New York City Is The Most Popular Tourist City
The statistics are in and it looks like New York City picks up the honors for becoming the "most popular" visitor destination in the United States in 2009. New York City was host to over 45 million visitors in 2009, edging out Orlando by nearly 700,000 visitors. This information comes from NYC & Company, New York City's tourism bureau.New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg recently said that New York had originally predicted up to a 10 % decline in 2009 visitors. He went on to say that the weaker than usual dollar along with discount hotel room rates and cheaper airfares lead way to higher than expected occupancy rates at New York City hotels. In addition, PFK Consulting, a company that tracks hotel statistics, said that statistics for the first 11 months of 2009 as compared to 2008 show that that occupancy rates went down 5.7 % to about 81 % while the average room rate declined by nearly 24 % to $234.00.
Many in the hotel community in New York City are expecting a softer start in visitor traffic in 2010 with a building trend that should help New York City increase its visitor traffic by about 3 % this year to nearly 47 million visitors. According to NYC & Company Chief Executive George Fertitta "we expect 2010 will be a year of recovery". NYC & Company and the mayors office are expecting that visitors will top the 50 million mark in 2012.
An article I was reading yesterday in Crain's New York, a highly respected business newspaper, pointed to several positive key factors with regards to an economic recovery in New York City. For instance the hospitality industry is beginning to show signs of strength. In November 2009 alone, New York City hotels, dining establishments and bars employed over 311,000 workers as compared to 308,000 in November 2008 and 307,000 in 2007. This may not seem like a big increase but the trend is beginning to show that the hospitality sector is on the rise again.
As the overall economy recovers in 2010, I personally wanted to let prospective New York City bound visitors in on a little secret. Most people are well aware that Broadway Show tickets for plays and musicals can be very pricey. Rising ticket prices have been the trend for many years now, often pricing millions of people out of the market from attending live entertainment events. With this in mind, we'd like to suggest that anyone interested in attending Broadway Show plays or musicals consider a call to Applause Theater Service, a local Broadway ticketing expert.
Applause Theater Service has been providing excellent tickets as well as an incredible personal customer service for nearly 23 years now. Thousands of people call on Applause to get advice on what shows to see, different seating and pricing options and to get their insider's tips on which restaurants to dine at.
As New York City tourism continues to gain popularity in 2010, and visitors continue to look for the best live entertainment prices for Broadway, Applause Theater Service is continuing its below face value ticket deals promotion for most of Broadway's shows. The below face value promotion is Applause little "secret weapon" in their daily goal of bringing about affordable Broadway Show ticket prices for lots of people that might not ordinarily get the opportunity to see a Broadway show.
Since going to see a Broadway Show is one of the most popular things to do in New York City, why not contact someone who cares about helping you have the best possible time you can have. And save you money as well.
If your plans include a visit to New York City, you have a friend here waiting to help you. That friend is Applause Theater Service.
Cheers,
Rich Gladstone
