Broadway Revival Of West Side Story Celebrates Anniversary

That's right theater fans. This Friday will mark the first anniversary of the Broadway revival of West Side Story. The show which first premiered on Broadway back in 1957 opened on March 19, 2009 at the Palace Theatre. Having never seen a live production of the show prior to this one I must admit I walked in with a little bit of trepidation. The movie has always been a personal favorite of mine and I wasn't sure if this production would live up to the film. I mean how could it? The movie is an Academy Award winning masterpiece after all. However I was intrigued when I heard that several of the songs were being sung in Spanish.

So there I was on a Wednesday matinee in March waiting for the show to begin. Right away that familiar music began to play and I felt right at home. Cut too two and half hours later and I was smiling from ear to ear. Is this production as good as the movie? No. Looking back I was wrong to try and compare the two. This production should stand on it's own and while it may have some flaws it is still a must see for any fan of musical theater. Chances are this will be the last time this show will be on the Great White Way again. We should treasure it while it is still here. Get your tickets to see West Side Story on Broadway. It is a classic.

Celebrate Valentine's Day With A Broadway Show

That's right all you crazy romantics. Valentine's Day is only 30 days away and what better way to spend the evening with that certain someone than with a Broadway show. Well now that you have figured out how to spend your evening the next step is to pick the show. It's not as difficult as you might think you know. Give up? I guess I'l have to tell you. The Phantom of The Opera of course. Not only is it Broadway's longest running show but also one of the most romantic shows ever written. How about South Pacific? Not only is it a classic but it shows that love can conquer all obstacles. Now while I loved both shows my pick would be West Side Story. Now while the show may end on a depressing note there is no greater love story than this modern day version of Romeo and Juliet. Still can't decide? Well if you are looking for something a little different then might I suggest Rock of Ages. Besides having a great music it is another show about two strangers finding love against all odds. Well there you are. I've given you plenty of choices. The rest is up to you. Have a great Valentine's Day.

West Side Story Winter Sale

Good news theatre fans. One of last years biggest hits is now available at some incredible savings. I am talking about West Side Story. The show which was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Musical is one of the world's most beloved shows of all time. Growing up I was a huge fan of the movie but had never seen a live production. Therefore I was very excited when it was announced in the fall of 2008 that the show was coming back to Broadway for the first time since 1980.

Following a sold out run at the National Theatre is Washington D.C. the show opened on Broadway in March of 2009. The show received a lot of buzz initially when it was announced that four of the songs were to be performed in Spanish. While I applaud the idea of trying something new a lot of people did not care for it. Due to an overwhelming negative response from audiences the lyrics were switched back to English within six months.

While I enjoyed the show the highlight for me was the Tony winning performance of Karen Olivo as Anita. She was worth the price of admission alone. Good seats are available for all performances. In fact if you call Applause now we can get you tickets to see the show at some terrific prices. This offer is only good thru March 21 so don't delay. Get your tickets to see West Side Story The Musical on Broadway. It is fantastic.

Leading Ladies Extend In West Side Story

This is good news for you fans of the new revival of West Side Story. Although I guess it's hardly new anymore since next month will mark it's first Anniversary. The show which received very good reviews is still selling very well at Broadway's Palace Theatre. Right now Josefina Scaglione(Marie)and Tony Award winner Karen Olivo(Anita) are expected to be in the show at least thru the Summer. I have been a big fan of Karen Olivo since In The Heights so I am very happy that she is continuing in the role. Tickets are now on sale thru May 30 and good seats are available for all performances. Get your tickets to see West Side Story the musical on Broadway. It is a winner.

My Experience With West Side Story

I'll never forget the first time I saw West Side Story. The movie that is. It was during my freshman English class in high school and our teacher had as watch it because we were reading Romeo and Juliet. I figured how bad could it be. I had seen plenty of musicals both on stage and on film and had just performed in my first one the year before so I knew what to expect. Now I'll be honest when the movie started and these so called tough guys started dancing I and most of my male classmates started to laugh. It wasn't until a few years later when I watched again that I truly appreciated it for the cinematic masterpiece that it is.

Now for years there have been talks about West Side Story coming back to Broadway but nothing ever materialized. In fact the last one until now was 1980. I thought it would never happen. Then in the Summer of 2008 it was announced that the show was returning to Broadway following a Washington D. C. engagement. The big question is would it be any good. The show opened to rave reviews in Washington and the show made it's way too Broadway in March 2009. As a ticket broker we are often invited to all the new shows prior to opening so we can talk about them when people call wanting on feedback on what to see when the come to visit New York.

So there I sat on a rainy Wednesday afternoon waiting to see a live production of West Side Story for the very first time. The music began to play and just like in the movie the Jets make their first entrance. This time I wasn't laughing. Nearly three hours later the show was over and I make my way out thru the doors onto seventh avenue reflecting about what I just saw. Did I enjoy it more than the movie? No. But I didn't hate it either. The cast for the most part is good with Tony winner Karen Olivo(Anita)being the real standout. Look the show may not be perfect but chances are this will be the last time West Side Story will be on Broadway for many, many years if not at all. Enjoy it while it lasts. Until next time theatre fans.

My Thoughts On West Side Story

When it was first announced that West Side Story was coming back to Broadway I know I wasn't the only person that was excited. The movie was one of my favorites growing up as a child and I was eager to finally see a "live" version of this classic musical. Not only that but I couldn't wait to see one of my favorite performers Karen Olivo perform the role of Anita. Early on in the run we were invited to see the show and I was hoping that I wouldn't be disappointed.

So there I was on a rainy Wednesday afternoon sitting next to my boss waiting for the show to begin. All of a sudden that old familiar tune began to play. I got chills. That would not be the last time. Now the show isn't perfect. While I enjoyed the show overall there were parts that could and should have been stronger. However the blame lies with the director. Not the cast.

Having said that if you are looking for a show with a spectacular score and a cast of hard working performers than this is the show too see. Get your tickets to see West Side Story on Broadway. It sizzles.

West Side Story Won't Be Just Any Night!!!!!!!

If you love the movie like I do you will love this production of West Side Story.West Side Story takes Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet to the gang-ridden streets of Manhattan in the 1950s. Instead of the Capulets and Montagues, we have the Puerto Rican Sharks versus the Anglo Jets. In place of Romeo and Juliet are Tony and Maria, two teens torn between ethnic loyalty and their intense, abrupt love for one another. The Leonard Bernstein- Stephen Sondheim score includes "Tonight", "Somewhere", "Maria" and "Somethings Coming.West Side Story stars Josefina Scaglione and Matt Cavenaugh. It was just announced on Aug. 25 that slight lyric changes were put into place during production at Broadway's Palace Theatre on Aug. 20.Two songs that had been performed in Spanish since the shows opening — "A Boy Like That" ("Un Hombre Asi"), sung by Tony winner Karen Olivo, and "I Feel Pretty" ("Siento Hermosa"), led by Tony nominee Josefina Scaglione — are now delivered mostly in English. The Spanish sung by the Sharks in the "Tonight" (Quintet) remains. For a great night out on Broadway go see West Side Story. For the best seats at the best prices call Applause!!!!

Tonight's The Night to See West Side Story...

Back on Broadway West Side Story is delighting fans of all ages. In what director/librettist Arthur Laurents says will convey authenticity, this version of the landmark musical will have Spanish interwoven in the dialogue and songs and gang members who are more thug life than thug lite. A classic love story West Side Story tells a Romeo and Juliet type of tale set in the gang ridden street of New York. Instead of Romeo and Juliet you have the Tony and Maria two teens torn between ethnic loyalty and their intense, abrupt love for one another. With great dance numbers and a wonderful score with songs such as "Tonight", "Somewhere", "Maria", " I Have Love" and "Something's Coming" West Side Story is one show not to be missed. For the best seats at the best prices call Applause!

West Side Story-Broadway Goes Bilingual

Some of you may have heard that the new revival of West Side Story is in Spanish. Now don't worry. The whole show is not in Spanish. Just a few songs and some dialogue. Now having seen the movie many times over the years I knew all the songs going in so it really didn't phase me. Now for those of you who think that they will be lost I have good news for you. The English lyrics are printed in the program so if you have any doubt as to what the heck they are saying then you are good. The dialogue is minimal and you can pretty much figure out what they are saying by their body language and facial expressions. It amazes me that so may people seem to be turned off when they hear that some of the show is in Spanish. Personally I think it adds another layer to the show and makes it even more powerful. It does not and should not keep you from enjoying this stunning production of one of Broadway's most beloved musicals.

Get Your Tickets To See West Side Story On Broadway

Still haven't seen West Side Story yet? Well don't worry because based on the boffo business it is doing every week you can expect it to be around for a very long time. The show which was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Musical Revival received glowing reviews in Washington D.C. prior to it's Broadway run which began this past March. I'll admit I had very mixed feelings about the show. As far as the music goes it sounded as good as I have ever heard it. Now while some of the performances weren't as strong as they should have been all in all it was pretty good. Karen Olivo who plays Anita and won a much deserved Tony Award for her performance is worth the price of admission alone. Tickets are selling well but the good news is that Applause has availability for all dates. Call now and get your tickets to see West Side Story on Broadway. It is one of Broadway's most beloved musicals after all.

West Side Story-Broadway's Most Popular Revival

The reviews are in and it's unanimous from critic's and audiences alike. West Side Story is a hit. The show has been playing to packed houses eight times a week at the Palace Theatre since it began previews in late March. The movie has been a favorite of mine since I first saw it during my Freshman English class in high school. We were studying Romeo and Juliet so our teacher thought we should see a Modernized version of the Shakespearean classic. I'll admit that when these supposed tough guys started dancing every guy in my class began to crack up. It wasn't until years later that I learned to appreciate the show for the masterpiece that it truly is. I had the opportunity to see the show during the first week of previews and thought it was very good. My favorite was Karen Olivo who won a much deserved Tony Award last month for her portrayal of Anita. She is worth the price of admission alone. The show is currently on sale right now thru January 31 and I expect it to be around for a very long time. Call Applause now to get your tickets to see West Side Story on Broadway. It is a show for the ages.

West Side Story Keeps Broadway Dancing

Most people know that West Side Story is one of the true American musical classics. West Side Story tells the modern day tale of a Romeo and Juliet love story. The show is being revived on Broadway right now in an open ended engagement that is most likely to run for years it seems. West Side Story is selling between $1.2 and $1.4 million dollars in ticket sales most weeks according to Playbill.com. I've seen the show a few months ago and although I've seen it in revival form at other times over the years, I thought it still had good relevance even for today.

West Side Story takes place in 1950's New York City as we see two rival gangs (The Jets and The Sharks) battle for the same neighborhood turf. The different ethnicity's create turbulent situations between the members of the gangs. The lead roles are Tony (played by Matt Cavanaugh) and Maria (played by Josefina Scaglione). The two are immediately drawn to each other as soon as they meet. Unfortunately, Maria, who is the sister of Bernardo (The Sharks gang leader), is forbidden to see Tony. Even though Tony's gang member days are in the past and he seems ready to take on the responsibilities of adulthood and the aspect of being in love with Maria, their relationship only serves to fuel the "anger" between the gangs.

Karen Olivo plays the role of Bernardo's girlfriend. Ms. Olivo won a Best Featured actress Tony Award in 2009 for her outstanding portrayal of "Anita". She also appeared in In The Heights, the 2008 Tony Award Best Musical of the Year. She's an unbelievable dancer, sure to light up the Broadway stage for a long time to come.

West Side Story is directed by Arthur Laurents with music and lyrics by the legendary Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim. Choreography is by Jerome Robbins with some "re-staging by Joey McKneely. I loved the dancing in this revival of West Side Story and also the addition of a few of the songs that were sung in Spanish.

Despite the difficult economic times thus far in 2009, I must say, even with over 31 years in the Broadway Show ticket industry, I was surprised how well an older show like West Side Story has been selling to the crowds of New York City tourists and locals alike. In fact, most of the Broadway Shows have been doing well except for a few non-musicals that recently closed due to lack of sales. I think an old-time story that everyone on some level can still relate to as well as some modern changes to it might help to explain why West Side Story is still making lots and lots of ticket sales these days.

Although there are many shows playing on Broadway throughout the summer of 2009 and many more scheduled to start playing in the coming weeks, I would suggest you consider the possibility of obtaining tickets to West Side Story. If you need assistance, we hope you'll consider a call to Applause Theater Service in New York. Applause has been a New York State licensed ticket agency (license #71AP1001029)for nearly 22 years now and is an expert at securing the best seats for the best shows at the very best prices on Broadway.

Beat The Heat With Broadway's Coolest Show West Side Story

Being a big fan of the movie I was thrilled when it was announced the West Side Story was coming back to Broadway after an almost thirty year absence.Sure I knew the stage production would be different from the movie. They usually are. I didn't care. I just wanted to see it. I mean how can you listen to that music and not be moved? I dare you to try. So there I am at the Palace Theatre sitting in Row P of the Orchestra getting ready for the show to begin. The lights dim,the curtain rises, and the Orchestra starts to play. For the next 2 1/2 hrs I was transfixed by what I was seeing up on that stage. Now I have always been a big Karen Olivo fan since In The Heights. She did not disappoint. Evidently the Tony Voters agreed with me cause last month she won a much deserved Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. That being said the rest of the cast was just as good. Talk about working their butts off. I'm glad I went to see it and if you get the chance to see it I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Customers talk back with Todd

You know today was one of those days that I love...When one call after another is just a pleasure. I spoke to many wonderful travel agents today that always put a smile on my face, several hotel concierges that are always a pleasure and some of the nicest consumers as well. I had such a great call from a delightful Grandmother bringing her 6 grandchildren in to see The Lion King. I got her the perfect seats for them all to see and we had the best chit chat in between it all. Then a wonderful travel agent called and wanted to book GOD OF CARNAGE, and then she asked me what it was about. I told her it is a raucous comedy where 2 families come together to discuss their kids fighting on the playground and only ending up behaving worse than the kids. She said that sounds like alot of fun and reminds me of a story when my son got in trouble for hitting another kid back after being struck at the Y. She laughed and said I told the administrator who said we have a "no hitting" policy that if you hit me right now...I would hit you right back and I am standing by that with my child. I love hearing other peoples stories.
Travis, an agent from Texas (another of my favorites) called looking for some suggestions for his clients that are bringing the family in to NYC. We went through all the various shows that are appropriate; Lion King, Mary Poppins, Mamma Mia, Bye Bye Birdie, Shrek, Little Mermaid and I think they are probably leaning towards West Side Story. Customers talk back with Todd

Customers talk back...with Todd

Yesterday I was speaking with a customer that thanked me for suggesting that he take his family to see SHREK the Musical www.applause-tickets.com/shrek.asp. He told me that his whole family just loved the show, and that Sutton Foster (who plays Princess Fiona) just amazed his teenage daughters. I told him I liked the show very much as well and was also a BIG fan of Foster's work. I spoke of her other work in shows like "Thoroughly Modern Millie", "Little Women" and "The Drowsy Chaperone" and how delightful she is to watch all the time. He said his daughters wanted to meet her. I told him I live in the area and have often seen her on the street in my neighborhood and she appears to be an easy going and sweet person. He couldn't wait to go tell his daughters. Funny such a small piece of information can bring someone so much delight. But he said his girls would be excited to know that as talented as she is...she still appears to be a very genuine person.
We then discussed the next exciting choices for them to see. Looks like BILLY ELLIOT www.applause-tickets.com/billy-elliot.asp and WEST SIDE STORY www.applause-tickets.com/west-side-story.asp are next on their plate.

Call Applause Now To Get Your Tickets To See West Side Story On Broadway

One of this season's biggest hits is West Side Story, the 2009 Tony Award nominee for Best Revival of a Musical. When the show was first announced last summer I wasn't sure how it would do. There have been so many revivals over the years that there was no guarantee that this production would be a success.Prior to coming to New York the show played a month long engagement in Washington D.C. where it played to packed houses and received outstanding reviews from the critics. Now history has shown us that just because you get good notices out of town doesn't mean you will on Broadway. Well it not only did it open to great reviews by the New York critics but the show is selling out nightly at the Palace Theatre. The good news is that Applause has tickets to the show for every performance and at prices that you won't find anywhere else. So why not give us a call? You'll be glad you did.

Why you SHOULD see HAIR

HAIR…This might be one of the best reviewed shows this season. But yet it is not selling as well as the not so well reviewed revival of WEST SIDE STORY. Interesting as this points to the fact that the public really doesn’t pay that much attention to the critics and their reviews. WEST SIDE STORY is a good revival if not great, but HAIR is a great revival. So, why the difference? Is the public less familiar with HAIR? I don’t think so, as at least 3 songs from the show have had numerous pop recordings over the years. Who doesn’t know and love the songs… Aquarius, Good Morning Starshine or Let the Sun Shine In? So is it the subject matter? Hippies advocating peace and love in a time of war. As far as I can tell that’s not far from where we are now.

In the 60’s it was controversial because of its profanity, illegal drug use and sexuality. Here we are 40 years later, and is it possible that these things are still controversial? The fact that the entire cast goes bare for the end of the act in a defiant act of burning their draft cards scares people? Maybe! One of the questions I have heard again and again is..."Do they really get naked or is it simulated? "Bare, naked and beautiful! Yes, they get naked and it is beautifully staged, lighted and all a part of this glorious show that is all about freedom. I witnessed people in the audience from 10-80 and everyone was taken on the ride, from laughter and love to peace and harmony to the reality of despair and death. Let your hair down and go see this amazing production, it is a part of our history that still has so much relevance in our world today. This is still the Age of Aquarius, where our hope is that one day we can all love one another despite religion, sex or race. Make Love not War!

Musical Revivals Are The Thing!

Right now there are five musical revivals currently running on the Great White Way. They are Chicago,Guys and Dolls,Hair,South Pacific, and West Side Story. The longest running revival is Chicago which has been running since October 1996.Now granted I loved the show when I saw it back in 1997 but I never expected it to be still running some twelve years later. Say what you want about producers Barry and Fran Weissler but they know how to keep a show running.

Next up is one of my all time favorite shows Guys and Dolls. Having seen both the 1992 revival and the current production I can honestly tell you that while both productions are radically different in style and performance I enjoyed them both. I also think that the critics were much too harsh in their reviews about the current revival.Yes it is a different Guys and Dolls that most people are used to but so what? If you are going to revive a show like Guys and Dolls again then you need to bring something new to it. If not then what's the point?

This season's second revival and one of my favorite shows of the season is the revival of Hair. Prior to seeing the show I had never seen a production of the show or the much loved film. I loved everything about the show. From the sexy and energetic cast to the soulful and inspiring score I was transferred back to the 1960's. I fully expect this show to win the Tony Award for Best Revival along with a win for it's innovative director Diane Paulus.

Last years most acclaimed show and one of our biggest sellers is South Pacific. This Tony Award musical is the first Broadway revival of this Broadway treasure since it opened over fifty years ago. I saw the show in previews and was totally enchanted by the show. The show now in it's second year currently stars Tony winner Paulo Szot and Laura Osnes.

Finally is West Side Story. I loved the movie since I saw it over twenty years ago and was dying to see the show for the first time live on stage.I thought it was a good production. Do I think it deserves all the praise that it has received? No. I think Karen Olivo is the shining star in this overall lackluster production. Now remember this is just my opinion. Do I think you should not see the show? Not at all.I think most people will love the show. I just didn't.

HAIR vs. WEST SIDE STORY: Broadway Tony Battle Begins/Two Shows Fight For Victory!

This is war…or anti-war…or something. Those crazy, love-loving kids from the hit revival of the revolutionary Broadway musical HAIR had a great opening night. It was a big one, and the critics couldn’t have been more harmonious in their praise for the show. The result is that there is now a battle of two shows for the best musical revival nod…and we’re not talking about Guys and Dolls(although it's still a great musical that should be seen).

This is a Broadway battle between the Arthur Laurent’s gangs from WEST SIDE STORY against the peace-loving nudies from HAIR. The prize is nothing less than Tony Awards, affection and most importantly an audience! West Side Story has had fantastic box-office numbers, and is the more “traditional” of the two shows. HAIR seems to have the advantage of retaining its credibility both as an anti-establishment show and as a relevant exploration of the complications of youth and is also selling extremely well.
Both shows are stunning Broadway, and it will be a battle worth watching as the two shows compete for the hearts
and minds of Tony voters, and audiences. What an amazing season on Broadway this is! I'd have to say my vote goes to Hair. Sorry Arthur! It just blew my socks off!

Call Applause now to get your tickets to these great shows while you still can(especially before
the Tony nominations come out next Tuesday 5/5) and any show on Broadway for that matter. We have great deals available(ask for the Insider Deals). We always get you the best seats at a great price! 800-451-9930

Tonight, Tonight, See West Side Story on Broadway

My favorite movie growing up was West Side Story. Every time it would come on I would plop myself in front of the Television (black & White) and watch and sing along. I think I knew every word back then. Well my favorite movie is now on Broadway at the Palace Theatre playing to sold out audiences nightly and I couldn't be happier. West Side Story is a modern version of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. It takes place in New York City and tells of the clash over ethnic loyalty and and intense love for one another between Maria who is involved with the Puerto Rican Sharks against Tony who is involved with the Anglo Jets (both street gangs). With a classic score by Leonard Bernstien and Stephen Sondheim and directed by Arthur Larents this remake of West Side Story is sure to be a hit and a show you do not want to miss. For the best Seats at the Best Prices Call Applause.

How to obtain West Side Story tickets on Broadway-at Reasonable Prices too

Every time you hear people talking about buying tickets for Broadway Shows, it seems that people say that prices are ridiculously high today. This is especially true for sold out shows like West Side Story, now playing to raving audiences since its opening night reviews several weeks ago.

I loved West Side Story. You may remember this 50 plus year old show being one of the Broadway theater productions that led to innovative changes in a shows subject matter and choreography. Mr. Arthur Laurents, who originally wrote the book for West Side Story has returned as this revival's director as well. His original book still holds up well considering all the time that has passed. And the cast featuring Matt Cavanaugh, Karen Olivo and newcomer Josefina Scaglione as well as the entire supporting ensemble does a superb job at taking you back in time to this "Romeo and Juliet" love story.

Featured songs include "Tonight", "Somewhere", "America" and "I Feel Pretty". Three of the songs were translated into Spanish which seems very real and natural to those of us growing up in New York City. Some of the dialogue is in Spanish as well but not enough to be concerned that it wouldn't feel right to you sitting in the audience. Lin-Manuel Miranda the wonderful writer of the music and lyrics for In The Heights, another awesome Broadway Show currently playing on Broadway was the person who translated the songs into Spanish for this production of West Side Story. What a talent my friends.

Jerome Robbins choreography is some of the finest ever to appear on a Broadway stage. Mr. Robbins amazing choreography has been beautifully re-staged by Joey McKneely. You will enjoy watching this production of West Side Story.

Now getting back to the title of this blog- "How to obtain West Side Story tickets-at reasonable prices". It's simple really.

If you think this show might be something you want to see, you can make a simple call to Applause Theater Service, a local Broadway ticket expert that has been providing tickets to every show on Broadway for 21 years now. Applause is a New York State licensed ticket agency that offers an extremely personalized level of customer service as well as "reasonable prices for West Side Story and all Broadway theater.

Why pay high prices when you can talk to local experts, tap into their extensive inventory of West Side Story tickets, pay a reasonable service fee and get the tickets delivered right to your door. Could you ask for anything more?

Applause is open 7 days a week. These guys love talking about Broadway Shows. I almost forgot, they love to eat too so if you need some restaurant suggestions, just ask them where the good places to eat are. They often refer theater-goers to a fun street in the theater district called Restaurant Row. It's located on 46th Street between 8th Avenue and 9th Avenue, right in the heart of the theater district. Here's their web site. I've eaten at over a dozen of these places so call me personally if you need assistance.

Whatever you do, don't pay high prices for West Side Story or a place to eat before the theater. Contact a local company that would like to help you make your trip to Broadway, one to remember for a long time to come.

We hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,
Rich Gladstone

Want to know how to obtain FRONT CENTER Broadway Theater Tickets-At Amazing Prices too?

It's simple really. The perception about getting "front and center" seats is that they need to cost the public an arm and a leg. Well I know the Broadway Show ticket business fairly well. I've been working in this business for over 31 years now and allot has changed. Let me explain.

A few years back, the producers of a few shows started charging double and triple the price of a regular orchestra seat, but promised a seat in the first 10 rows center of the theater. It sort of made sense when you think about it because the investment when producing a show these days costs millions of dollars. And often times, those millions are lost when a show doesn't sell too well. It also helps to have these higher ticket prices offset the usual discounting that goes on in the ticket business when a show cannot sell out all their tickets. When you add constantly increasing prices every year or two, orchestra seating has gone from $100.00 a seat to over $130.00 for some shows, in just a couple of years. So when a legitimate ticket agency adds a small service charge, the retail prices people pay start getting pretty high indeed.

So one can piece together that the Broadway Shows plan is to sell "high priced", "regular priced" and "low priced" tickets. The low priced tickets are when a show really needs a helping hand and so they offer discounts. This blending of pricing ends up giving many show producers a fairly good "average price". Sort of like most businesses today that simply want to keep running and make a reasonable profit.

So how can you get FRONT and CENTER seats for Broadway Shows at reasonable prices? Here's a little tip for you. You can contact local experts to talk with and simply ask "how do I get choice seats for the show you want to see at the best possible price"? Now friends, if a show is really hard to get like Wicked, Jersey Boys, Hair, South Pacific, West Side Story or Billy Elliot, in general, if you ask for a front center orchestra seat you will be quoted prices upwards of a few hundred dollars a ticket and higher.

If you make a simple call to Applause Theater Service, a local Broadway ticket agency that is licensed by the Department of Licensing for New York State, you can find out how to obtain seats for the show of your choice, and at reasonable prices as well. One of the things that sometimes happens is that some of these so-called "premium" or "front and center" seats that usually do in fact sell for double and triple the usual cost, become available, and at the usual regular price, not the higher price. Make sense? It's simple really, the shows want people to pay a premium (higher price) but at some point they have to settle for accepting the regular (lower price). Otherwise the seat may go unsold. Since the producers ideally want to sell as many seats as possible of course, they understand that they, too, will have to accept a "blended" sort of pricing.

In the end, it reminds me of buying an air line ticket or staying in a hotel but getting a high price on one visit then a low price on another visit (probably because it is their off season).

So my advice to the public that is not only interested in obtaining front and center seats at a reasonable price, but wants to know how to get into Broadway theaters at discount prices as well (sometimes under the regular face value) is simple. Just contact Applause Theater Service in New York City, located right in the heart of the theater district.

At Applause Theater Service, there is never any pressure to buy tickets. Just good old-fashioned advice and exceptional service. If you make the call, you'll know what I mean. They can be reached at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930. Applause is open 7 days a week and love to talk about all the Broadway Shows.

And if you need some expert suggestions of places to dine before the show, we often recommend some of our favorite restaurants on Restaurant Row, located on 46th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues in the theater district. There are 16 unique palate pleasing places to grab a nice meal. We hope you'll have a look at the Restaurant Row web site. And if you want to talk about one of the places, just give Applause a call today.

Have fun planning your next visit to the Broadway theater.

Rich Gladstone

New Revival Of West Side Story Is a Gem

Having never seen a stage version of West Side Story I was very excited to see the current production. All I can say is "Wow!" I can't remember the last time I was so moved by a Broadway show. Now sure there are a few kinks that need to be fixed, but I personally think that any kinks they need to work out will be gone by the March 19th opening.

Every performer from top to bottom was outstanding. Although If I had to pick a favorite in the show it would be Anita played by the talented and sexy Karen Olivo. She has been a favorite of mine ever since her fantastic performance in In The Heights. Why she wasn't nominated for a Tony I will never know. Well not only do I see her getting a nomination for her moving performance in West Side Story but I am placing my bet now that she will win the Tony Award at this years ceremony. Today's Daily News did a feature story on Miss Olivo that you might want to check out.

Anyway back to West Side Story. There's not much left to say except go see it.You know the story. You know the songs. Now experience West Side Story live on Broadway. You will remember it for the rest of your life.

Cast Announced For The Revival Of West Side Story

After much speculation and rumors complete casting was announced today for the upcoming revival of West Side Story. The cast of this landmark musical will feature an array of Broadway veterans as well as a few newcomers. Playing the star crossed lovers Tony and Maria are Matt Cavenaugh(A Catered Affair,Grey Gardens,Urban Cowboy)and 21 year old Broadway newcomer and acclaimed opera singer from Buenos Aires Josefina Scaglione. Rounding out the cast is one of my favorites Karen Olivo (In The Heights) as Anita. Portraying the parts of rival gang leaders Riff and Bernardo are Cody Green and George Akram. It has been almost 30 years since the last revival and I can't wait to see this one. Expect West Side Story to be a big contender come Tony time.

Get Tickets To See West Side Story On Broadway Thru Applause Theatre Service

The new Broadway production of West Side Story, directed by Arthur Laurents, will begin previews Feb. 23, 2009, at the Palace Theatre(current home to Legally Blonde)According to producer Kevin McCollum,(Tony Award winning producer of Rent, Avenue Q, and In The Heights)this new production will "introduce the unprecedented element of selectively weaving Spanish throughout both the book and songs." West Side Story librettist Arthur Laurents who was recently lauded for his highly successful production of Gypsy recently stated that,"This show will be radically different from any other production of West Side Story ever done. The musical theatre and cultural conventions of 1957 made it next to impossible for the characters to have authenticity. Every member of both gangs was always a potential killer even then. Now they actually will be. Only Tony and Maria try to live in a different world." Expect this new production of this landmark musical to be one of the most highly anticipated of the season.
