Disney On Broadway

I know what you're thinking. The world's biggest Disney hater in the world doing a blog on them? I must have really lost it.Now to be honest I don't hate everything that Disney puts out. I just don't like them taking over Broadway. In the last fifteen years alone they have produced six different shows on the Great White Way. The Lion King is still running having first opened in December of 1997 while Beauty and the Beast enjoyed a thirteen year run before closing in 2007. Aida enjoyed a nice four year run and Mary Poppins while not a blockbuster has been playing since the fall of 2006.

That brings me to Tarzan and The Little Mermaid. Both shows ran for a little over a year and a half and failed to make it's investment back.I guess four out of six is better than most. Now of the six shows that Disney produced I actually saw all of them except for The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. In case you are wondering I didn't pay for the tickets. I got them free thru work.Regardless of what I think Disney is here to stay my friends. That will never change. I guess I should be thankful because without their shows we might not sell as many tickets. That means less jobs and no more blogs from me. You wouldn't want that to happen would you? I didn't think so. Until next time theatre fans.

The Lion King On Broadway

Can you believe that The Lion King has been on Broadway for over twelve years? Being not what you would call a "fan" of Disney I expected it to be a modest hit that if lucky would run a few years and that would be it. Once again I was wrong. There is no stopping the Mouse. Now no matter how I may feel about the show or it's producers there is no stopping them. I mean look at their track record.

Beauty and the Beast ran on Broadway for over twelve years and spawned successful productions all around the world. Aida enjoyed a four year run and won three Tony Awards including Best Score. Now while both Tarzan and The Little Mermaid were not as successful their production of Mary Poppins continues to do great business not only on Broadway but Nationwide as well.

Now I myself have never seen The Lion King. I take that back. I did see Act One and left after intermission. The show just wasn't for me. Regardless how I feel the show is going to be here for a very long time. I can't control that. All I can do is embrace the fact that without it and other shows I would be without a job. Now you don't want that do you? Where else would you be able to read such fascinating blogs each and every week? Don't worry. I'm not going any where. That is unless Disney takes over all of Broadway. Stranger things have happened. Until next time theatre fans.

See Mary Poppins For Below Face Value

Exciting news theatre fans. Now is the best time to see of Broadway's most loved musicals. I am of course talking about Mary Poppins. The show which is now in it's fourth magical year on Broadway is based on the series of books by P.L. Travers and the 1964 movie of the same name. Growing up as a child the movie was one of my all time favorites. Now not being a big fan of Disney on Broadway I wasn't too sure about seeing the show. To me the movie was as perfect as you can get so going into the show I was little hesitant about seeing a live production. Well I shouldn't have been worried at all. Within the first moments I was hooked. Now whether you're a fan of the movie or not it doesn't make a difference. Good theatre is good theatre. Plus if you call us now we can get you tickets to see Mary Poppins at some incredible savings. Everybody loves a bargain right? Get your tickets to see Mary Poppins on Broadway or at a city near you. It will make you feel like a kid again.

Mary Poppins- Three Years And Counting

That's right theatre fans. On November 16 Mary Poppins will celebrate it's third anniversary on the Great White Way. The show which is based on the beloved 1964 movie and the book of the same name first premiered in London in December 2004. Growing up as I child Mary Poppins was one of my favorite films. Although I was bit skeptical when they announced a live stage production. Not that I didn't think it would succeed. I was just afraid that nobody could ever live up to the amazing and Oscar winning performance of Julie Andrews.

It turns out I was worried for nothing. The show was better than I could have ever imagined. Now those of you who have read my blogs know my disdain for Disney on Broadway. This is different. First of all this is not one of their animated movie musicals that was transformed into a big splashy and over produced Broadway musical. Second the movie is a classic. I don't know anyone who doesn't recall the movie with great love and affection. It is that good. Call now to get your tickets to see Mary Poppins on Broadway. It is truly a magical night in the theatre.

Mary Poppins Continues To Soar On Broadway

One of Disney's most beloved films is now one of Broadway's most beloved musicals. I am of course talking about Mary Poppins. The new musical which is based on the classic 1964 movie was nominated for 7 2007 Tony Awards including Best Musical and has been charming audiences of all ages since it first opened on Broadway in November 2006. The film was a personal favorite of mine as a child and I was so excited that it was being made into a Broadway show. Now those of you who read my blogs must think I've lost my mind. I hate Disney. No what I hate are cartoons being turned into splashy Broadway musicals. Mary Poppins is different. Yes I know there were a few cartoonish elements in the movie but they were minimal. I got the chance to see the show before it first opened and I was so happy that I did. It was like being a little kid all over again. Finally Disney got it right. Let's see if they can do it again. I won't hold my breath.

Disney's Mary Poppins Soars To New Heights

Nearly three years into it's run and Mary Poppins is still a crowd favorite with audiences young and old alike. The show which is based on the classic 1964 movie and the books by P.L. Travers first opened in London in 2004 before opening on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre in November 2006. The movie was a favorite of mine as a child and the show while different in some aspects is just as enchanting. The musical features all the classic songs from the movie along with a few new songs written especially for the stage version. With the recent announcement that The Little Mermaid is scheduled to close at the end of August I expect Mary Poppins sales to increase. Call Applause now to get your tickets to see Mary Poppins on Broadway. It is truly a classic.

Customers talk back with Todd

You know today was one of those days that I love...When one call after another is just a pleasure. I spoke to many wonderful travel agents today that always put a smile on my face, several hotel concierges that are always a pleasure and some of the nicest consumers as well. I had such a great call from a delightful Grandmother bringing her 6 grandchildren in to see The Lion King. I got her the perfect seats for them all to see and we had the best chit chat in between it all. Then a wonderful travel agent called and wanted to book GOD OF CARNAGE, and then she asked me what it was about. I told her it is a raucous comedy where 2 families come together to discuss their kids fighting on the playground and only ending up behaving worse than the kids. She said that sounds like alot of fun and reminds me of a story when my son got in trouble for hitting another kid back after being struck at the Y. She laughed and said I told the administrator who said we have a "no hitting" policy that if you hit me right now...I would hit you right back and I am standing by that with my child. I love hearing other peoples stories.
Travis, an agent from Texas (another of my favorites) called looking for some suggestions for his clients that are bringing the family in to NYC. We went through all the various shows that are appropriate; Lion King, Mary Poppins, Mamma Mia, Bye Bye Birdie, Shrek, Little Mermaid and I think they are probably leaning towards West Side Story. Just another great day at APPLAUSE.

Applause Theatre Service Invites you and your Families to go Fly a Kite with Mary Poppins this Winter and Save Big!

Disney and Applause Theatre Service are offering some really big savings this Winter! One that you should try and catch is the wonderfully staged, spectacular "Mary Poppins". Broadway has great savings these next few months and now's the best chance to catch all of these top shows at a great price! When I first saw "Mary Poppins"(I've seen it 3 times!), we expected to see the movie on stage, but the plays storyline is different. We weren't disappointed at all as that made it a new and unexpected experience. (The songs from the movie are all there, plus a few new ones.)
The staging is amazing. Most of the action centers around the Banks house on 17 Cherry Tree Lane. This three story edifice fills the stage. When it retracts, the attic (where the Banks children's bedroom is located) descends to stage level.
The actors portraying the Banks family and their staff are outstanding. There's always the fear that the "precocious" level will be a bit too high when it comes to child actors, but "Michael and Jane" were wonderful.
It's hard to say which one number was a show-stopper. "Jolly Holiday", "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" and "Spoonful of Sugar" come to mind, but if I had to pick, "Step in Time" is the one that stood out from the rest. Tap-dancing chimney sweeps fill the stage in this rousing number. The standout is Bert who (thanks to Disney magic) walks up a wall, dances across the ceiling, and walks down the other side. WOW!!
On the other end of the spectrum, the beautiful "Feed the Birds" is the same quiet, heart tugging number as in the screen version of Mary Poppins. (Bring the Kleenex.)
There's kite flying and "nanny" flying as well. Suffice it to say, the finale will leave you wide eyed in amazement, but I don't want to spoil it for those of you who plan on going. (I probably said too much already.)
The play ended with a well deserved standing ovation. I couldn't believe it when I looked at my watch and almost 3 hours had gone by! If you're thinking of going, get those tickets now as this Winter Insider Deal is definitely going to help the show sell a lot of tickets very quickly and you don't want to miss out. So call an Applause Sales Expert now at 800-451-9930 and take advantage of this great opportunity!

Applause Theatre Service in New York -Busier Than Ever Helping Consumers Save Money on Broadway Tickets

My name is Rich Gladstone and I am a licensed theatre ticket broker with Applause Theatre Service. I have been doing business in New York City since 1977.Even after 31 years I still love the theatre ticket business.

I wrote a blog posting some months ago regarding our company Applause Theatre Service having "bragging rights" when it comes to having what we feel is the "best" personal service in the Broadway Show ticket service industry in New York City. I thought it was time to update the "bragging rights" we claimed a while back. Here goes fellow theater-goers.

The ticket broker rules regarding allowable resale "service charges" have passed away last June 2007. In that time those of us veteran "legit" ticket brokers have seen lots more small companies opening up shop on the Internet, in New York City and throughout the entire country, all selling Broadway Show tickets just like we have for many years. They may be setting up shop to sell tickets but how well they perform their service is another issue.

Although I lobbied for the deregulation of allowable "resale service fees" we could charge in Albany, New York a few years ago, the goal for my company Applause Theatre Service and a few other legit ticket brokers in New York was to help further legitimize my own company. Not to bring more competition on our own small company. After all, I didn't want my kids Adam and Matt to feel funny when their friends asked them if their dad was a "scalper". So we fought for our rights as a legitimate provider of what we really and truly believed all these 21 years in business, we were entitled to, a reasonable service charge for a reliable, legitimate and personal service. We won the battle and now ticket brokers in New York can charge the service charge they think is fair. In fact many of the ticket brokers have business all over the United States.

Here's the thing I keep thinking about. So now there are many more ticket companies that are selling New York and Broadway. Is there really much more competition for Applause and some of its longtime fellow "legit" ticket broker competitors since the deregulation of "ticket resale" service charge was passed over a year ago? Are these new competitors "real" competitors or just some guys that want to "scalp" tickets and continue to deceive the public? Interesting question right?

Well if you are playing in the game of business for over 31 years like I have been, you get to see a lot my friends. I study the older more professional competition that I have always played with. I also look at some newer, professional competitors in the business. Some are good and offer pretty good personal service, many are mediocre and although I like to think our firm Applause Theatre Service is still an industry leader, you would have to "give us a try" and find out just what a reliable, personal and friendly ticket agency can do for you when seeking out amazing Broadway tickets, at the best prices around.

The thing I keep coming back to is this when studying the various different ticket agencies. It appears that all these companies offer tickets, seats for all events all over the country, mostly at crazy and very high prices for Broadway Shows. Maybe there are some people out there who have lots of money and don't mind paying high prices but is it really necessary? And in my opinion, this is really just the same old "scalper" mentality isn't it. There are lots of consumers still paying an awful lot of money for shows that are "easy to get". Why pay $200-350.00 for a show that is several years old that mostly doesn't sell out anymore? And many of these ticket companies almost force you to "buy tickets on line", without offering the ability to talk with a real live person. This makes no sense to me. When I pay for service, I expect to get service. You know someone that can tell me everything I might need to know about exactly where my seats are in the theatre or if I am paying too high a premium for a show that might not be necessary to pay. What about using a service like Applause where we can suggest places to shop or places to dine in New York City. The bottom line is SERVICE, which we spell with all capital letters friends. The public will continue to have to seek out the great level of service I am speaking of. Anyone in need of assistance and service should call an "expert" in Broadway ticketing service, that's us Applause Theatre Service.

I'll give you some examples. Right now there are tens of thousands of consumers paying full box office retail prices for good solid Broadway Shows like The Phantom of the Opera, Hairspray, A Chorus Line, The Country Girl, Wicked, Jersey Boys, The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins, The Lion King, Young Frankenstein, South Pacific, Billy Elliot, Grease, Gypsy, In The Heights, A Catered Affair, Boeing Boeing, Avenue Q, August:Osage Osage County, Cirque Dreams, Passing Strange, November, Monty Python's Spamalot, Xanadu, Spring Awakening, Mamma Mia, Rent, Legally Blonde, Equus, The 39 Steps, Chicago and Shrek The Musical.

Sure some of these shows are in great demand. Even Applause should be getting higher prices than we do but we are in the service business for the long run, not playing the "get rich quick" game just because there might be a new hit show in town like this year's big Tony Award Winning shows like South Pacific and In The Heights, voted Best Musical in the revival category and Best Musical respectively.

Applause's prices and service continue to amaze an industry where there are upwards of a thousand resellers now. The "bragging rights" I referred to are in tact. If you are interested in any of the shows I mentioned you should seriously give us a call today. We have a chat line if you like to get information this way. Some do and some prefer to call us toll free at 1-800-451-9930 or locally in New York at 212-307-7050, seven days a week all year long. We are even open on holidays, not so much to sell lots of tickets but really to "be there" for our customers who may be seeing a Broadway Show and might possibly have a question about where they should eat before the theatre or suggestions about sightseeing in New York. Our service is tops in the industry, give us a call and you'll see why. There is no pressure to make a purchase at Applause. We're just real people helping you get the "best seats for the best shows at the best prices".

I mentioned over 20 shows up above. There are probably more than 16 or so that we can save you lots of money on. Why not save a few bucks, it can pay for a nice meal at one of the restaurants we would be happy to suggest to you. Even though I know people that can afford to "pay retail", most people I know would like to save $40.00-50.00 on a ticket purchase. If you agree, we are here in New York City waiting for your call.

Remember our phone numbers are toll free 1-800-451-9930 with the local line of 212-307-7050. Our Applause web site is always up to date. We like to think our webmaster is the best in the business as well. His name is Eric Acevedo and can be reached at Visual Media On Line. If you need a new webmster, he's the man friends.

The title of my blog post is truer now than ever, we are becoming busier than ever. The Applause web site brings us lots and lots of consumers all in need of a "trustworthy" Broadway ticket source. That's our company Applause. We hope we can help you, your friends, family and co-workers whenever your plans include a Broadway Show in New York.

Please remember my name is Rich Gladstone and the company is Applause Theatre Service in New York. Call and ask for me personally or for one of our resident theatre experts like J.Bruce, Erik Swanson, Todd Freemen, Teresa Stanski, Carol Burg, Claudia Bombeck (she runs our London Show department as well), Bill Stolting or Billy Fitzgerald. We are here to help you get the very best seats, shows, prices and the great personal service that you desire. Enjoy a Broadway Show. I read somewhere that "there's a little bit of Broadway in everyone". Sounds good to me.

Sincerely,

Applause Theatre Service has tickets to all the Disney hits

There are currently three hit shows on Broadway with the name Disney in it.
The most recent to open is The Little Mermaid, http://www.applause-tickets.com/little-mermaid.asp , the classic Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale with the beautiful young mermaid Ariel searching to find herself, but at what cost??

By the way speaking of Hans Christian Anderson, don't you think that would make an incredible musical based on the great Danny Kaye movie. It has hit written all over it.
Anyway, I haven't seen Mermaid yet but others here have and absolutely flipped over it. Don't listen to those Disney hating critics who think that they don't belong on Broadway. These shows are so entertaining with music everyone knows, we have to see them and enjoy them now before these critics eventually get there way and push Disney away from Broadway.

The Lion King, http://www.applause-tickets.com/the-lion-king.asp , is a show that I've probably seen about 10 times!! Speaks for itself, doesn't it?? A Must See!! At least 4 times! You won't believe how this academy award winning cartoon comes to life on stage!

Mary Poppins, http://www.applause-tickets.com/mary-poppins.asp a multiple Tony award nominee last season and one of my favorite Disney stories. I was a little kid all over again. I sat there in awe of this spectacular production. With it's many classic songs and superb cast, along with the amazing special effects, it's a show the whole family will remember for always.
Give us a call at 1-800-451-9930 or 212-307-7050, or visit us on the web at http://www.applause-tickets.com/.
Right now during the typically slower winter months Applause has uncovered some "insider prices" for nearly 20 shows for most performances, except Saturday nights generally. You can check out www.applause-tickets.com/insider-deals.asp and place on order on the show page you are interested in.

Mary Poppins Tickets In New York-Applause Has Amazing Seats & Prices

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious........ what a great song indeed along with many other toe tapping tunes that help make a day or night in the theatre at Mary Poppins in New York so memorable.

Mary Poppins has been on Broadway now for over a year and is one of the most popular shows playing in New York. Based on on the books by P.L Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, this is the story of the banks family and how their lives change after the arrival of a new nanny by the name of Mary Poppins at their home at 17 Cherry Tree Lane in London.

I loved this show so much that I saw it twice. Right now the friendly Broadway Ticket Experts at Applause in New York have access to some "insider pricing" on Wednesday matinee and evening performances at 2 and 8pm and Thursday evenings at 8pm. The deals are now through March 16,2008 until the traditional busy Easter season is upon us. However, things in theatre change so much on a daily basis, if you happen to be reading this after the "insider pricing" period, you may want to make a call to Applause at 212-307-7050 or 1-800-451-9930 anyway to see if the deals have been extended.

Even if there are no special prices for the dates you require, Applause's staff will always try to get you into the theatre with the best seats at the best prices around. They have been involved in Broadway ticketing for over 21 years now and are a company that you can trust.

Feel free to give the Applause friendly staff a call any time you get a chance right in the heart of New York. Mary Poppins is a great show to see but if you want to consider other options, Applause has many special show offerings available.

See you soon at the theatre.
