Call Applause Now To See Disney On Broadway

Calling all Disney fans. Now is the best time to see your favorite Disney shows on Broadway and not only that but at some incredible savings. So what's your favorite? I myself am not the biggest Disney fan in the world but they do have their place on Broadway. If not for Disney most kids would not get to experience live theatre until much later in their life. For that Disney should be commended. Right now there are three Disney shows currently running on the Great White Way. First up is The Lion King. The show which opened to rave reviews in December 2007 is the show that really put Disney on the map and showed that they are and for the foreseeable future a force to be reckoned with on Broadway. The show which won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1998 is still one of the most popular shows on Broadway and continues to charm audiences of all ages eight times a week at the Minskoff Theatre.

Next up is Mary Poppins based on the much loved 1964 movie and the classic children's book by P.L. Travers. The movie which was actually one of my favorites as a child has been been playing to packed houses since it first opened on Broadway in November 2006. Although the reviews were mixed the show continues to delight audiences from around the world.

Last but certainly not least is The Little Mermaid based on the 1989 film. Truth be told this is the only one that I have seen. Going in I knew that I probably wouldn't like it but a free ticket is a free ticket. I thought it was very entertaining. It is a great show for the whole family.

Well there you have it. Disney on Broadway. Until next time theatre fans.

Disney To Shake Up Schedule This Fall

That's right all you Disney fans. Today it was announced that all three Disney shows on Broadway(The Lion King, Mary Poppins,The Little Mermaid) will be switching to a new schedule beginning on September 7, 2009. Now this it not unusual as they frequently adjust their schedules to coincide with the new school year. Disney has been a force to be reckoned with on Broadway since it opened it's first show Beauty and the Beast back in April 1994 and has never looked back. Now while I am not the biggest Disney fan in the world I understand their importance to the Great White Way. If not for them most kids would never have had their first Broadway experience. My co-worker Carol who has an eight your old daughter told me that seeing the joy on her child's face as she watches a Broadway show gives her as much pleasure as the show itself. Isn't that what the theatre is all about after all? Making people happy. Live theatre. There is nothing like it.

The Lion King will perform 7:00pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. 8:00pm on Thursdays and Fridays; 2:00pm and 8:00pm on Saturdays; 1:00pm and 6:30pm on Sundays.

Mary Poppins will perform 7:00pm on Mondays and Wednesdays; 8:00pm on Thursdays and Fridays; 2:00pm and 8:00pm on Saturdays; 1:00pm and 6:30pm on Sundays.

The Little Mermaid will perform 7:00pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays; 2:00pm on Wednesdays; 2:00pm and 8:00pm on Saturdays; 1:00pm & 6:30pm on Sundays.

Mary Poppins Celebrates Milestone

Mary Poppins, the beloved musical which has delighted audiences of all ages, will celebrate it's 1000th performance on Broadway tonight at the New Amsterdam Theatre. Now when you look at shows like Phantom of the Opera who recently celebrated it's 8,771 performance, a 1,000 shows may not seem like a lot. Nowadays most shows are lucky to run one or two years at best. However unlike most shows Mary Poppins has a built in audience that most shows don't have or in some cases will never have. Plus it's great for the whole family. You can't beat that.

Heidi Blickenstaff is the New 'Ursula' in THE LITTLE MERMAID

Disney sure knows how to entertain us, don't they? The King(or Queen) of family entertainment conquered Broadway with the "Lion King"(one of my all time favorite shows) which is still selling out nightly. Then came Beauty and the Beast then Aida, Mary Poppins(great show!) and finally their latest great creation, The Little Mermaid! Each show is fabulous entertainment and I loved them all! 'Ursula' is certainly one of the best villains ever and was originated in the cartoon movie by the awesome Pat Carroll and then by the great Sheri Rene Scott on Broadway who now turns it over to Broadway favorite and [title of show] star Heidi Blickenstaff(pictured right). The talented and 'very sweet' Blickenstaff assumed the 'very sassy and sinister' role on January 27, 2009.
Blickenstaff was cast as the understudy for the role during the early days of THE LITTLE MERMAID, but left the show when it was announced [title of show] would be moving to Broadway.
THE LITTLE MERMAID takes place in a magical kingdom beneath the sea, where a beautiful young mermaid named Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. But first, she'll have to defy her father, the king of the sea, escape the clutches of an evil sea witch and convince a prince that she's the girl with the perfect voice.
Led by the award-winning director, Francesca Zambello, some of the theatre's most innovative artists have collaborated to create THE LITTLE MERMAID. The score features the classic songs: "Part of Your World," "Kiss the Girl" and the Academy Award-winning Best Original Song, "Under the Sea," composed by eight-time Academy Award-winner Alan Menken and his longtime collaborator, the late Howard Ashman, as well as 10 new songs by Mr. Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater. The book for the new musical is by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning playwright Doug Wright.
If you would like tickets to any of these Disney Broadway productions and get a great Insider Deal(big savings), call an Applause Sales Expert now at 800-451-9930 and mention the Deal!

Disney's The Little Mermaid is a Must See on Broadway-Applause is At Your Service

All my friends know how "easy to please" I am when I go see Broadway Shows. Maybe so but at the age of 52 I have to say that not only was I unsure if Disney's The Little Mermaid was a show for my age group, but I have seen it 2 times already. Once in the front of the theater and once in the back and each time it was a different experience. A really special experience.

The Little Mermaid is a show that takes place in a magical kingdom "under the sea". We get to see a very beautiful mermaid named Ariel (played by Sierra Boggess)and witness the deal she makes with an unscrupulous sea witch named Ursula (played by Sherie Rene Scott)that allows Ariel to become human. She desires to leave the ocean and live her life "above the sea" with her new found "human" love Prince Eric (played by Sean Palmer). Rounding out the cast is Norm Lewis (playing the role of King Triton).

An award winning score by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman and some new songs by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater along with fantastic scenic design by George Tyspin, direction by Francesca Zambello and costume design by Tatiana Noginova are a real treat. This wonderful original story from the Disney film and the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale will please all audiences that go see The Little Mermaid.

For a limited time only through April 3, 2009, the Broadway ticket experts at Applause Theatre Service, located in New York City, are offering Insider Prices on The Little Mermaid for all sections of the theater. Applause has been providing a very high level of personal service in the Broadway ticketing industry for 21 years now. You may have a look at our customer testimonials and see what other ticket buyers are saying.

Applause is open seven days a week, 365 days a year. Simply ask for The Little Mermaid Insider Ticket Deal and if your interested in seeing more than just one show, you may want to have a look at our Broadway Show listings, kept up to date with great frequency. Also you may want to checkout Disney on Broadway's two other popular Broadway Shows, Mary Poppins and The Lion King. These are both excellent family shows as well.

If you are planning on dining out before The Little Mermaid, you can also check out our restaurant suggestions or simply call us directly in New York City at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 800-451-9930. We love to eat our ourselves often after work and know where several great restaurants are in the Broadway theater district.

We hope to hear from you soon and if others you know need assistance with Broadway tickets, we welcome the opportunity to be of service to them as well. Enjoy the Broadway theatre.

See "Wicked" Great Broadway Shows-Don't Miss Out on Applause's Amazing Seats and Excellent Prices

The guys and gals at Applause Theatre Service are a friendly bunch. Several of the staff team write daily blogs on what they find is interesting reading material for our customers and the general public that might want to use our service or at the very least, learn something about their own Broadway interests.

We write about shows that have been playing to big crowds for many years now like Wicked or Jersey Boys as well as Disney on Broadway favorites The Little Mermaid, The Lion King and Mary Poppins .

Sure there are nearly 30 current Broadway productions playing in New York City right now, but the 5 shows mentioned in this particular blog are the most sought after tickets we as Broadway Ticket Experts have seen in a long time. It's been my own personal experience that there is usually one or two, three at most "top tier shows" that garner most of the interest when people call on us and ask for help in obtaining tickets. But these times are different. We now see Disney's presence on Broadway being felt as a "major player' now. The other theatre owner's realize that Disney means business and they can execute all the necessary ingredients that a show needs to in order to remain successful long term.

I've been involved in Broadway Ticket Sales all my life (31 years now) and think our current roster of Broadway Shows is the best ever. So whenever you feel like a special treat, treat yourself and your friends and family to one of Broadway's very special "live experiences".

See a Broadway Show, you'll be so glad you did. Enjoy.

The Little Mermaid on Broadway-An Amazing New Show

I recently had the pleasure of seeing Walt Disney Theatrical's newest Broadway show, The Little Mermaid, in previews at New York City's Lunt Fontanne Theatre two times in the last month. I really enjoyed this latest Disney Broadway creation very much, maybe even a little more the second time. I sat within ten rows of the stage the first time and in the rear orchestra the second time. The excellent staging of this production made both close and far away seating a great night at the theatre.

The Little Mermaid is based on Disney's very successful movie of 1989 and is very capably directed by Francesca Zambello, who is known for her fantastic work in theatre and opera. The show will feature many of the songs originally written by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman (Mr. Ashman died in 1981). Ten new songs were added for this show with the help of Glen Slater.

The Little Mermaid is a great story about Ariel, a beautiful young mermaid who falls in love with Prince Eric (a human). Ariel's father is King Triton (played by Norm Lewis) has forbidden Ariel and her "sea pals" to keep going up to the water's surface as he is afraid the humans will cause harm to them. After ignoring her father's warnings, Ariel and her friends, Flounder and Sebastian the crab keep making their trips. Ariel wants more than ever to become human so she can win the heart of Prince Eric. With this in mind, Ariel pays a visit to her wicked Aunt Ursula, the Sea Witch. Ursula agrees to transform Ariel into a human for 3 days with the agreement that Ariel has to get Prince Eric to kiss her by the end of the third day or give her soul to the wicked Ursula forever.

Ariel is played by lead actress Sierra Boggess, a bright, beautiful and energetic young actress who is sure to have a very successful carreer on Broadway. Since part of the arrangement to become human for the 3 days was that she had to give up her voice, I thought she did a phenomenal job on stage with a gorgeous singing voice and ballet like dance movements.

Prince Eric was played by Sean Palmer, playing opposite Ms. Boggess in a very professianal mannner as her hero. Sherie Rene Scott plays Ursula, The Sea Witch and does an outstanding job whenever she's on satge. Her singing voice is one of the finest ever to be heard on Broadway, in fact, I could swear Ms. Scott has a giant fan club of her own each night I saw her. She brings a "fun like" quality to this role that shows she can take her "wicked" character and add just the right amount of comedy to please everyone in the audience.

Sebastian the crab is played by Tituss Burgess, one of the hardest working and most talented actors on Broadway these days. He aims to please as Ariel's closest friend and his "Under The Sea" brings down the house to thunderous applause. Scuttle the seagull is played by Eddie Korbich and Flounder was played by J.J. Singleton both nights I saw the show. They also od an excellent job.

One of the coolest things I noticed was that most of the cast wore "healy's", which are roller skates that are built into their shoes. This clearly gave you the impression that the "sea people" were swimming. All the actors did a great job on the skates, sort of reminds me of the uniqueness of Starlight Express, which played on Broadway many years ago.

I have had the pleasure of seeing all of Disney's shows on Broadway since they came to New York more than 10 years a go. The Little Mermaid is another beautifully orchestrated show which has all the elements of great theatre- an extremely talented cast, great music, a book that is easy to follow, unique costumes, some very good choreography, but most of all...it has heart.

Sometimes people think that they aren't interested in seeing a particular show because they might not like the story line, or the actors or maybe even because they hear it is a show by Disney. Let me tell you now, do yourself a favor and buy some tickets to The Little Mermaid. You very well could see the show that becomes the "hit Broadway show" of the season.

If you need tickets, you can call the friendly people at Applause Theatre Service in New York City at 212-307-7050 or 1-800-451-9930 or go to www.applause-tickets.com/little-mermaid.asp . Just mention my name, maybe they'll give you a discount if you ask.
