It's Just My Opinion

I can't believe it's almost July 4th. Where has the time gone? Before you know it Christmas will be here. Yes I know it's still over six months away but time flies pretty fast in the Big Apple. I should know. I've been here for over seventeen years and it seems like just yesterday that I moved here from Illinois. I'm sure you're wondering where I'm going with this right? Over the years I have seen over one hundred shows On and Off-Broadway. Now of those hundred I would say that maybe thirty of those were original shows. Now I know revivals have their place. Truth be told some of the best productions in the last few years have been reproductions of shows from the 50's and 60's. That's all fine and dandy but where are the fresh ideas? Yes I know every season there are at least 7-8 new musicals. That happens every year. Of those new shows how many are truly original? This past season alone brought ten new shows. Four of those were based on an original idea. Not a hit movie or a cartoon. The only one to survive was Rock of Ages. Now don't get me wrong. I loved Rock of Ages. In fact it was one of my favorite shows of the year featuring some of my favorite songs of all time. None of which were new. Get my point? Look you may not agree with me. That's fine. Afer all it's just one man's opinion.

Jersey Boys on Broadway is still one of Broadway's Best Shows of 2009

After winning the coveted Tony Award for the 2006 Best Musical, I am pleased to tell you that Jersey Boys is still one of the finest put together Broadway Shows I have ever seen in my lifetime. Songs like "Sherry", "Big Girls Don't Cry", "Oh What A Night", "Walk Like A Man" and many others will bring back memories of your childhood perhaps as well as tap into a new feeling of what life could have been like for four regular guys from New Jersey back in the 1960's. Although I was a teenager growing up to the sounds of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons music, I can tell you "firsthand" that my own son Adam (who is a drummer and musician himself) loves this music very much.

You see, a musician looks to find their niche or as Frankie Valli himself said in the Jersey Boys Show-they wanted to find ""our sound", that special sound that millions of music lovers for decades now have come to love.

Jersey Boys The Broadway musical is based on Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons in which we get to witness the interwoven lives of four "blue collar"friends from the wrong side of the tracks so to speak who overcame the ordinary path they were on, worked hard and became one of America's most popular bands ever. They were famous for writing their own songs. In fact Bob Gaudio, the head song writer of the group is responsible for making sure the story transferred so well to Broadway. They sold over 175 million records before the age of thirty. Not too shabby right?

Jersey Boys is 2 hours and 30 minutes long and plays at the August Wilson Theater seven days a week. The cast playing right now include Jarrod Spector as Frankie Valli, Dominick Nolfi as Tommy DeVito (my favorite character in the show), Andrew Rannells as Bob Gaudio and Matt Bogart as Nick Massi. Matt has the most Broadway acting experience playing in Miss Saigon, Smokey Joe's Cafe and Aida. The supporting cast, many who play Broadway regularly are a talented group and make the show shine.

The shows original creators are Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, who wrote the Book with Music and Lyrics by Bob Gaudio (one of the original Four Seasons) and Bob Crewe (one of their original producers) that was able to get their music on the radio. Des McAnuff directs this show beautifully (he is currently directing) Guys and Dolls on Broadway as well. Choreography is by Sergio Trujillo, who I noticed did the same for a new show in previews called Next To Normal (which I think may win the 2009 Best Musical Tony Award).

Although Jersey Boys has been playing to sold out audiences for a few years now, it looks like tickets for good seating and reasonable prices are finally here theater friends. If you think you might want to see Jersey Boys, think about giving Applause Theater Service a call to discuss seeing one of Broadway's top selling shows ever. No kidding, I can think of thousands of people we had the pleasure of serving over the past few years. We sold tons of tickets for Jersey Boys, many of them at the "top of the theater". Why would we do this? The show was so hard to get that people were willing to sit anywhere, and they were happy to sit up top. Most people don't know it, but New York theaters are pretty small, no seats are really too far away from the stage. I never had a complaint, not one. In any case, Applause can get you a great price in the top mezzanine seats and for a few bucks more, seeing as how this show is getting older-we can secure better seats in the orchestra or front mezzanine, much closer to the action taking place on stage.

If you think you might want to see Jersey Boys, you can contact Applause's friendly ticket experts right here in the theater district at 212-307-705o or toll free at 800-451-9930 seven days a week, all year long.

There's never any pressure to buy at Applause. A look at our web site, maybe a click on our video and you'll soon see, we are interested in helping Broadway customers have an amazing day or night on Broadway. It's not about making a sale at all. We feel we will always have our share of business. We want to help make memories and are interested in lifelong relationships, not a quick sale.

So if you like great personal service, maybe a restaurant suggestion or too (we love to eat) and know where all the great eating establishments are- check out TODD'S DINING SUGGESTIONS) if you like, let us hear from you today.

I can hear you now walking out of the theater, possibly looking at your loved one and saying "Oh What A Night", just like The Four Seasons did.

Enjoy Jersey Boys as well as other Broadway Shows you may want to see. And remember, if you want someone to talk to about Broadway Shows- no pressure friends, call us today.

Sincerely,
Rich Gladstone

"A Catered Affair" is on sale now! And Applause Theatre Service has got your tickets to this Broadway Musical Comedy Hit!

Tickets are now available for the new musical "A Catered Affair" written by and starring Harvey Fierstein.
The show has an extremely solid creative team with the book by the legendary Harvey Fierstein and music and lyrics by the highly respected John Bucchino. The production is being directed by John Doyle a.k.a. the man that made Patti Lupone play a tuba; he has staged Sweeney Todd and Company for Broadway with all the actors playing musical instruments. The cast boasts Faith Prince, Tom Wopat, Leslie Kritzer, Harvey Fierstein (doing double duty) and Matt Cavenaugh.

A Catered Affair, based on the Paddy Chayefsky TV film and movie, focuses on a 1950's family and their struggle to run a family business and still provide a lavish "catered affair" for their daughter's wedding. The musical is about family and love. Ahhh - that sounds nice. The reviews have come in from the out of town tryout at the Old Globe in San Diego and there is good news! Let's hear some of the good, shall we?

Variety's Bob Verni had very nice things to say about the show; praising all aspects of the piece. He had particular praise for the quiet and elegant staging of the production:
"No musical has ever been so quiet, so often, as "A Catered Affair," the Broadway-bound adaptation of Paddy Chayefsky's '50s-era teleplay and Gore Vidal's subsequent screenplay. The subject is a family whose communication has reached a dead end, so it's fitting that the most affecting moments are those in which words simply aren't enough. Much is verbalized in Harvey Fierstein's gritty slice-of-life dialogue and John Bucchino's sensitive lyrics, but the use of silence -- sometimes for as long as 30 seconds -- is remarkable: Few tuner directors would conceive of those quiet moments, and even fewer would dare attempt them."

GOOD:
Also in the positive column was Anne Marie Welsh from the San Diego Union-Tribune. Ms. Welsh singled out Faith Prince's performance and the shows simple emotional honesty. She had this to say:

"Aggie's the reverse image of pushy Mama Rose in "Gypsy," and Prince's beautifully restrained, carefully calibrated and thoroughly unsentimental performance should earn her accolades and awards this spring when the show opens in New York. Whether this kind of authentic soul-baring in song is too subtle for Broadway audiences fed on "American Idol"-style belting is another question altogether."

"Otherwise, Fierstein and company have already achieved in this artful piece far more than most hard-selling musicals aspire to: They've created real struggling human beings whose deepest feelings are beyond words - and therefore find true expression in song. "audiences are reportedly loving the show.

Sound Good?? You Bet!! Call Applause Theatre Service, www.applause-tickets.com, now and order your tickets to this new hot musical with its All-Star Cast! 212-307-7050 or 800-451-9930

Applause's Broadway Ticket Business is Amazing for the usual Off Peak Winter Season in New York City

I don't know if it was the Broadway Stagehands strike this past November of 2007 or that the economy is not really in the "bad way" we all hear the newscasters say all the time. But we are busier than ever this winter season for Broadway Show ticket sales.

My first thought was maybe the Broadway strike a few months ago led to a "pent up demand" from the tens of thousands of people that were not able to see a show, but have decided to see one this winter. Some people I guess living near New York City have done this but we are seeing lots of "out-of-towner" ticket buying for Broadway Shows this past January of 2008 so maybe it has something having to do with the Applause Insider Broadway Show ticket deals that Applause has been marketing. You can easily have a look for yourselves at www.applause-tickets.com/insider-deals.asp . We usually find over 20 top Broadway Shows where we can save you so much money, it'll pay for dinner at a fairly nice restaurant before the show you choose.

We know the public is bombarded by dozens of different marketing messages everyday, especially for something like Broadway. But, and here's the main difference between all those Broadway marketing messages and how Applause does business.

The friendly staff at Applause http://www.applause-tickets.com/ prides itself on knowing all the great deals every Broadway Show offers each and every day of the year. With very few exceptions, they can tell you exactly which shows have the best seats for the best prices and the best day or night you may want to attend your favorite theatre production.

Broadway, like most businesses wants to sell full price tickets at the highest possible price. But there is a reality to being able to really be able to sell all the seats at the highest price. It really doesn't happen all the time. Theatres sell High, Medium and Low prices just like most other businesses right?

When you are in the market to see a Broadway Show, there are hundreds of ticket sources you can use. Just go to Google and you'll see what I mean. Here's the problem with that. You go to Google, do a search then you get hundreds of different options of who to ask for help in buying tickets. Now you get more confused than ever right?

I have a great solution for you. Simply trust the good people at Applause Theatre and Entertainment Service in New York http://www.applause-tickets.com/ . The people in the picture have been running this company for years now. There is no one better at giving the most "truthful answers to any question the theatre-going public can come up with". The Applause staff of Broadway ticket experts will let you know what are the best seats, best prices and especially what are the current "insider Broadway Show deals", which might be available for the time frame you wish to see a show. If you are in town for a day, two or maybe more, simply give Applause the time period and they will seek out the best seats at the best prices for the shows you want to see.

When you need tickets for Broadway, give the Applause Broadway Experts a call at 212-307-7050 or 1-800-451-9930, they are open 7 days a week and will take excellent care of your ticket needs.
