What To See In NYC

Can you believe the year is almost over? I sure can't. Where has the time gone? I started the year out by seeing In The Heights for the third time and now as the year comes to a close I am trying to figure out what show to see to round out 2009. Maybe I'll see Shrek again before it closes. Too soon in my book by the way. How about Chicago? I haven’t seen it since 1997. I enjoyed it back then so maybe it’s time to see how this Broadway institution is holding up.

Excluding a dinner theatre production of Bye Bye Birdie I saw in high school I have never seen the show on Broadway. That is an option too. Who says I have to see a musical? For the first time in years Broadway is alive with some of the best new plays as well as revivals of some of theatres greatest dramas.

From Superior Donuts to Hamlet. To God of Carnage to A View From The Bridge. Broadway has it all. See that’s what is so great about the theatre. So many choices. Which one will you choose? Me. I don’t know yet. But no matter what I can always count on the theatre to give me a night that I will never forget. Until next time theatre fans.

The Future Of Broadway

Last night as I was walking home a car drove by with an advertisement for Chicago The Musical. The tag line was "Broadway's Sure Thing". It got me thinking. When it comes to Broadway nowadays the term "Sure Thing" doesn't really apply anymore. Gone are the days when any big musical from London was an automatic hit. Yes Billy Elliot is very popular and was showered with awards but seats are usually available for most performances. In the state that the economy is in people simply can't or won't shell out a $126 to see a show that may or not be any good.Look at something like Memphis. It got great reviews across the board and yet last week they were at 60% capacity. What does that tell you?

Look Broadway isn't going anywhere. There will always be plenty of new shows or revivals coming in each and every season. That will never change. However if Broadway is going to thrive then the price of the ticket either needs to go down or the costs of the productions do. When a show like Spider-Man needs to spend $52 million on a show then something needs to change. It is just one man's opinion. Until next time theatre fans.

My Love For In The Heights

The people in my office like to give me a hard time about my obsession with In The Heights. Now I think obsession is a strong word. Yes I admit I love the show and listen to the show two or three times a week but I am not obsessed. Truth is I haven't seen the show in a long time. Not that I haven't tried but when you work as much as me it's hard to find the time. Plus I think it's more important to have a roof over your head than see a show every week like some people do. Now I don't mean to knock those people.Look if you can afford to see the same show week after week than more power to you. I just don't have that kind of money. I use whatever money I have left over every month to pursue my own show. I think that is why I love In The Heights so much. It is about people with a dream. People who no matter what the odds do not give up until they achieve those dreams. That is what Broadway does. Makes you believe that anything and everything is possible. That is In The Heights. Go see it. Until next time theatre fans.

What Will Be This Season's Breakout Hit-Part Two

Last week I highlighted the first eight shows to open on Broadway during the upcomimg 2009-2010 Broadway Season. Here now are the next nine.

Memphis:A New Musical(Shubert Theatre)Yes! A new musical. According to press notes Memphis," Takes place in the rockin' dance halls of Memphis, Tennessee comes this hot and bothered new Broadway musical with heart, soul and energy to burn. Set in the turbulent south in the 1950s, it is the story of Huey Calhoun, a white radio DJ whose love of good music transcends race lines and airwaves. The show which opened to very good reviews at the La Jolla Playhouse last year is the first new musical of the season. I am very excited about this show and I hope it is given a chance to succeed.
First Preview:October 19
Open Run

After Miss Julie(American Airlines Theatre)This new adaptation of August Strinberg's 1888 play takes place in 1945 and stars Sienna Miller, Johnny Lee Miller and a personal favorite of mine Tony nominee Marin Ireland who starred in last seasons reasons to be pretty. Buzz has been strong due to Sienna Miller and tickets are already starting to sell very well. As is always the case with Roundabout Theatre shows subscribers have most of the prime seats before the show already opens so don't wait until the last minute to get your tickets for what is sure to be a critical and audience favorite.
First Preview:September 18
Closes:December 6

Brighton Beach Memoirs-Nederlander Theatre
Neil Simon returns to Broadway with one of his most successful and popular plays. This new revival will also run in repertory with Broadway Bound. Both show's center around Eugene Morris of Brooklyn and his eccentric but loving family. Neil Simon is one of my favorite playwrights and I can't wait to see it.
First Preview-October 2
Open Run

Finian's Rainbow(St.James Theatre)-This revival of one of Broadway's most loved and controversial musicals returns to Broadway for the first time in over forty years fresh off a very successful run last Spring at The New York City Center Encores! That production received good reviews from critics and audiences alike. Can a show that played a limited run of five performances fill one of Broadway's largest theatres eight times a week? We will soon find out.
First Preview:October 8
Open Run

In The Next Room, or The Vibrator Play(TBA)Critically acclaimed American playwright will make her Broadway debut in this new play produced by Lincoln Center.Other than that there is no other info. Lincoln Center has an outstanding track record so I expect this show to at least be interesting. How can it not with a title like that?
First Preview:October 22
Open Run

Fela!(Eugene O'Neill Theatre)This new musical based on performer and activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti, is directed and choreographed by Tony Award-winner Bill T. Jones, with a book by Jim Lewis and Jones. Mr. Jones choreographed one of my favorite shows Spring Awakening, and I am very excited to see his new work. The show which had a very successful run Off-Broadway has been rumored to be moving to Broadway for the last year and a half. I'm glad to see it's finally going to happen. By the way the last show to play 39 Arts and transfer to Broadway was a little show called In The Heights. Perhaps you've heard of it? It won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2008. Will lighting strike twice again? I think so.
First Preview:October 19
Open Run

Ragtime(Neil Simon Theatre)Has it really only been 10 years since the last production closed? The show which first premiered in the brand new Ford Center for the Performing Arts(Now the Hilton) Why the changed the name I'll never know. Oh that's right. Because the big bad hotel chain bought them out. Well I guess it's better than the Holiday Inn or the Super 8 Theatre. Anyway back to Ragtime. Before the show first opened in late 1997 it had a very well received run in Toronto and was expected to be a massive hit when it moved to Broadway. The show got very good reviews and was nominated and expected to win the Tony for Best Musical. Only problem was that was the same year as Lion King and well we all know what happened there don't we? Lion King won the Tony and Ragtime closed within two years losing millions of dollars in the process. Now most people believe the major downfall of Ragtime was not the show but it's producer and his overspending. By the way that producer was convicted last month for embezzlement. Karma is a bitch. This new production which opened to rave reviews in Washington D.C is said to be a lot smaller and better than the original. We will soon find out won't we?
First Preview:October 23
Open Run

Race(Ethel Barrymore Theatre)David Mamet returns to Broadway for the second year in a row with his first new play on Broadway since last years November. The show which Mamet is also directing stars James Spader and Richard Thomas. Spader who is one my favorite actor's will make his Broadway debut with this new show. Little is known about the piece but expect lots of controversy and of course profanity.
First Preview:November 16
Open Run

Broadway Bound(Nederlander Theatre)See Brighton Beach Memoirs
First Preview:November 18
Open Run

Well that's the season so far. Which will fail and which will succeed? I myself can't wait to find out.

WANT TO SEE A HOT SHOW TONIGHT

Steve called up this morning on his cell phone. He had seen our website on his iPhone. He said he would like to see Wicked tonight but he wants great seats. Rich, The Ticketman, told him that the show was sold out but to give him a little time. Rich called him back and gave him H2 and H4 side section on the center aisle 13th row. To be honest Applause is probably successful over 90% of the time in getting you seats at the last minute. Normally the face value of H2 & 4 is $300 per ticket. They are premium seats. However, since it was the day of the show Applause was able to provide the seats for $166. Another satisfied customer. Please keep Applause in mind no matter how close to the performance. Our staff will do its best to please you. Remember all the gadgets of today make access more readily available.

A Day In The Life Of A Ticket Broker At Applause Theatre Service

Wow! I can't believe that I have been in the tickets business for over eleven years. It seems just like yesterday when I started my first day as Ticket Sales Representative at the Roundabout Theatre Company. From there I moved on to the Box Office where I became the Assistant Treasure for Studio 54.(Home of the Tony Award winning Cabaret)Now I'll admit moving from the phone room to the box office was a little daunting at first. As a phone rep I was used to answering questions and handling any complaints that came my way. Sounds easy enough right? Now I would be forced to handle those problems or issues face to face. To be honest it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. In fact I enjoyed it. The show continued to be a success and I was happy to be a part of it. For awhile at least. Selling the same show year after year can get a little boring. So I decided it was time for a change. So I searched around and before you knew it I had found a new home. Applause. Now I get the chance to help a wide variety of people from all over the world and I get to talk about my favorite thing. Broadway. It doesn't get any better than that.

Customers talk back with Todd

Customers talk back...with Todd

I talk about Maureen all the time and as I have mentioned previously Maureen comes to NYC a lot. She is a travel agent from Kansas who sends so many people my way. She is so well traveled and full of stories. I love talking to Maureen. As well as theatre, we love to chat and compare our favorite restaurants. We are both fans of Roberto Passon on 9th Ave. So when I discovered that a cute little wine bar/restaurant (Gallo Nero) that I have been going to was owned by the same chef… I called her and told her she had to go. I know she is gonna love it! When you buy tickets from APPLAUSE, just ask...we'll make you a reservation at one of these great spots too!

Guys and Dolls Revival on Broadway- Applause Has Insider Prices

One of my all-time favorite shows, Guys and Dolls is coming back to Broadway. Preview performances start February 3, 2009 with an opening night set for March 1, 2009.

Oliver Platt and Lauren Graham star in this classic 1940's-era musical story about a group of "small-time" gamblers and their lady friends lives. Guys and Dolls features a fantastic score from Composer Frank Loesser, including "Luck Be a Lady", "A Bushel and a Peck" and one of my all-time favorites, "Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat".

This musical revival is directed by very talented Des McAnuff (Jersey Boys, Tommy, The Farnsworth Invention and many others). The book is written by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows and will play at the recently refurbished Nederlander Theater in New York City, recent home to the Tony Award winning musical Rent.

For a limited time only before the shows official opening, the friendly ticket experts at Applause Theater Service have access to an Insider Ticket deal for Guys and Dolls. Right now Applause offers special pricing and great seating for most performances through March 29, 2009. Special group pricing for the next few months is available for all performances at the moment.

If your plans include buying tickets for Guys and Dolls or one of the other exciting Broadway Shows, we hope you'll call on Applause, New York's local Broadway ticket expert.

Oh I almost forgot to mention this. If you want to get some great restaurant dining suggestions, just ask us, we love to eat out at many of the Broadway theater district's area dining spots. No tourist traps I promise. Just good food, service and reasonable prices.

That's all for now. We hope to hear from you, your friends or family and your co-workers too.

Cheers theater friends.
Sincerely,
Rich Gladstone

The Story of My Life-Broadway's New Musical Arrives

Starting February 3, 2009 a brand new musical arrives at New York City's Booth Theater. The Story of My Life tells us the unique story of 2 lifelong best friends Thomas and Alvin. Thomas is a best-selling author and Alvin was his best friend for 30 years. It's a great story about a very funny yet deeply moving tale of an incredibly close friendship and how time "tests the bonds" of their relationship.

The Story of My Life stars Will Chase (Rent, Aida, The Full Monty) and Tony Award nominee Malcolm Gets (best known for playing Richard on television's Caroline in the City as well as nominated for Broadway's Amour in 2003). The book was written by Brian Hill with music and lyrics by Neil Bartram. The director is 2 time Tony Award winner Richard Maltby Jr.

Although the theatre community expects this show to drawer lots of attention in the months ahead, Applause Theatre Service, a licensed and official agent of all the shows playing on Broadway, is offering an Insider ticket deal for most performances excluding Saturday evenings and maybe a few other dates. If you think you might want to see one of this season's most talked about Broadway musicals, you can call the friendly ticket experts at Applause Theatre Service seven days a week, 365 days a year.

And if you are like most folks, you'll consider asking for a few nice restaurant suggestions to add to your "fun" time at the theatre. We love to eat and know where the good places to dine are, particularly in the theatre district.

We hope this story was helpful to you and ask you to contact the folks at Applause whenever your plans include going to The Story of My Life or any other Broadway Show of your choosing. If you think someone else in your life could benefit from using a trustworthy Broadway ticket agency, we would appreciate a referral to them or simply ask you to have them call our toll free number at 1-800-451-9930 or locally right here in New York City at 212-307-7050 at any time.

Remember the Insider ticket deal is for a limited time only, now through April 5, 2009. If the show opens to rave reviews as is expected, this offering will not be available.

Whenever your plans include a Broadway Show, we welcome the opportunity to be of service to you, your friends, co-workers and family members. We hope to speak with you soon.

Rich Gladstone

Liza'a At The Palace- And Applause Theatre Service Loves Her New Show

Who says you can't go home again? Not Liza Minnelli that's for sure.

My wife Celeste and I were lucky enough to get a chance to see the first and only dress rehearsal for "Liza'a at the Palace" brand new "song and dance" show in New York City last night. And my goodness, does she aim to please every second she is on the stage. Working at Applause Theatre Service in New York City for over 31 years years, we often have the great privilege of getting to see many Broadway shows while they are in "preview mode", prior to official opening on Broadway. It is something very special to be able to see a show that departs from the usual Broadway Theater we get to see. We often see shows that have upwards of 40 actors performing for you. This time around we get to witness one of our modern times legendary concert, theater, film and television actresses, Miss Liza Minnelli (daughter of Judy Garland and director Vincent Minnelli), in a show that will take you back to a time when an "entertainer" with tremendous natural talent and heart ruled the day. Liza'a at the Palace has tremendous significance to Ms. Minnelli herself. The idea for her new show on Broadway came quite simply to her. In June 2007 Liza was asked to perform one song at an AmFar benefit for her very dear friend Kenneth Cole (whose devotion to Aids charities and benefits meant so much) at New York's Rainbow Room. Some devoted Liza Minnelli fans at the Rainbow Room offered a $50,000.00 donation to charity on this special night if Liza would perform just one song. She sang one of her favorite songs, "Our love is here to stay". Soon after, Liza and her very good friend Ron Lewis left on a trip to Europe and South America with the goal of creating a show about Liza's godmother, Ms. Kay Thompson, who was MGM's in house voice teacher and talent coach, and a very close friend with Liza's mother, the legendary film and singer Miss Judy Garland.

The show played throughout Europe and met with tremendous success everywhere they went. After several months there, Liza and Ron decided to bring the show back to the states to see if the American audiences would enjoy it as well. I personally just went on-line and read dozens of reviews on Liza's new show just to see if people enjoyed it as much as I did. Well friends, apparently Liza, her band and dancers have pleased tens of thousands across Europe as well as out-of-town fans in North America as well. The word of mouth is outstanding and I couldn't agree more.

At the age of 62 years young, Liza Minnelli takes the stage for well over 2 hours performing song and dance routines, often chatting away and performing monologue's with her dance partners, the band and the audience as well. And with a wonderfully, warm and energetic playfulness and enthusiasm that made me think, "I would really enjoy seeing her perform again". Liza always aims to please just before preparing to sing a new song, during the song and after as well as she moves along into the next song on her play list.

For those that may not know, Liza's godmother Kay Thompson had a very popular 1940's nightclub act of her own. Liza's at the Palace was written by Liza herself and David Zippel, who wrote City of Angels and The Goodbye Girl. This show is directed and choreographed by her friend Ron Lewis with her musical director Billy Stritch. The band is lead on stage by her very close life-long friend, conductor/drummer Michael Berkowitz. John Sher is the shows producer.

The first half of Liza's at the Palace is a concert where she sings songs that have been quite meaningful to her in her career. Especially "Maybe this time", "Cabaret" and "New York, New York", written for her personally by the famous Broadway songwriting team Kander and Ebb. The second act is a "tribute" to her godmother Kay Thompson. We quickly learn that Ms. Thompson's song and dance nightclub act of the 1940's, called Kay Thompson and the Williams Brothers (Andy Williams who made "Moon River" one of the biggest hits ever, was one of the Williams Brothers) was the inspiration behind the shows second act. The four Williams Brothers sing and dance and take us back to the 1940's with their amazing dance and old fashioned crooning singing styles. These guys sure can dance and have a wonderful chemistry with Liza. One that appears quite deep indeed, like a long lasting friendship.

Although Ms. Thompson was known to "nurture and develop talent at MGM Studios" (Liza's mother Judy Garland was one of her most talented students of the stage), she also penned "Eloise at the Plaza", one of the most famous children's books of our time. Kay Thompson's significance on Liza's life is so strong and significant that Liza must have felt it most important to devote the most of the second act to sharing her godmother with the rest of us. It's amazing how deep an impact someone can have on your life when you think about it. Liza and Judy Garland both adored Kay, that's for sure.

Liza Minnelli songs include "Cabaret", "Teach Me Tonight", "If You Hadn't, But You Did", "Hello, Hello", "Mammy", "The Theme From New York, New York" and many others. Liza has won several Tony Awards as well as a Grammy, an Emmy and also won an Oscar for her outstanding performance in "Cabaret".

Liza At The Palace is a limited engagement and plays through December 28, 2008. If you want to see one of our times most legendary song and dance performers, you should consider getting yourself and someone you care about a ticket to Liza's amazing new Broadway show. Liza's mom Judy Garland once said "until you play the Palace, you haven't played the top". How true these words are.

Applause Theatre Service is a local Broadway ticket expert and can secure great seats at reasonable prices for you right now. They can be reached toll free at 1-800-451-9930 or locally in New York City at 212-307-7050.

Liza's back in town friends. And I guarantee she will bring a smile to your face if you've been a fan and followed her career. I have no doubt she will inspire a new generation of fans as well. Enjoy Liza's new Broadway show.

Sincerely,
Rich Gladstone

Broadway Shows Are Stronger Than Ever-Applause Theatre Service Has Amazing Ticket Deals

It seems like every day I come to work at Applause Theatre Service in New York, my staff and I hear things about the Broadway Theater that unfortunately are almost never really true. For instance, ever since the country has been experiencing the "ups and downs" of a challenging economic time in our country, we often hear lots of negative comments about what is truly happening on Broadway.

There are several callers to Applause Theatre Service, a licensed theatre ticket agency and a selling and marketing arm of the Broadway Theater, that have asked us a question that somewhat says "is Broadway closing"? First let me say very clearly and firmly that Broadway is stronger than ever. And let me explain what I mean.

Having been a licensed Broadway theatre ticket expert for more than 31 years now, at this winter time of year, it is "usual" that several shows that are not selling well, often have to close their doors. Although many of these closings generally happen in January, when tourists have long gone home, there are some writers and newscasters that "sensationalize" their stories somewhat with the hopes of garnering more interest in their reporting. Needless to say friends, we are again at the time of year where we ticket agents see some shows close. The cost of running a Broadway show is very high so like all business, except maybe for the greedy huge banks and car companies that think they can run their businesses while "losing money", it simply is a matter of expenses outweighing income. So this is exactly why a show closes.

Now that we've got that out of the way, let's talk about the "real" state of the Broadway Theatre. Although next month we will unfortunately see 6 Broadway shows close- they are Spring Awakening, 13 The Musical, Hairspray, Young Frankenstein, Monty Python's Spamalot and All My Sons, there are still more than 30 Broadway theaters with excellent entertainment options for your choosing as of this writing. I will take the liberty of listing them in a moment.

Meanwhile, let me let you in on a "secret". With very few exceptions like on a Saturday night or a holiday blackout date period, you can contact the friendly Broadway ticket experts at Applause and ask for "Insider Prices" on the following 6 shows that are closing in January. They are as follows:
Spring Awakening closes on January 18, 2009
13 The Musical closes on January 4, 2009
Hairspray closes on January 18, 2009
Young Frankenstein closes on January 4, 2009
Mony Python's Spamalot closes on January 11, 2009
All My Sons closes on January 11, 2009

As far as the "real state" of the the health of Broadway theatre, there are currently more than 30 Broadway Shows for you to choose from. So if a few shows close here and there, you still have lots of options. Some excellent theatre where Applause can secure amazing seats at great prices are the following. They are:
Wicked
Jersey Boys
South Pacific
Billy Elliot
Radio City Christmas Spectacular
White Christmas
The Little Mermaid
Liza's At The Palace
The 39 Steps
The Lion King
All My Sons
August:Osage County
Avenue Q
Boeing Boeing
Chicago
Dividing The Estate
Equus
Grease
Gypsy
Hairspray
In The Heights
Mamma Mia!
A Man For All Seasons
Mary Poppins
The Seagull
Monty Python's Spamalot
Shrek The Musical
Pal Joey
13 The Musical
Young Frankenstein
Phantom of the Opera
Speed The Plow
Spring Awakening

That's all for now theater friends. Five Broadway Shows Set To Close Next Month

I can honestly say in all the years that I have been in this business I have never seen this many closings. As of today Hairspray,Spring Awakening,13,Spamalot,and Young Frankenstein are all set to close in January with rumors of two more to follow shortly.Plus with 3 other shows set to conclude their runs in March there could be up to ten Broadway theatres that are empty. The good news is there are up to a dozen shows set to open in the next few months. Broadway isn't going anywhere. You can count on that.

Want tickets to any show On or Off Broadway? Call Applause Theatre Service now. The best seats at the best prices. That's Applause.

Orchestra Or Front Mezzanine:Which Is Better

Well here it is folks. The Great Debate. Which is better? Orchestra or Mezzanine. Which place has the best view? According to some the Orchestra is the only place to sit. How many times have I heard a customer say" I only sit in the Orchestra." Well what most people don't know or often seem to forget is that in most Broadway houses 50-60% of the Orchestra is on the same level. But hey if you want to spend $180 to see the back of someones head be my guest.

I myself am a big fan of the Mezzanine. In most Broadway theatres the Mezzanine is smaller than the Orchestra. Plus it is elevated. To me that is what makes the Mezzanine better than the Orchestra. Nowadays the sets are so big. Plus being a director myself I know the importance of using the stage to it's full capacity. So you know that from the mezzanine you are going to get a great overall view of everything. Now don't get me wrong there are times when I love the Orchestra too. There is something so thrilling about being so close to the actor's. It really makes you feel like you are part of the show.

So next time you are shopping for tickets just remember that to have a good time you don't have to be "In the first ten rows" . So when it comes right down to it whether you are the first row of the Orchestra or the last row of the Mezzanine just remember that there is nothing like seeing a Broadway show. It is an experience you will never forget. See you at the theatre.

"Liza's at the Palace" Extends! Applause Tickets has your best Seats!

Well, you just knew it was going to happen! "Liza's at the Palace" has extended its run. She will now perform this knock out of a show through December 28th and Applause Theatre Service has your tickets. Its been touring in Europe and the States and will now play the Palace December 3rd through December 28th where her mother Judy Garland famously performed . She is also performing some of her Moms most famous songs, though she won't say which ones. This is an unexpected booking at the Palace where Legally Blonde closed suddenly leaving a couple of month void before "West Side Story" comes in starting February 23rd(Can't Wait!). So lucky for us that this came to be. I love Liza for many reasons. One, she's an incredible entertainer and story teller. One cannot fully understand the talent this woman has until you see her Live On Stage! I also have met her several times. We shared the same voice coach, Andy Anselmo from the Singers Forum along with many a celebrity including Mandy Patankin and Billy Stritch her pianist. I also performed on her recording of The Day After That, an AIDS anthem taken from the Kander and Ebb musical Kiss of the Spiderwoman that we recorded in 3 languages. I also had the incredible honor of performing the song on the very first World AIDS Day at the United Nations. Talk about the goosebumps! I was overwhelmed and will never forget that day for as long as I live and what a great lady Liza was and how fun and easy she was to work with(although she was a perfectionist/took us 3 days to do this and their is also a DVD of the making of it). Needless to say, I feel pretty strongly towards this woman who holds a special place in my heart. So run and get your tickets now to see this living legend! Get Tickets To See Laurence Fishburn In Thurgood Thru Applause Theatre Service

Tony Award Winner and Oscar nominee Laurence Fishburne returns this month to Broadway in Thurgood, a one man show based on the life and momentous times of Thurgood Marshall. I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Fishburne make his Broadway debut 16 years ago in August Wilson's Two Trains Running. And even then you could see had he had theatre chops to succeed. We all know the story of Thurgood Marshall. A descendent of slaves who was a pioneering civil rights attorney, successfully arguing Brown v. Board of Education before the Supreme Court, who then became a member of that exclusive body and making history as the first African-American to serve.

I had the chance to see the show last night and I throughly enjoyed it. Plus at a running time of 90 minutes you'll be home and in bed by 10pm. How can you beat that? The show is only running thru August 2nd so don't delay or you will miss out on one of the great performances of the season.

Pulitzer Prize Winner August:Osage County Set To Reopen At The Music Box Theatre

Meet the Westons. A vanished father. A pill-popping mother. Three sisters harboring shady little secrets. When the large Weston family unexpectedly reunites after dad disappears, their Oklahoman family homestead explodes in a maelstrom of repressed truths and unsettling secrets. Mix in Violet, the drugged-up, scathingly acidic matriarch, and you’ve got a major new Broadway play that unflinchingly – and uproariously – exposes the dark side of the Midwestern American family.

Winner of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, August: Osage County comes to Broadway directly from its critically acclaimed sold-out engagement at Chicago's Tony Award-winning Steppenwolf Theatre Company. This 3hr+ production (Don't let that scare you. This baby moves)was hailed by The New York Times as,"Hugely entertaining! A ripsnorter full of blistering, funny dialogue, acid-etched characterizations and scenes of no-holds-barred emotional combat" And best of all Applause Theatre Service sells tickets to the show. So what are you waiting for? Get your tickets now.

Get Tickets To 2008 Pulitzer Prize Winner August:Osage County Thru Applause Theatre Service

August: Osage County, which opened at Broadway's Imperial Theatre in December 2007, has won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Written by Tracey Letts and directed by Anna D. Shapiro will play its last performance at its current home, the Imperial Theatre, April 20 at 3 PM. Beginning April 29 it will begin performances at the Music Box Theatre.

August: Osage County which takes place in rural Oklahoma, tells the story of the highly dysfunctional Weston family who must return to the family home in rural Oklahoma to care for their afflicted (and mistress-of-manipulation) mother.

It's Unanimous! Nothing but Raves for "Gypsy" and its star Patti Lupone!

I cannot remember a show that has opened to such amazing reviews across the board. "Gypsy", received raves from all the major New York theatre critics including the NY Times (who just gushed over the show and Patti), NY Daily News, NY Post, TimeOut, The New Yorker and Variety.

Gypsy is absolutely my favorite musical of all time and this production does not let you down by any means but I had my problems with the show and wouldn't say it's the best Gypsy that I've seen. Tyne Daly's performance was the best one that I was lucky enough to catch. But now with these amazing write ups, tickets are selling like crazy and don't miss this chance to see this classic musical. Because who knows after 3 revivals of this show in the last 15 years and no other Mermanesque female performer out there at the moment, we may not see it again for quite sometime.

Call an Applause Theatre Service sales expert now and get the best seats at the best prices around. Mention the Applause Insider Deal for some extra savings!

Get Tickets This Spring To 39 Steps Thru Applause Ticket Service

Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps, the critically acclaimed 2007 Olivier Award-winner for Best New Comedy, will transfer to Broadway’s Cort Theatre, following its smash hit sold out limited engagement at Roundabout Theatre Company’s American Airlines Theatre. This tongue-in-cheek thriller features four actors playing over 150 roles. If the reviews are any indication this looks to be a strong contender in this year’s Tony race for best play. And guess what? We sell tickets to the show. So give us a call and see what Applause Theatre Service can do for you.
