers crossed as I think it is possible for Next to Normal, a new musical drama in previews right now at New York's Booth theater-to possibly win some Tony Awards this June, maybe even for Best Musical. One never knows who will win those coveted awards in the sealed envelopes do we?

In any case, Next to Normal arrives on Broadway from sold-out runs at New York's Second Stage Theater and DC's Arena Stage with everyone in the business excited about the April 15, 2009 opening night. David Stone, producer of Wicked and Michael Grief, the former director of Rent, are handling similar responsibilities for Next to Normal.

Next to Normal has a look into how one suburban family copes with mental illness. The show does a very good job of showing the emotion that a mom, dad and their two children go through during various crises that come up over the years.

The show has a wonderful contemporary score filled with over 30 songs with excellent performances from cast members J. Robert Spencer, Alice Ripley, Aaron Tveit, Jennifer Damiano, Adam Chanler-Berat and Louis Hobson. The shows length is 2 hours and 20 minutes and includes a 15 minute intermission.

Prior to the Next to Normal April 15, 2009 opening night, we would like to remind our Applause Theater Service Broadway Ticket News blog readers that we can obtain discounted tickets of admission for you for Next to Normal before it opens. Even though it opens in a few days, there are discounted seats available through April 23, 2009. Depending upon critic's reviews of Next to Normal, the discounts will probably be extended through May of 2009 or possibly discontinued.
If you think Next to Normal might be a show you would possibly want to see, you might consider making a call to Applause Theater Service in New York City to obtain great seats at excellent prices. Applause is a fully licensed New York State ticket agency that sells discounted, regular and premium price tickets to Next to Normal and every Broadway Show playing year round. They have a high level of service and know what it takes to secure the best seats at the best prices for their customers.

Personally I really enjoyed this show very much. I've seen a lot of shows and Next to Normal looks like a real "winner" to me. The subject may not be a light one but we all know there are real problems amongst all of our families as we go through life. The cast and creators of Next to Normal do a fantastic job of making us think twice about how very lucky we all are, just to be alive every day. I highly recommend all theater-goers buy tickets to Next to Normal. You'll be glad you did.

Until next time, at the theater.

Rich Gladstone

Disney To Shake Up Schedule This Fall

That's right all you Disney fans. Today it was announced that all three Disney shows on Broadway(The Lion King, Mary Poppins,The Little Mermaid) will be switching to a new schedule beginning on September 7, 2009. Now this it not unusual as they frequently adjust their schedules to coincide with the new school year. Disney has been a force to be reckoned with on Broadway since it opened it's first show Beauty and the Beast back in April 1994 and has never looked back. Now while I am not the biggest Disney fan in the world I understand their importance to the Great White Way. If not for them most kids would never have had their first Broadway experience. My co-worker Carol who has an eight your old daughter told me that seeing the joy on her child's face as she watches a Broadway show gives her as much pleasure as the show itself. Isn't that what the theatre is all about after all? Making people happy. Live theatre. There is nothing like it.

The Lion King will perform 7:00pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. 8:00pm on Thursdays and Fridays; 2:00pm and 8:00pm on Saturdays; 1:00pm and 6:30pm on Sundays.

Mary Poppins will perform 7:00pm on Mondays and Wednesdays; 8:00pm on Thursdays and Fridays; 2:00pm and 8:00pm on Saturdays; 1:00pm and 6:30pm on Sundays.

The Little Mermaid will perform 7:00pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays; 2:00pm on Wednesdays; 2:00pm and 8:00pm on Saturdays; 1:00pm & 6:30pm on Sundays.

How to get tickets for Broadway's 5 Sellout Shows

Most of the Broadway Shows playing these days are very successful. Still it takes an extremely popular Broadway Show to "sellout" every performance. The 5 most popular, "hard to get" tickets are for the following Broadway Shows. They are:

Billy Elliot

Jersey Boys

The Lion King

West Side Story

Wicked

If you give a call to Applause Theater Service, a New York State licensed ticket agency for every Broadway Show playing now, simply ask how to go about obtaining good tickets at reasonable prices for these productions.

There are several seating options. You can sit in the premium orchestra section (the prices are substantially higher) but you get to sit front and center. You can obtain a best available orchestra seat (generally around $150-160.00 through a ticket service) and then you can pay considerably less for mid to rear mezzanine seating. Remember that New York theaters on Broadway are not large so even though the word "mezzanine or rear mezzanine" might not sound great, in my opinion, there are really no bad seats in just about every theater in New York City.

If you think you may want to see one of these top 5 Broadway Shows, simply consider calling Applause Theater Service. Applause is a local ticket agency. Licensed by the Department of Licensing for New York State, the Applause staff provides tickets to all the shows playing on Broadway.

They can be reached at 212-307-7050 in New York City or toll free at 800-451-9930 seven days a week, all year round. We look forward to speaking with you when your plans include seeing a Broadway Show.

Phantom of the Opera Tickets on Broadway- at a Discount

Why pay more for Phantom of the Opera tickets on Broadway than you have to? The short answer is that now you have a reliable place to contact when you want amazing seats for this 1988 Tony Award-winning Best Musical. The Phantom of the Opera plays all over the world now and is now the longest running show in the history of Broadway.

The Phantom of the Opera was written by Richard Stilgoe and Andrew Lloyd Webber. The music is by Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Charles Hart and Richard Stilgoe. Direction of this blockbuster musical is by the incomparable Hal Prince. The current stars in the Broadway production are Howard McGillin, Marni Rabb and Tim Martin Gleason. The supporting cast is phenomenal indeed.

The Phantom of the Opera is a timeless story of seduction and obsession when the beautiful soprano of the Paris Opera House becomes the focus of a deranged, mysterious and disfigured musical genius. I really have enjoyed this show each time I have had the opportunity over the years, with different cast members in the lead roles changing over time.

Right now if you contact Applause Theater Service, a locally New York State licensed and friendly Broadway ticket agency representing The Phantom of the Opera and all the other Broadway Shows as well-you can sit in the best orchestra section seating at prices that are below the "regular face value" of the ticket. We eat out at all these restaurants ourselves before we go to the theater. If you want to talk about dining options, give us a call-we love to eat and go see all the Broadway shows all the time.

Buy tickets for Broadway's Blithe Spirit- at discount prices

For those of you Angela Lansbury fans that might want to see one of the theater's greatest legendary performers, now is your chance to see Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit at the Shubert Theater in New York City. Ms. Lansbury and her co-stars-Rupert Everett, Christine Ebersole and Jayne Atkinson are very funny in this show that tells the tale of a very successful novelist that seems to be "haunted" by his biggest fan-his deceased first wife. You can only imagine how this revelation will make his current wife feel. I saw Blithe Spirit and really enjoyed the performances of the entire cast. The show really has lots of funny material.

For a limited time only the folks at Applause Theater Service in New York City can get you great seats to Blithe Spirit at tickets below the regular "face value". Why is this? Applause has been a New York State licensed ticket agency for over 21 years now. They have insider access to premium seating as well as "discount" tickets for Blithe Spirit as well as over 20 other Broadway Shows.

There is no pressure to buy anything at Applause, just good "old-fashioned, friendly service from local ticket experts. If you think you might want to see Blithe Spirit, you can call Applause at their local phone 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930, seven days a week. They love to talk about Broadway theater.

If you need some great restaurant suggestions, feel free to ask for a few when you contact Applause. You are welcome to check out the Restaurant Row web site here as many of the places we eat at before the theater are listed on this site. Call me if you'd like a personal recommendation or two. How to obtain West Side Story tickets on Broadway-at Reasonable Prices too

Every time you hear people talking about buying tickets for Broadway Shows, it seems that people say that prices are ridiculously high today. This is especially true for sold out shows like West Side Story, now playing to raving audiences since its opening night reviews several weeks ago.

I loved West Side Story. You may remember this 50 plus year old show being one of the Broadway theater productions that led to innovative changes in a shows subject matter and choreography. Mr. Arthur Laurents, who originally wrote the book for West Side Story has returned as this revival's director as well. His original book still holds up well considering all the time that has passed. And the cast featuring Matt Cavanaugh, Karen Olivo and newcomer Josefina Scaglione as well as the entire supporting ensemble does a superb job at taking you back in time to this "Romeo and Juliet" love story.

Featured songs include "Tonight", "Somewhere", "America" and "I Feel Pretty". Three of the songs were translated into Spanish which seems very real and natural to those of us growing up in New York City. Some of the dialogue is in Spanish as well but not enough to be concerned that it wouldn't feel right to you sitting in the audience. Lin-Manuel Miranda the wonderful writer of the music and lyrics for In The Heights, another awesome Broadway Show currently playing on Broadway was the person who translated the songs into Spanish for this production of West Side Story. What a talent my friends.

Jerome Robbins choreography is some of the finest ever to appear on a Broadway stage. Mr. Robbins amazing choreography has been beautifully re-staged by Joey McKneely. You will enjoy watching this production of West Side Story.

Now getting back to the title of this blog- "How to obtain West Side Story tickets-at reasonable prices". It's simple really.

If you think this show might be something you want to see, you can make a simple call to Applause Theater Service, a local Broadway ticket expert that has been providing tickets to every show on Broadway for 21 years now. Applause is a New York State licensed ticket agency that offers an extremely personalized level of customer service as well as "reasonable prices for West Side Story and all Broadway theater.

Why pay high prices when you can talk to local experts, tap into their extensive inventory of West Side Story tickets, pay a reasonable service fee and get the tickets delivered right to your door. Could you ask for anything more?

Applause is open 7 days a week. These guys love talking about Broadway Shows. I almost forgot, they love to eat too so if you need some restaurant suggestions, just ask them where the good places to eat are. They often refer theater-goers to a fun street in the theater district called Restaurant Row. It's located on 46th Street between 8th Avenue and 9th Avenue, right in the heart of the theater district. Here's their web site. I've eaten at over a dozen of these places so call me personally if you need assistance.

Whatever you do, don't pay high prices for West Side Story or a place to eat before the theater. Contact a local company that would like to help you make your trip to Broadway, one to remember for a long time to come.

We hope to hear from you soon.

Rich Gladstone

Orchestra Or Mezzanine:Which Is Better

That's right theater fans. It's time for the Great Debate. Which is the best place to see a show? The Orchestra or the Mezzanine? In the five years that I have been working for Applause I have sold thousands of tickets to all types of shows both On and Off-Broadway. Say what you want but that's a lot of customers. Now we all know that every Broadway theater has both an upstairs and a downstairs. That has been the same for over one hundred years. The question is where do you sit? You could ask 100 people and I can almost guarantee that fifty people will say Orchestra and fifty people will say Mezzanine. Makes sense right? Everybody has their opinion on where is the best place to see a show. That will never change. To be honest sometimes I like sitting in the Orchestra and sometimes I like sitting in the Mezzanine. The truth is some theatres are bigger than others and while that is not always the reason for choosing my seats I guess it can make a difference some of the time. For example. Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre. It is Broadway's biggest theatre 1.809 seats. Sounds big right? But did you know that the Broadway theatre's are smaller than any theatre's in the country? Most people are amazed when I tell them that but it's the truth. Anyway back to Wicked. Having seen the show many times I can honestly say that the Mezzanine is the best play to see the show. That includes both the Front and the Rear. Plus you know that with a show based on the Wizard of Oz there are going to be things and or people flying around so by being upstairs you are really getting a great overall view. Not to say the Orchestra isn't good too. Remember it's just one man's opinion. Truth be told when it comes to the theatres on Broadway almost all the seats are good. Yes there are partial view and obstructed view seats but there is one advantage to those seats at well. A discount. In this day and age a inexpensive ticket is just as good. Like I said."It's just one man's opinion. Until next time theatre fans.

Great Deals for "The 39 Steps"!

One of my favorite plays in the last couple of years, The 39 Steps! Love it, you'll have a blast!
Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have THE 39 STEPS, a fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theatre! This 2-time Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning treat is packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters (played by a ridiculously talented cast of 4), an on-stage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers and some good old-fashioned romance!

In THE 39 STEPS, a man with a boring life meets a woman with a thick accent who says she's a spy. When he takes her home, she is murdered. Soon, a mysterious organization called "The 39 Steps" is hot on the man's trail in a nationwide manhunt that climaxes in a death-defying finale! A riotous blend of virtuoso performances and wildly inventive stagecraft, THE 39 STEPS amounts to an unforgettable evening of pure pleasure!

Want to know how to obtain FRONT CENTER Broadway Theater Tickets-At Amazing Prices too?

It's simple really. The perception about getting "front and center" seats is that they need to cost the public an arm and a leg. Well I know the Broadway Show ticket business fairly well. I've been working in this business for over 31 years now and allot has changed. Let me explain.

A few years back, the producers of a few shows started charging double and triple the price of a regular orchestra seat, but promised a seat in the first 10 rows center of the theater. It sort of made sense when you think about it because the investment when producing a show these days costs millions of dollars. And often times, those millions are lost when a show doesn't sell too well. It also helps to have these higher ticket prices offset the usual discounting that goes on in the ticket business when a show cannot sell out all their tickets. When you add constantly increasing prices every year or two, orchestra seating has gone from $100.00 a seat to over $130.00 for some shows, in just a couple of years. So when a legitimate ticket agency adds a small service charge, the retail prices people pay start getting pretty high indeed.

So one can piece together that the Broadway Shows plan is to sell "high priced", "regular priced" and "low priced" tickets. The low priced tickets are when a show really needs a helping hand and so they offer discounts. This blending of pricing ends up giving many show producers a fairly good "average price". Sort of like most businesses today that simply want to keep running and make a reasonable profit.

So how can you get FRONT and CENTER seats for Broadway Shows at reasonable prices? Here's a little tip for you. You can contact local experts to talk with and simply ask "how do I get choice seats for the show you want to see at the best possible price"? Now friends, if a show is really hard to get like Wicked, Jersey Boys, Hair, South Pacific, West Side Story or Billy Elliot, in general, if you ask for a front center orchestra seat you will be quoted prices upwards of a few hundred dollars a ticket and higher.

If you make a simple call to Applause Theater Service, a local Broadway ticket agency that is licensed by the Department of Licensing for New York State, you can find out how to obtain seats for the show of your choice, and at reasonable prices as well. One of the things that sometimes happens is that some of these so-called "premium" or "front and center" seats that usually do in fact sell for double and triple the usual cost, become available, and at the usual regular price, not the higher price. Make sense? It's simple really, the shows want people to pay a premium (higher price) but at some point they have to settle for accepting the regular (lower price). Otherwise the seat may go unsold. Since the producers ideally want to sell as many seats as possible of course, they understand that they, too, will have to accept a "blended" sort of pricing.

In the end, it reminds me of buying an air line ticket or staying in a hotel but getting a high price on one visit then a low price on another visit (probably because it is their off season).

So my advice to the public that is not only interested in obtaining front and center seats at a reasonable price, but wants to know how to get into Broadway theaters at discount prices as well (sometimes under the regular face value) is simple. Just contact Applause Theater Service in New York City, located right in the heart of the theater district.

At Applause Theater Service, there is never any pressure to buy tickets. Just good old-fashioned advice and exceptional service. If you make the call, you'll know what I mean. They can be reached at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930. Applause is open 7 days a week and love to talk about all the Broadway Shows.

And if you need some expert suggestions of places to dine before the show, we often recommend some of our favorite restaurants on Restaurant Row, located on 46th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues in the theater district. There are 16 unique palate pleasing places to grab a nice meal. We hope you'll have a look at the Restaurant Row web site. And if you want to talk about one of the places, just give Applause a call today.

Have fun planning your next visit to the Broadway theater.

The Philanthropist Starring Matthew Broderick Begins Previews Tonight

Tony Award winner and Broadway favorite Matthew Broderick returns to the Great White Way in a revival of the 1970 comedy The Philanthropist written by Tony and Academy Award winner Christopher Hampton. The show which opens April 26 is being produced by the Roundabout Theater Company and is scheduled to run through June 28 at the American Airlines Theatre.

According to Roundabout, "Written as a response to Molière's The Misanthrope, Hampton's biting bourgeois comedy examines the empty, insular lives of college intellectuals. At the center of the story is Philip (Broderick), a professor who seems almost absurdly removed from the political turmoil surrounding him, including the assassination of the Prime Minister and his cabinet."

Purchase Mary Stuart Tickets on Broadway at Below Face Value

Fresh from an extremely popular run at London's Donmar Warehouse, I am pleased to report that Mary Stuart, Frederich Schiller's political drama regarding the unique relationship between England's Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots (her cousin) and rival to the throne, is in previews at New York's Broadhurst Theater on 44th Street, west of Broadway.

Mary Stuart stars Janet McTeer as Mary Queen of Scots. Ms. McTeer won Tony and Olivier Awards for her portrayal of Nora in Ibsen's classic play A Doll's House and was also nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in Tumbleweeds. Harriet Walter plays the role of Elizabeth I.

Mary Stuart has a running time of 2 hours and 45 minutes. The play will show you a "behind-the scenes" look at the scheming and betrayal that went on at that time in history yet has the feel of what some say is a "modern-day thriller" of a special kind.

Mary Stuart officially opens to critics reviews on April 19, 2009. For a limited time only, the friendly folks working at the Applause Theater Service, a New York State licensed ticket agency, have access to discount tickets for "below the usual face value" through May 3, 2009. If the show opens to positive reviews as many expect, this discount may be discontinued. For now though, if you want to talk about obtaining tickets for Mary Stuart on Broadway you can contact Applause locally at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930. They are open 7 days a week and love to talk with people that are interested in seeing Mary Stuart or any of the exciting theater now playing on Broadway. Here's our up-to-date Broadway Show listing.

Should you need a restaurant suggestion or two, have a look at some of the restaurants we ourselves eat at before the theater. Checkout Restaurant Row's list of 16 wonderful dining suggestions, located right in the theater district.

Mary Poppins Celebrates Milestone

Mary Poppins, the beloved musical which has delighted audiences of all ages, will celebrate it's 1000th performance on Broadway tonight at the New Amsterdam Theatre. Now when you look at shows like Phantom of the Opera who recently celebrated it's 8,771 performance, a 1,000 shows may not seem like a lot. Nowadays most shows are lucky to run one or two years at best. However unlike most shows Mary Poppins has a built in audience that most shows don't have or in some cases will never have. Plus it's great for the whole family. You can't beat that.

Desire Under The Elms with Brian Dennehy Comes to Broadway

I love Brian Dennehy's theater, television and film work. He is one of the most recognizable actors having played in many television movies, large-screen films (Semi-Tough and First Blood) and for his standout performances on Broadway in Long Day's Journey Into Night, Death of a Salesman, and Inherit The Wind. Mr. Dennehy will be starring in Eugene O'Neill's classic drama Desire Under The Elms at the St. James Theater on Broadway beginning with preview performances on April 14, 2009.

Desire Under The Elms was written in 1924. Inspired by a Greek tragedy, Desire Under The Elms tells the story of widower Ephraim Cabot who returns to his family's farm with his young wife Abbie, who then falls in love with Ephraim's son Eben. The consequences that transpire are tragic indeed. In addition to Mr. Dennehy, Desire Under The Elms stars Carla Gugino as his wife and Pablo Schreiber as his son Eben. Ms. Gugino has appeared in the film Son In Law as well as the Spy Kids trilogy, last appearing on Broadway in After The Fall in 2004. Mr. Schreiber is best known for his role as Nick Sobotka on HBO's series The Wire and on Broadway for his Tony-nominated role in Awake and Sing!

Desire Under The Elms should be one of the more popular shows of the season. Still, right now if you place a call to the friendly folks at Applause Theater Service in New York City, you can secure seats for this show at BELOW FACE VALUE. How do we do it? It's simple really. The critic's have not reviewed the show yet and in order to garner interest as well as spread the expected positive "word of mouth" about Desire Under The Elms, we have access to greatly discounted seats.

After the show opens it is possible that the discount tickets may be discontinued but for right now, if you think this might be a good show for you to see, feel free to contact Applause's ticket experts locally in New York at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930. Remember to ask for Desire Under The Elms discount tickets.

If you would like some really great restaurant suggestions, checkout some of the 16 fun places on our Restaurant Row list. Our customers usually ask us our advice for a restaurant or two to eat at before the theater. We hope you will too.

Enjoy Desire Under The Elms or one of the exciting productions on our Broadway Show listing. We hope to hear from you in the near future or whenever your plans include Broadway and New York City.

Get Great Deals on Jane Fonda's "33 Variations" with Applause Theatre Service!

"33 Variations"; How is Jane Fonda's first Broadway performance in 46 years? According to New York's Stephanie Zacharek: "Fonda meets the challenge like a warrior queen. She may be playing an excessively cerebral academic, but the physicality of her performance is what sticks with you. She uses her trim, sturdy frame to suggest the myriad ways in which our bodies — one way or another, either through aging or ill health — can ultimately betray our minds."
See Zacharek's full review here .

Come on guy's, this is probably your last chance to see this acting living legend live and in person doing some of her best acting yet. I mean she ain't no spring chicken but she sure looks fabulous for her age! Everyone in my office loved this show. It's sure to receive many Tony nominations this year. It's a must see!

Broadway Theater and Restaurant Row in New York City-The Perfect Pair

I love the Broadway Theater. I cannot remember a time when I didn't plan a dinner with my friends, family and co-workers before seeing a Broadway Show. Now that I live in New York City, I eat out more than ever and although I don't consider myself a "food expert", I think the Broadway Ticket Man in me likes to suggest places to dine at before the theater.

So here are my 2 suggestions when planning a day or night out at the Broadway theater. First make a call to Applause Theater Service in New York City at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930 and talk to one of the extremely friendly Broadway ticket experts about any of the Broadway Shows they sell tickets for. Here's an up-to-date Broadway Show list. Get yourself some excellent Broadway Show tickets for Wicked, Jersey Boys, South Pacific, Hair, Billy Elliot or one of the 32 current productions playing. Remember to ask for a list of current "discount" tickets we can secure for you as well.

Then you can ask Applause for advice on some restaurant suggestions that happen to include awesome experiences, great food, service and prices. There are many places we go to ourselves to dine throughout the city. But many of our customers enjoy a night or two dining on Restaurant Row, which is a long block in the theater district that includes 16 very nice restaurants. From Italian, Chilean, Steakhouse, Thai, Global-Eclectic, Pub, Tapas, Russian or even Old Style New Orleans cuisine, we know that Restaurant Row in New York City will make your visit to Broadway a special one. I always say "people have to eat somewhere, they might as well take one of our local dining suggestions", right?

Checkout Restaurant Row right now, you'll be glad you did. And remember theater friends, whether you call Applause or someone else for Broadway and dining, we think it makes sense to talk to a "local expert", don't you?

Enjoy the theater and your dining experience. We look forward to your call today.

Two Revivals Begin Previews This Week On Broadway

That's right theatre fans. Two of this season's highly anticipated plays began previews this week on the Great White Way. So what are these plays you ask? Well first up is the new revival of Accent On Youth starring Tony and Emmy winner David Hyde Pierce. For those of you in the know Mr. Pierce has been quite the Broadway favorite over the past few years appearing in the hit musical Spamalot and winning his Tony two years ago for his hilarious performance in Curtains. According to press notes, "Accent On Youth tells the story of playwright Stephen Gaye (Pierce) who is about to abandon his latest script, when his young secretary offers him new inspiration. With her as his muse, he stages the show on Broadway, only to learn, to his dismay, that the shows young leading man is being inspired by her too." Sounds like a winner to me.

Next up is the revival of Alan Ayckbourn's The Norman Conquests. The show which was a critical success in London comprises three full length plays. Table Manners, Living Together and Round and Round the Garden. The plays will be performed on a rotating schedule during the week and can also be seen in one day on "Trilogy Saturdays." If the reviews in London are any indication I expect this production to be a big contender come Tony time.

South Pacific at Lincoln Center-One of New York's Best Shows

In 2008 South Pacific won 7 Tony Awards for Broadway's Best Revival. Our little ticket agency Applause Theater Service, located in New York City, sold a ton of tickets for this show.

Although it is still popular, many theater-goers have seen it. And you know the old saying, "whatever goes up, eventually comes down". All I mean by this is that South Pacific is a tremendously exciting Broadway Show to see, but for a limited time only, you can obtain seats for discount prices as the first year of bigger than usual demand for new shows is over.

South Pacific is one of New York's landmark shows and this version is only the first revival of an over 50 year old show. Maybe this is why it is so special. The original South Pacific won a Pulitzer Prize, played for over five years and won nine Tony Awards. Songs like "Some Enchanted Evening", "Younger Than Springtime" and "Nothing Like A Dame" are some of the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein favorites.

Currently Laura Osnes stars as Ensign Nellie Forbush, taking over the role played by Kelli O'Hara. Ms. O'Hara is having a baby soon and plans on returning to South Pacific in October of 2009. The supporting cast for South Pacific is extremely talented and the creative team features direction by Bartlett Sher, scenic design by Michael Yeargan, costume design by Catherine Zuber, lighting design by Donald Holder and sound design by Scott Lehrer. The talent both on stage and creatively are some of the finest the theater industry has ever seen.

Although South Pacific was a complete sold out show in 2008, right now there are a few weekday performances that Applause Theater Service can get you at a discount off the regular prices. The discount is valid for performances on Tuesday evenings, Wednesday matinee and evenings and some Thursdays, subject to availability. The special prices are valid for many performances now through May 21, 2009. If you need to go on the weekend, not to worry friends. Simply call Applause locally in New York at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930 and they will provide you with great seats and the most reasonable prices as well. South Pacific is one of my most favorite shows. It is just the type of "old fashioned" production that takes me back to the days when I was first introduced to the "magic" of live Broadway entertainment.

Applause Theater Service is a New York State licensed official ticket agency for South Pacific and all Broadway Shows. If you think you might want to learn about other Broadway Shows, you can check out our up-to-date Broadway Show listing.

Applause's staff love to talk about Broadway theater. They are open 7 days a week and look forward to your call. Don't forget to ask for some of our restaurant suggestions. We love to eat out at some fun spots on Restaurant Row.

We look forward to your call. Enjoy South Pacific or the Broadway Show of your choosing.

Rich Gladstone

Talk Live With An Applause Rep Today

Applause Theatre and Entertainment Service Inc. is proud to announce our latest venture into the Internet world. Boldchat. I'll be honest when my boss first told us about this new service I wasn't really sure what to expect. Personally I prefer talking to someone over the phone as opposed to texting or in this case a live chat with a representative. Well I am happy to say that not only do I enjoy it but it makes multi-tasking a lot easier. I can be talking to one customer on the phone and chat with another at the same time. Plus it allows the customers online to ask any question they want without having to pick up a phone. With this new system you can get the info you want and we can take your ticket request and complete it all in the same chat. It doesn't get any better that. Why not give it a try? You might be glad you did. Until next time theater lovers.

How to purchase Discount Tickets to 9 to 5 The Musical now playing on Broadway

A brand new musical called 9 to 5 The Musical has begun preview performances at New York City's Marquis Theater a few days ago. The show is based on the famous movie of the 1980's and tells the funny story of an extremely successful office manager who joins her co-workers when they decide to "turn the tables" on their sexist boss. The three women literally remove their boss from the workplace and keep him "preoccupied" for a while as they express their new found emancipation. While the boss is away, the ladies make some new changes in the workplace such as "flexible working hours and daycare services". Allison Janney (formerly of The West Wing television series) stars in this show-she's one of my all-time favorite actresses ever. I can't wait to see this show.

If you think you might want to see 9 to 5 The Musical, right now through June 14, 2009, Applause Theater Service, a New York State licensed ticket agency can get you terrific seats to the show at prices that are "below face value". So if you want to see a new Broadway Show at special rates before it opens to critics reviews, you can call Applause locally in New York at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930. Remember to ask for the "discount ticket deals".

If you think you may want to see additional Broadway Theater, you can have a look at Applause's up-to-date Broadway Show listing. And if you need some advice on which shows might be best for you, let us hear from you today. We like to talk and know we can be helpful to you, your friends and family whenever your plans include Broadway theater.

It's Official! Critics Rave "Rock of Ages" is a Bonafide Hit on Broadway!

Following an extremely successful off Broadway run and the sale of the film rights to New Line Cinema, ROCK OF AGES opened on Broadway last night, Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 W. 47th Street). In 1987 on the Sunset Strip, a small town girl met a big city rocker and in LA's most famous rock club, they fell in love to the greatest songs of the '80s.
It's ROCK OF AGES, an arena-rock love story told through the mind-blowing, face-melting hits of Journey, Bon Jovi, Styx, Reo Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Foreigner, Twisted Sister, Poison, Asia, Whitesnake and many more. Don't miss this awesomely good time about dreaming big, playing loud and partying on.
The "totally awesome" cast for Broadway's new, smash hit musical stars Constantine Maroulis, ("American Idol" Season 4, Broadway's The Wedding Singer, RENT) reprising his critically acclaimed role as "Drew", is now joined by Broadway's best 1970's & 1980's period actors Amy Spanger (The Wedding Singer, Kiss Me Kate) as "Sherrie" and James Carpinello (Saturday Night Fever, VH1's "So NoTORIous") as "Stacee Jaxx".
Call an Applause Sales Expert today to take advantage of some big savings by mentioning the Applause Insider Deal at 800-451-9930. Applause is a New York State licensed ticket agency for Rock of Ages and all Broadway shows!

I've put together all the reviews from last night's opening for your reading pleasure;

"Rock of Ages" Reviews:

[ NYT ] Slide Show: Big Hair and Denim Dreams
[ NYT ] Big-Hair Rockers Return in a New Arena: Broadway By CHARLES ISHERWOOD
"Rock of Ages" is a seriously silly, absurdly enjoyable arena-rock musical.
[ TM ] Rock of AgesReviewed by: Patrick Lee
This jukebox material using the hairband songs of the 1980s is deliriously entertaining.
[ DN ] 'Rock of Ages' delivers '80s sprinkled with cheese by Joe Dziemianowicz (*** 1/2)
[ AMNY ] Review of Rock of Ages by Matt Windman (3 out of 4 Stars)
[ TB ] Rock of Ages Review by Matthew Murray
Rock of Ages isn't trying to be theatre the way Mamma Mia! and Jersey Boys are. It's just trying to be a good time.
[ NY1 ] Review: "Rock Of Ages" By: Roma Torre
"Rock of Ages" is not for everyone, but I bet a lot of people who wouldn't expect to like this goofy musical will be smitten. Count me in that group.
[ V ] Rock of Ages Review By DAVID ROONEY
It's safe to say nostalgists won't feel cheated by "Rock of Ages," and that it won't be stealing audiences from "South Pacific." But by the time the ensemble unites on Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'," even nonbelievers may start inhaling the Aqua Net and embracing their inner rocker.
[ R ] "Rock" gives '80s hair-band songs their day By Frank Scheck (Hollywood Reporter)
This cheesy exercise in rock nostalgia has already been a hit in Los Angeles and Off Broadway, and this transfer to the rialto should prove an equally critic-proof success.
[ NYP ] HIT PARADE'S NOT ROCK-SOLID By ELISABETH VINCENTELLI (** 1/2)
[ AP ] 'Rock of Ages' tours the music of the '80s By PETER SANTILLI
"Rock of Ages" should satisfy nostalgists with a penchant for '80s kitsch, but its lack of depth makes it unlikely to impress a wider audience.

Great Deals on Phylicia Rashad in "August: Osage County"

I have some mixed feelings about this move for one of my favorite plays currently on Broadway, August:Osage County. First off, race aside, Phylicia Rashad is the wrong actress to play Violet. This is a terrible move by the producers(I think). Phylicia Rashad is a wonderful actress, but her presence in this fairly realistic play will raise a boatload of questions the play doesn't need. Is the character of Violet now supposed to really be African-American? And if so, won't the idea of an interracial couple getting together in Oklahoma all those decades ago hover over the play like an unwanted ghost, raising questions the plays not equipped to handle? This casting decision makes no more sense than having Vanessa Redgrave take over Rashad's role in "Raisin in the Sun." An all-black cast of "August:Osage" would be one thing (and might be very interesting, come to think of it), but this casting decision just seems like a stunt. I hope "Osage" doesn't become the "Chicago" of straight plays, where every celebrity (and near-celebrity) with time on their hands wanders through just long enough to put a Broadway credit in their bio.
But I won't know until I see her myself starting May 26th.

The Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning hit about a dysfunctional family in crisis.
Meet the Westons. Dad’s disappeared. Mom’s popping pills. One daughter’s bound for divorce. And that's just the start. Equally harrowing and hysterical, Tracy Letts’ award-winning drama has already been hailed as an American classic!
So call an Applause Sales Expert now to get your tickets at a great price with the Applause Insider Deal. 800-451-9930 Applause is a NY State Licensed ticket agency for August:Osage County and all Broadway shows!

Get Great Deals Right Now to the Revival of "Guys and Dolls" with Applause Theatre Service!

Word of mouth is whats keeping "Guys and Dolls" running on Broadway. After the Broadway revival of “Guys and Dolls” opened to mixed to negative reviews, the producers held discussions about the show’s future and decided to keep it running, according to several theater industry sources familiar with the talks.

These sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity in order to disclose private discussions, said the producers had confidence in the quality and popular appeal of the production, directed by Des McAnuff (”Jersey Boys”) and starring Oliver Platt as Nathan Detroit and Lauren Graham as Miss Adelaide.

Great news for all of us who love this show and hope it remains on Broadway for a long time!
The producers were also discussing how to market the show, given the dearth of positive blurbs from critics that usually run in advertisements. “Guys and Dolls” has been playing to near-capacity recently, filling 96.3 percent of its seats during performances last week.

Well if you act now, you can get some great deals on this show. Call and ask an Applause Sales Expert for the Insider deal! Applause is a New York State officially licensed ticket agency representing "Guys and Dolls" and all shows on Broadway. 800-451-9930

How to buy Mamma Mia! tickets on Broadway at Below Face Value

If you want to see one of the best Broadway Shows ever to play in New York City, now would be a great time to purchase a ticket or two. Mamma Mia! is a fantastic musical comedy playing on Broadway since 2001 and tells the unique story of a young lady about to be married called Sophie who desires to find out the true identity of her father. The only problem is that there are three potential dad's from here mom's past that seem to "fit the bill".

Mamma Mia! takes place on a small but beautiful Greek Island. The shows story is a simple but fun one indeed that is surrounded by 23 Abba songs. Surely you've heard of the 70's rock and roll band called Abba. Even if you, like me, weren't fans of the group, I must tell you that these Abba songs fit the story "perfectly" in my opinion.

The current stars of Mamma Mia! are Carolee Carmello, Brandi Burkhardt and Judy McLane as Donna and Sophie Sheridan and Tanya (one of Donna's close friends). The music and lyrics are by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus with a book written by Catherine Johnson.

Right now the friendly local Broadway ticket experts at Applause Theater Service in New York can get you into Mamma Mia! at "below face value". What this means is you would get to buy the tickets for less than the regular list box office price. Why is this? It's simple really, the show has been playing on Broadway for many years and is simply making a special offer to the public to see the show, at a nice discount. The discount is valid for all performances except Saturday evenings now through May 24, 2009. My guess is that they may extend the offer into the summer of 2009 as well but there are no official announcements thus far.

If you think you might want to buy tickets to Mamma Mia! in New York or some other terrific Broadway Theater, just give Applause a call toll free at 800-451-9930 or locally at 212-307-7050, seven days a week from 9am till 8pm on most days. Applause is not only a reliable source for up-to-date Broadway Show listings but is available if you just want to talk about your visit to New York. Maybe you need a restaurant suggestion or two. We love to eat out before the theater and can recommend several nice dining spots for you. No tourist traps here friends, just good places to have a nice meal and at reasonable prices.

Applause is a New York State licensed ticket agency for Mamma Mia! and every Broadway Show playing in New York City. When your plans include a visit to Broadway, we would welcome the opportunity to be of service to you, your friends, relatives and people you work with that might have a need for our brand of personal service.

Thanks for reading our Broadway Ticket News today. We look forward to your call. Enjoy the Broadway theater.

Buy tickets for Waiting for Godot on Broadway at Below Face Value

The Broadway revival of Waiting for Godot has started playing preview performances on April 3, 2009 with an official opening night of April 30, 2009. Waiting for Godot features Broadway's popular leading men Nathan Lane and Bill Irwin in a unique comedy written by Samuel Beckett with direction and scenic design by Anthony Page and Santo Loquasto.

Here's the plot of Waiting for Godot. Two men, Vladimir and Estragon are seen waiting on a stretch of deserted road apparently waiting for someone named Godot. While they wait, the men create a kind of a drama of their own doing. What we witness on stage is a very funny wordplay combining some poetry, dreamscapes and a bunch of other "nonsense", all interwoven and interpreted as a mellow conclusion of man kinds continuous search for meaning.

Right now, Applause Theater Service, a local friendly New York State officially licensed ticket agency representing Waiting for Godot and every Broadway Show as well on Broadway, can get you the best seats for Waiting for Godot at the Studio 54 Theater in New York City. In addition, Applause Theater Service can get you into this comedy at below the regular face value as well. Applause can provide these discounted tickets for a limited time only now through April 29, 2009.

If the show opens to great reviews like many in the industry expect, the access to discount tickets will probably be discontinued. If the reviews are not so great, my guess is that we will have access to discounted tickets for an extended period of time.

The folks at Applause Theater Service love to talk about Waiting for Godot and can advise you about all the other Broadway Shows playing in New York City as well. Have a look at our up-to-date Broadway Show list.

The Applause service is a personal one that can be reached locally in New York at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930. I almost forgot, if you need some great restaurant suggestions you can click here or ask the Applause staff for their favorites. They love theater and love to eat out too.

Joe Turner's Come and Gone

Joe Turner’s Come and Gone is a revival of August Wilson’s second play from his series The Pittsburgh Cycle which chronicles different decades of life as experienced by African-Americans. This particular play is set in a boardinghouse in Pittsburgh in 1911. Joe Turner looks into the everyday lives and struggles of the house residents. Although the issues of the time of far more complicated…the play is really more of a “slice of life” depicting everyday life of African-Americans during this time. People searching to find themselves or their place in the world.
This is a beautiful show with a superb cast. Riveting performances from the entire cast with standouts from Roger Robinson, Chad Coleman, Marsha Stephanie Blake and Ernie Hudson. If you want to see a powerhouse team of actors in a fascinating play about human struggles then this should be your choice.

Next To Normal

In the many years that I have been going to the theatre I have enjoyed and been entertained by so many wonderful productions. However, every once in a while something comes along that feels just a little bit different and effects you , or I should say me on a different level. Just the other night I saw NEXT TO NORMAL and this was one of those experiences. It was captivating, moving and I have to say just reached inside and grabbed me. Not to give too much away, the show is a musical about a family dealing with the Mother's struggle with mental illness. Alice Ripley who has won me over so many times before, with such great performances in Side Show and The Rocky Horror Picture Show gives a heart wrenching performance as the Mother. The show has a small cast (5) and I must say everyone gives a strong and emotionally charged performance. This is one of the best experiences I have had in the theatre for quite some time. Don't miss this!

Billy Elliot The Musical- Could it be 2009's Best Musical of The Year?

Right now just about every Broadway theater has a show playing. So much for many people saying Broadway was in trouble when the economy began moving downward.

Did you know that Billy Elliot is one of four shows that take in over $1 million dollars a week at the box office? Not too shabby right? Billy Elliot has been playing to thrilled audiences in New York City for over 6 months now, after premiering in London in 2005. Although I personally have seen more than a dozen or so new shows this season, I can safely say that Billy Elliot is one of the season's highlights.

Billy Elliot is a musical comedy and drama based on the emotional 2000 film of the same name. It tells the wonderfully warm tale of a young, poor "working-class" youngster who unlike most of his peers that simply do what their parents tell them to-decides to follow his passion for ballet dancing. Of course Billy's desire to become a professional dancer meets with "challenges". His family is feeling tremendous pressure from a coal miners strike in England and although his own family is against Billy's dreams, the friends and neighbors of the local town where they live play a big part in seeing if "Billy" can achieve his unique desires.

Billy Elliot The Musical has four actors all alternating in the role of Billy Elliot, played by David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik, Kiril Kulish, and Tommy Batchelor. One of my favorite actors-Gregory Jbara, plays Billy's father and Haydn Gwynne plays Mrs. Wilkinson, his ballet teacher. Carole Shelley plays the young man's grandmother as well. A terrific supporting ensemble cast makes this show some of the very best theater I have ever witnessed in my life.

Billy Elliot has a fantastic book and lyrics by Lee Hall with music by Elton John. Direction is by Stephen Daldry with choreography by Peter Darling. This creative team is among the finest in the theater, film and music industry.

The show is 2 hours and 50 minutes with one intermission and performs every day except for Monday's. It plays at the Imperial Theater on 45th street, between Broadway and 8th Avenue in Broadway's theater district.

I would like to remind readers that Billy Elliot The Musical has received some of the best New York City theater reviews in many years. For example, The New York Times said Billy Elliot is "intoxicating" and is a "joyous, exciting and feel-good celebration of one boy following his heart and making his dreams come true". Time Out New York magazine called Billy Elliot "extraordinarily uplifting". I would whole-heatedly agree theater friends. This show is a must see. In fact, I saw it three times already, each time with a different young actor in the role of Billy Eliot. Pretty neat stuff right?

Most of my friends and people I work with know I usually say good things about most of the theater I take in but there is always a show or two that I can look back upon and remember that it had something "extra special" to offer. I like to feel things when I am in the theater, feel for the actor or the character that is being portrayed. Or even experience some emotion when listening to one of the great Elton John songs. Sitting in the audience at a Billy Elliot performance, I can pretty much guarantee that you, too will feel for the characters as well.

The Tony Award nominations for excellence in the theater will be announced in early May 2009 and I expect that Billy Elliot will lead the pack with a share of these much coveted potential awards. I've seen allot of theater this year and its always hard to pick a winner but for my money, Billy Elliot ranks high as any other musical this season to walk away with the 2009Best Musical Tony Award.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for Billy Elliot. Meanwhile if you think you might want to see this show, you can call Applause Theater Service in New York City, a local Broadway ticket agency, licensed by the New York State Division of Licensing. Applause is open seven days weekly and can be reached at their local New York City number 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930.

If you need to know about other Broadway Shows, you can consult our up-to-date Broadway Show listing or contact one of Applause's friendly ticket experts to talk about theater. Maybe you would like a great restaurant suggestion or two, we can suggest many that we, ourselves go to after work and before attending Broadway plays.

Let's hear it for Billy Elliot. My personal pick to snag some special Tony Awards in 2009.

We hope to hear from interested Broadway theater fans soon.

Rich Gladstone

Check Out Cirque Du Soleil's Kooza

Want to see something a little different? Check out Cirque Du Soleil's Kooza. Opening April 16th under the grand Chapiteau at Randall's Island Park. Kooza tells the story of a loner in search of his place in this world and the array of colorful comic characters he meets along the way. I happen to love Cirque Du Soleil. I have seen many of them during my travels and each one is as beautiful as the next. For those of you not familiar with Cirque Du Soleil it actually combines acrobatic performances and the art of clowning and shows the physical demands of human performance. These shows are always full of color, thrills, chills and surprises. So if you are thinking of something a little off the beaten path Kooza is the way to go! Don't delay call Applause today!

9 to 5 Begins Previews Tonight

One of this season's most highly anticipated shows is 9 to 5 The Musical. Now I'm sure most people like myself saw the classic 1982 movie that the show is based on. Expectations are high for the show but with a stellar cast of Broadway veterans and direction by Tony winner Joe Mantello(Wicked)and choreography by Tony winner Andy Blankenbuehler(In The Heights)you can be rest assured that no matter what the critics say this show will be top notch. Besides it really doesn't matter what the critics say anyway. After all the critics didn't like Wicked and it's the biggest hit of the decade. So you never can tell.

Rock Of Ages Opens Tonight On Broadway

80's Rock fans rejoice. The critically acclaimed show Rock of Ages will make it's Broadway bow at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre tonight following a highly successful run last year Off-Broadway. Having seen the show Off-Broadway I was worried that taking a show that worked so well in a intimate space might be a bad idea. I'm happy to say that I was wrong. From the moment it started it was just like I remembered it. Great story, classic songs, and an amazing cast that gave 110% every time they were on stage. I loved it. I know you will too.

My Pet Peeves

After many, many years of going to the theatre, I have decided to compile a list of my pet peeves of what not to do while attending a Broadway show. So here goes....

The Latecomers-

It is 7:50 PM I am sitting in my seat for the 8PM showitme. About 8:20PM two people come walking down the aisle and stop right beside me and expect me to get up so they can get in.... I grumble and slide my legs to the side and let them climb over me. If myself and the rest of the Theatre can be there on time why can't they?

The Hungry One-

Sitting in my seat waiting for the show to start the overture starts and what do my ears hear? It is the crinkling of paper. I glare over my shoulder and see the person behind me has decided to open a candy bar and proceed to eat it... Hello...were you not sitting here for the last 20 minutes Why now???

The Wanna Be-

This is by far my favorite. The person that sits down next to me and thinks they can sing as good as the performers up on the stage..Hey, I paid to see the show not listen to you as you sing a song you think you know at the top of your lungs.

The Chatter Box-

Then you have the person that thinks it's okay to have a conversation with the person they are with during the course of the show. Hey if you do not want to pay attention to the show pick yourself up and leave. Let the others around you enjoy it.

It's A Family Affair-

Last but not least the parents that bring the kids to see a show and let them talk and kick the seat in front of them without even blinking an eye. Come on people have a little respect.

Whew! Thanks for letting me vent and remember next time you go to a Broadway show be on the lookout!!!!!!

You Too Can Defy Gravity by Seeing Wicked on Broadway

A few months ago I had the privilege of taking my husband and daughter to see Wicked. Well what can I say except We Loved It!!. With music and lyrics by Steven Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman Wicked tells the story of the witches from the Wizard of Oz (Elphaba the wicked witch and Glinda the good witch) how they met and what transpired to get them to the point of being enemies. Where Wicked ends the Wizard of Oz begins. I now understand why Wicked plays to sold out audiences nightly. The sets, costumes, lighting along with every thing else makes Wicked a must see for everyone when visiting New York. Don't delay call Applause today!!!!

Jersey Boys on Broadway is still one of Broadway's Best Shows of 2009

After winning the coveted Tony Award for the 2006 Best Musical, I am pleased to tell you that Jersey Boys is still one of the finest put together Broadway Shows I have ever seen in my lifetime. Songs like "Sherry", "Big Girls Don't Cry", "Oh What A Night", "Walk Like A Man" and many others will bring back memories of your childhood perhaps as well as tap into a new feeling of what life could have been like for four regular guys from New Jersey back in the 1960's. Although I was a teenager growing up to the sounds of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons music, I can tell you "firsthand" that my own son Adam (who is a drummer and musician himself) loves this music very much.

You see, a musician looks to find their niche or as Frankie Valli himself said in the Jersey Boys Show-they wanted to find ""our sound", that special sound that millions of music lovers for decades now have come to love.

Jersey Boys The Broadway musical is based on Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons in which we get to witness the interwoven lives of four "blue collar"friends from the wrong side of the tracks so to speak who overcame the ordinary path they were on, worked hard and became one of America's most popular bands ever. They were famous for writing their own songs. In fact Bob Gaudio, the head song writer of the group is responsible for making sure the story transferred so well to Broadway. They sold over 175 million records before the age of thirty. Not too shabby right?

Jersey Boys is 2 hours and 30 minutes long and plays at the August Wilson Theater seven days a week. The cast playing right now include Jarrod Spector as Frankie Valli, Dominick Nolfi as Tommy DeVito (my favorite character in the show), Andrew Rannells as Bob Gaudio and Matt Bogart as Nick Massi. Matt has the most Broadway acting experience playing in Miss Saigon, Smokey Joe's Cafe and Aida. The supporting cast, many who play Broadway regularly are a talented group and make the show shine.

The shows original creators are Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, who wrote the Book with Music and Lyrics by Bob Gaudio (one of the original Four Seasons) and Bob Crewe (one of their original producers) that was able to get their music on the radio. Des McAnuff directs this show beautifully (he is currently directing) Guys and Dolls on Broadway as well. Choreography is by Sergio Trujillo, who I noticed did the same for a new show in previews called Next To Normal (which I think may win the 2009 Best Musical Tony Award).

Although Jersey Boys has been playing to sold out audiences for a few years now, it looks like tickets for good seating and reasonable prices are finally here theater friends. If you think you might want to see Jersey Boys, think about giving Applause Theater Service a call to discuss seeing one of Broadway's top selling shows ever. No kidding, I can think of thousands of people we had the pleasure of serving over the past few years. We sold tons of tickets for Jersey Boys, many of them at the "top of the theater". Why would we do this? The show was so hard to get that people were willing to sit anywhere, and they were happy to sit up top. Most people don't know it, but New York theaters are pretty small, no seats are really too far away from the stage. I never had a complaint, not one. In any case, Applause can get you a great price in the top mezzanine seats and for a few bucks more, seeing as how this show is getting older-we can secure better seats in the orchestra or front mezzanine, much closer to the action taking place on stage.

If you think you might want to see Jersey Boys, you can contact Applause's friendly ticket experts right here in the theater district at 212-307-705o or toll free at 800-451-9930 seven days a week, all year long.

There's never any pressure to buy at Applause. A look at our web site, maybe a click on our video and you'll soon see, we are interested in helping Broadway customers have an amazing day or night on Broadway. It's not about making a sale at all. We feel we will always have our share of business. We want to help make memories and are interested in lifelong relationships, not a quick sale.

So if you like great personal service, maybe a restaurant suggestion or too (we love to eat) and know where all the great eating establishments are- check out TODD'S DINING SUGGESTIONS) if you like, let us hear from you today.

I can hear you now walking out of the theater, possibly looking at your loved one and saying "Oh What A Night", just like The Four Seasons did.

Enjoy Jersey Boys as well as other Broadway Shows you may want to see. And remember, if you want someone to talk to about Broadway Shows- no pressure friends, call us today.

Sincerely,
Rich Gladstone

Buy Avenue Q tickets in New York City at Discount Prices

Avenue Q is a fantastic musical comedy which opened on Broadway on July 31, 2003. It was the winner of three 2004 Tony Awards for theater excellence including the Best Musical of the Year award. The show is often referred to as "the trials and tribulations of the people and puppets in the neighborhood". It is the story of a recent bright-eyed college graduate named Princeton who decides to move to New York City and live a life he has long dreamed of. Naturally, he has no money and the only place he can live in the big city is on Avenue Q. He finds out that life's not all he necessarily thought it would be but fortunately he finds out that he has a bunch of friendly and funny next door neighbors. Actors and their puppets play the roles of this very funny and heartfelt story. I really loved the show and if you don't mind some provocative language and suggestive matter, this show will entertain you from beginning to end. It is not recommended for youngsters but older teenagers and above please.

Avenue Q was written by Jeff Whitty based on an original concept by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx with Music and Lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx and Direction by Jason Moore. Right now Howie Michael Smith plays the roles of Princeton and Rod, Christian Anderson plays Nicky, Trekkie Monster, Bear and some other characters and Carey Anderson plays the roles of Kate Monster and Lucy T. Slut. Additional cast members are Nicholas Kohn, Ann Sanders, Carla Renata and Jennifer Barnhart. They are a very talented group of actors who will shine on Broadway for many years to come for sure.

Avenue Q has been playing to crowds of excited theater-goers for a long time now. Right now, Applause Theater Service can get you into this show (if you think it's right up your Avenue Q alley so to speak)-at a big discount off the regular price of admission. Broadway tickets don't have to be expensive if you know how to shop for the best seats and prices. A simple call to the local Broadway ticket experts at Applause Theater Service can save you lots of money on Avenue Q for all performances through May 31, 2009 except for the Memorial Weekend blackout period of May 22-25, 2009.

Click on the Avenue Q page on our web site, check out what everyone says about the show then simply pick up the phone and call the friendly Applause ticket agency. At Applause there is never pressure to buy tickets, just good "old-fashioned" service and nice people to talk to. We hope to hear from you soon.

Oh just a few other items to note when searching for tickets. If you want to know about other Broadway Theater, we have updated our show listing today, just click here for Broadway's full list of shows.

And when you start thinking about dinner before the theater you may want to check out Todd's restaurant suggestions too. We love to eat and took the liberty of making a list of great places for you to dine.

Take care theater-lovers. We hope to hear from you soon when your plans include Broadway Theater.

Rich Gladstone

Get Tickets to see Next To Normal on Broadway-Could this be the Best Musical of 2009?

Hello Broadway Theater fans,

This is Rich Gladstone, aka The Broadway Ticket Man writing to you a personal review of the next possible "Best Musical of the Year" Tony Award winner for 2009. That award could very possibly go to Next To Normal, a brand new musical drama playing at New York City's Booth Theater.

Next to Normal is in previews prior to an April 15, 2009 official opening on Broadway. The show is a modern day look at how mental illness can affect the average family. In particular, it deals with how the family, friends and medical help all cope with the various crisis that come up as they try to support a suburban mother's mental health problems. Although one might think this story line would work better in a non-musical format, wait till you get to witness the powerful and "rockin'" music from the band onstage as well as the sometimes "provocative" lyrics throughout this 2 hour and 40 minute Broadway production.

Next to Normal has a fantastic cast including J. Robert Spencer as Dan (best known for his role as Nick Massi in Jersey Boys) and Alice Ripley as Diana (best known for her Tony-nominated role in the Siamese twins cult musical Side Show as well as playing a key role in The Rocky Horror Show). Rounding out the cast is Jennifer Damiano playing the role of Natalie (Dan and Diana's daughter), Aaron Tveit playing the role of Gabe the son, Adam Chanler-Berat as Henry, Natalie's boyfriend and Louis Hobson who plays the role of Dr. Madden, Diana's psychiatrist.

Next to Normal is a truly inspiring look into how much a family can be affected by illness but more importantly, just how far two parents will go to keep their family together for the long term. The shows Book and Lyrics are written by Brian Yorkey with Music by Tom Kitt. Michael Greif directs this exciting new musical with wonderful scenic design by Mark Wendland. Costume design is created by Jeff Mahshie, lighting is by Kevin Adams, sound is by Brian Ronan and musical staging by Sergio Trujillo. Orchestrations are by Michael Starobin and Tom Kitt.

Right now I believe Next to Normal will be nominated for several Tony Awards and expect ticket sales will grow with word of mouth as well as the great critic reviews it is sure to receive. Billy Elliot is my other favorite to be in the running for this years Best Musical, winning several Tony Awards as well.

Right now I have a suggestion for you. If you think you might want to see Next to Normal in the next few weeks, a simple call to Applause Theater Service in New York City, a local Broadway ticket expert, we can get you great seats at discount prices. The producers of the show are only offering these special discount prices through April 23, 2009 performances. After it officially opens to critics reviews, my guess is the "discount" promotion will be discontinued. It's just the way things are with Broadway tickets. If a show starts selling out, discounts are taken back. One thing to remember though, if you are looking for discount prices and it doesn't necessarily matter which show you see, consult our discount ticket deals list. We usually have upwards of 15 shows we can get at very good rates.

As I close, let me leave you with a brief film clip of my thoughts about Next to Normal in a short video taken outside the Booth Theater last night. I hope you enjoy it.

Let me hear from you if you want to talk about getting tickets to Next to Normal, other great Broadway theater or even if you need . We know so many wonderful places to eat before the theater. You can call Applause Theater Service 7 days a week locally in New York at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930.

We look forward to your call. Take care now and enjoy the Broadway theater.

Reasons To Be Pretty Opens Tonight On Broadway

This week I had the opportunity to see the new play reasons to be pretty. I had read up on the show prior to seeing it and thought it sounded interesting but knew it had the potential to either be a hit or miss with me. Well all I can say is it was definitely a hit. I would go as far to say that in my 17 years of living in this city it was one of the greatest evenings in the theatre that I have ever had. I would even go as far to say that in that time I have seen over 100 shows and would rank reasons to be pretty in my top five. It is that good. All I have to say is go see it. 'Nuff said.

Critics Rave about the New Musical Revival of "Hair"!!!!

To quote Britney Spears, Oops, I did it again! If you read my blog 2 weeks ago reviewing the new revival of "Hair", you know how I said that the critics are gonna go gaga over this show. I sure did and they were unanimously in agreement. This thing totally took me off guard! I loved it! I pretty much nailed the last 4 openings on Broadway, which tells me that I may be in the wrong profession(just kidding, I love working for Applause, how else would I be able to see all of these incredible shows). This show is going to stick around Broadway for a long time to come. You must hurry to get your tickets to see this glorious production.

Here is a complete list of all the critics reviews so that you can read for yourself how well received this show was;

"Hair":
[ NYT ] Audio Slide Show: New Look, New 'Hair'
The set designer Scott Pask talks about transferring the musical "Hair" from Central Park to a Broadway stage.
[ A ] Hair Raiser By Brandon Voss
Hottie Gavin Creel may not take it all off in the Broadway revival of Hair, but he does put it all out there in his first interview with Advocate.com. Yep...he's gay.
[ BS ] Four Heads with 'Hair' By Gerard Raymond
[ ET ] 'Hair' Grows Again on Broadway
[ FOX ] FOX411 By Roger Friedman'Hair' Makes a Sizzling Broadway Statement
[ ND ] Linda Winer's Broadway review: 'Hair'
It's "Hair." It's here. Get used to it. "Hair," which opened indoors at Broadway prices last night after a smash last summer, free in Central Park, has settled its sweet, raucous and powerful self into the Hirschfeld Theatre for what deserves to be a very long time.
[ TM ] Hair Reviewed by: Brian Scott Lipton
Diane Paulus' sure handed staging of the 1967 antiwar musical, both joyous and heartbreaking, makes this show the year's best Broadway musical revival.
[ BN ] Hippies of 'Hair' Still Explode With Great Music: Jeremy Gerard (****)
"Hair" was then and is now the most exciting new show in town, not so much a breath of spring air as a jolt of adrenaline.
[ NYT ] Fizzy, Frizzy Welcome to the '60s By BEN BRANTLEY
This emotionally rich revival delivers what Broadway otherwise hasn't felt this season: the intense, unadulterated joy and anguish of that bi-polar state called youth.
[ YN ] Joyous revival of 'Hair' arrives on Broadway with exuberance intact By Michael Kuchwara, The Associated Press
At age 40-something, "Hair" is the liveliest show in town.
[ DN ] 'Hair' revival's high fun by Joe Dziemianowicz (****)
[ NYP ] AN AMAZING 'HAIR' DAY By ELISABETH VINCENTELLI (****)
I have zero nostalgia for the 1960s, but I love this "Hair."
[ USA ] New 'Hair' revival lets it all hang out By Elysa Gardner ( * * * * out of four)
[ AMNY ] Review of Hair by Matt Windman (4 out of 4 Stars)
[ THR ] "Hair" flows in dynamic Broadway staging By Frank Scheck
Broadway audiences should be letting their "Hair" down for a long time to come.
[ BS ] Hair - Reviewed by DAVID SHEWARD
After a run last summer in Central Park, this Public Theater revival has moved indoors, and it looks like the hippies will be grooving there for a long time.
[ V ] Hair Review by David Rooney
Director Diane Paulus and her prodigiously talented cast connect with the material in ways that cut right to the 1967 rock musicals heart.
[ BR ] Sixties spirit grows long and strong BY ROBERT FELDBERG
"Hair" might not have the power to shock or to liberate that it did 41 years ago, but the exuberant revival of the iconic rock musical gives Broadway a welcome jolt of energy. It's also lots of fun.
[ HC ] 'Hair' Lets The Sun Shine In By MALCOLM JOHNSON
The production of "The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical," which opened Tuesday night at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, still generates power despite its scattered book, first seen off-Broadway in 1967.
[ TB ] Hair Review by Matthew Murray
What Broadway desperately needs is a new Hair, not a new production of the old one: something that will identify today's youth, with its fears and its loves and its music, to the mainstream and encourage a more complex understanding of where they're taking the world. That would be a far richer tribute to this work's lasting legacy than this accomplished, enticing, and thoroughly meaningless revival.
[ BG ] Innocence, spontaneity lost in 'Hair' revival By Louise Kennedy
The bad puns almost write themselves. It's too long. It's dull. It's flat. It has lost its shine.Oh, I give up. I just watched "Hair" and I can't do a thing with it.
