Shrek To Open In The West End
London theatre just got a little more exciting. It was just announced today that Shrek is set to open in London's West End. Now while no dates have been announced it is speculated that the book and score have been rewritten since the Broadway production closed this past January. I for one loved the show and thought that it should have enjoyed a longer run on the Great White Way then it did. Let's hope that the London version is a big hit. If any shows deserves to succeed it is Shrek. Keep your fingers crossed. Until next time theatre fans.JWB

Applause And London Theatre
Planning a trip across the pond in the near future? Well why not take in a show while you're there? Not only is London home to some of the most exciting plays and musicals in recent years but where else will you see classic productions of one of the world's greatest playwrights of all time. I am course talking about the one and only Mr. William Shakespeare. You've heard of him right? Now say Romeo and Juliet or Hamlet is not your cup of tea. How about Andrew Lloyd Webber's newest musical Love Never Dies? Sure the reviews weren't the greatest but ticket sales are still going through the roof. Right now there are over twenty-five musicals playing in London along with over thirty plays. That's more than Broadway. I guess it helps that they have twice as many theatres as we do. With this many shows to choose from how can you possibly go wrong? Give us a call and let Applause Theatre Service give you a theatrical experience that you will never forget. What do you have to lose?JWB

London Breaks Records In 2009
Well it looks like Broadway wasn't the only one to experience a record breaking year in 2009. It was just announced that London's West End had one of it's best years to date. According to figures released by the Society of London Theatre both theatre attendance and box office revenue were at an all time high in 2009 with attendance at over fourteen million and box office revenue exceeding over a half a billion pounds. Among the shows that experienced the biggest increase were Billy Elliot who posted it's highest figures during Christmas and Sister Act The Musical who broke all previous box office records at London's Palladium Theatre.Nica Burns, president of SOLT, commented, "Britain's artistic community continues to create exceptional work. The extraordinary quality and breadth of productions available nightly in London explains these record figures in such a difficult year economically. Whilst our musicals continue to flourish, 2009 was an outstanding year for plays – proving that audiences respond to challenge and stimulation as well as toe-tapping entertainment. Excellence is everything – look no further than London's theatre which adds a great deal more to London's revenue than just the ticket sales."
Don't forget that if you need tickets for any show in London we are just a phone call away.

"Wicked" Celebrates its 1000th Performance at the Apollo Victoria in London!
Well a lot of people in my office thought "Wicked" would be a big dud in London! Boy how wrong they were! The smash hit musical celebrated its 1000th performance at the sold-out matinee on Saturday the 14th. The award-winning musical opened at London's Apollo Victoria Theatre in September 2006 and is now in its third year. Acknowledged as the West End's most successful musical, Wicked has already been seen by almost two million people and has done millions at the box office. In addition to the London production, Wicked is also currently running in North America, Japan, Germany and Australia. It is still the hottest ticket on Broadway after already running for over 6 years. It is certainly one of my all-time favorite shows having seen it at least 6 times! The crew here in my office felt as if the English were not big fans of "The Wizard of Oz". Too American they said! Sorry guys, a great story with great music will sell anywhere.
Call an Applause Sales Expert to get your tickets to this show as well as all London Shows. Claudia, Jay & Carol are our London experts, but any agent will be happy to help you! 800-451-9930

The 2009 London Theatre Season

Well it looks like the second half of the 2008-2009 London Season is shaping up to be one of the best in recent memory. From classic revivals to new works by some of London's most exciting playwrights London theatre has something for everyone. First up is the highly anticipated revival of Samuel Beckett's Waiting For Godot starring Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart. Performances begin April 30 at Theatre Royal Haymarket Company. Now for those of you that can't make it across the pond to see it don't fret. There is another star studded production of this theatre classic starring Tony winners Nathan Lane and Bill Irwin. Performances for the Broadway production of Waiting For Godot begin on April 10 and tickets are already going fast so don't delay.
Next up is a revival of Lionel Bart's beloved musical Oliver. Playing the role of Fagin is Mr. Bean star Rowan Atkinson. Playing the role of Nancy is Jodie Prenger who won the role via the BBC reality show "I'D Do Anything". Oliver has always been one of my favorite shows and the advance word on this production not to mention a healthy advance sale should make Oliver a big winner.
Other shows opening in the next few months include: The Royal Shakespeare Company's revival of its 2005 production of A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Novello, starting Jan 15, followed by The Taming of the Shrew on Feb. 12.There is a new revival of Richard Greenberg's Three Days of Rain at the Apollo beginning on January 30, and a stage adaptation of the film On the Waterfront by its screenwriter Budd Schulberg, directed by Steven Berkoff, beginning Jan. 28 at the Haymarket Theatre.
What a season. Not only does Applause have access to these shows but we sell other shows in London as well. Here is a list of some of the many shows in London that are available.
