Wicked On Broadway
Still haven't seen Wicked yet? Well what are you waiting for people? It's only one of the most popular shows of all time. Now in it's sixth record breaking year on Broadway Wicked is sure to be around for years to come. Having seen the show early in it's run I never could have imagined how popular the show is gotten. In fact after the reviews came out I figured it would run a few years and that would be it. Plus not winning that year's Tony Award for Best Musical didn't exactly change my opinion much either.Yet here we are in 2010 and it is just as popular if not more. Not a week goes by where it is not Broadway's most profitable show with it's weekly grosses reaching over $1.3 million. Not too bad for a show with not so hot reviews wouldn't you say? Look regardless of what the critics say they are not the ones buying the tickets. You are. The theatre going public. Until that stops Wicked will still be on top. That you can take to the bank.

Call Applause For Tickets To See Wicked The Musical
Now in it's sixth year on Broadway is Wicked. The show which continues to play to packed houses at theatres around the world is by far the most popular show for folks of all ages. Most people forget that the show did not get very good reviews when it first opened or that it lost the Tony Award for Best Musical to Avenue Q. I actually remember watching the Tony's that year and to say that people were shocked is an understatement. I personally was happy that the underdog won. Now here we are over six years later and both shows are still running. Of course Avenue Q is now Off-Broadway. Confused yet?See Avenue Q was on Broadway and was scheduled to close last September. However the producers decided that because there was still an audience they would move the show to a smaller venue to ensure a longer run. Pretty smart don't you think? Anyway this blog was supposed to be about Wicked so I better get back to it. Now for those of you who want to see Wicked but can't make it to New York there are other options believe it or not. First you could see it in London. Sure it may be a little further away then New York but if you're there you might as well give it a shot. Now if you can't make it across the pond you can also try and get tickets when it comes to a city near you. Get your tickets to see Wicked The Musical. You will love it.

Now Is The Best Time To See Wicked On Broadway
Don’t tell me you still haven’t seen Wicked yet? It’s only been playing on Broadway and around the world for over six years. Well there’s no better time than the present. The show which believe it or not did not get very good reviews when it first opened in October 2003 is still the number one selling show on the Great White Way with no end in sight. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if one day it surpassed The Phantom of the Opera to become Broadway’s longest running show in history. Now granted they still have a long way to go but if any show has a chance than Wicked would be the one. Get your tickets to see Wicked The Musical on Broadway, London, or any city Nationwide. It is a winner.JWB

What Was The Best Show Of The Decade
Today it was announced that Time Magazine has named Billy Elliot as the "Best Musical of the Decade." Having never seen the show I can't really comment. I can however give you my choice for the musical of the decade. Now to make it easy I guess I could pick from the shows that won the Tony that year for Best Musical. Makes sense right? Surely if the Tony voters thought it was worthy than I should too. Here they are.Contact(2000) Not a chance in hell. Look I liked the show a lot but is not a musical. Aida which was a better show wasn't even nominated.
The Producers(2001)Won more Tony Awards then any show in history. Never saw it. Too much hype. The Full Monty would have been my choice.
Thoroughly Moder Millie(2002) As much as I love Sutton Foster I hated the show. Urinetown The Musical wins Best Book and Best Score but doesn't win Best Musical? Come on!
Hairspray(2003)Great choice. Everything a Broadway musical should be an more. Movin Out was a close second.
Avenue Q(2004) Love the underdog. First Broadway show my parents ever saw. They still talk about to this day. I know the obvious choice is Wicked. Little overproduced for my tastes.
Monty Python's Spamalot(2005)Sitting in the theatre everyone around me was laughing their a** off. I didn't. I would have picked Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
Jersey Boys(2006)Like The Producers I avoided it for almost two years due to the hype. Was I wrong. It is a great show. In my Top 10 for sure.
Spring Awakening(2007)I loved the show. Sure it wasn't for everybody but it was different and took a lot of risks.
In The Heights(2008)Each week I write at least one or two blogs a week about the show. What does that tell you. Passing Strange is a very close second.
Billy Elliot(2009) Winner of 10 Tony Awards. Big deal. Rock of Ages was much better. Same with Next To Normal.
If I had to choose between the winners I would have to say a tie between In The Heights and Jersey Boys. What's your pick? Until next time theatre fans.

Wicked Is Still Going Strong
It's 2010 and Broadway's reigning champ is still Wicked. Who would have thought a show about two witches would become the biggest hit in Broadway history. I sure didn't. Neither did the critics when it first opened back in 2003. Yet here we are six years later and Wicked continues to break box office records around the world week in and week out. In fact just last week the Broadway production broke it's own record from the year before by grossing over two million dollars. Who says that Broadway is in a slump? Most shows after a few years tend to slow down but not Wicked. In all the years in this business I have never seen a show that is as popular as Wicked. I will even go as far to say that Wicked will eventually surpass The Phantom of The Opera as Broadway's longest running show. Sure they may have a way to go but if any show has a chance to do it Wicked does. By the way right now is the best time to get tickets to see Broadway's top show. What are waiting for? Call now and get your tickets to see Wicked On Broadway. It is a must see.JWB

Wicked Still Breaking Box Office Records
Now in it's sixth celebrated year on Broadway is Wicked. In all my years in this business I have never seen a show that continues to sell out every performance like Wicked does. When you consider that fact that it also plays in the biggest theater on Broadway then it is even more amazing. I'll admit that while I did enjoy the show I never expected it would be the big hit that it is today. Don't forget that the show also didn't get very good reviews when it opened either. I guess the critics don't know everything. Now while Wicked may be Broadway's selling show that doesn't mean you can't get tickets. In fact at Applause we can get you tickets for any performance of your choice. Want tickets for a Saturday night? No problem. How about thirty tickets for your school trip next Summer. Just give us a call and leave the rest up to us. It's that easy. By the way we also sell tickets for Wicked in London and Nationwide. Why not give us a try? You'll be glad you did.

Now Is The Best Time To Get Your Tickets To See Wicked
Don't tell me you still haven't seen Broadway's most popular show. It's only been playing for six years. Now in this economy a trip to New York can be expensive. The good thing is you don't have to spend thousands of dollars to come to New York just to see Wicked. In fact you might even be able to see Wicked where you live. Right now the show is currently playing not only in New York and London but at different theatres all around the world. Not bad for a show that didn't get very good reviews when it first opened. What do critics know? They're not the one buying the tickets. You are.The show which first opened in October 2003 continues to break box office records at the Gershwin Theatre on a weekly basis. In fact I dare say one of these days Wicked will eventually surpass The Phantom of the Opera as Broadway's longest running show. Yes I know they have a long way to go but if any show has a chance Wicked does. Now just because Wicked is Broadway's biggest seller doesn't mean you can't get tickets. Here at Applause we can get you tickets to any show of your choice. Looking for this Saturday night? No problem. How about New Year's Day? Just give us a call and let us do the rest. It's that easy. Six Years And Counting-Wicked Is Still Going Strong
Has it really been six years? Time sure does fly doesn't it? You know most people forget that when Wicked first opened up it didn't get very good reviews. Yet here we are in 2009 and the show is just as popular as it ever was. I first saw the show about a week before it's official opening in October of 2003.Is it my favorite show of all time? No. That's not to say that it wasn't good. Besides who cares what I think. The show has been selling out around the world for over half a decade and should continue to do so for many years to come. With some shows I really have to push to get people to see them. That is not the case with Wicked. In fact I would say most of our calls are from people wanting tickets to see the show either on Broadway, London, or even Nationwide. Look I'll be the first to admit that I never thought the show would do as well as it has. I figured it would run a few years and that would be that. I was wrong. I'm glad I was. If it wasn't for that show some ticket companies would be out of business. O.K. so maybe I'm over exaggerating but it is still Broadway's biggest seller. That isn't going to change anytime soon.

It's Wicked Fun!
I don't know about you but growing up I loved the Wizard of Oz. I wanted to be Dorothy so bad I convinced my parents to get me a little pair of red shiny shoes so I could pretend. Fast foward about 40 years and I still love The Wizard of Oz. A Few months ago I had the opportunity to take my family to see Wicked the prequel of the Wizard of Oz. It tells the story of two girls that meet in the land of Oz. One is born with emerald green skin and is smart and spunky and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. It takes you on their journey and shows you how then end up the best of frineds yet one becomes the Wicked Witch of the West and the other Glinda the Good Witch. It will have you hanging off the edge of your seat. For the best seats at the best prices call Applause!!!Carol Burg

On October 30th Wicked will mark it's sixth year on Broadway. Customer Story
That's right all you Applause blog fans. It's time for my customer story of the week. On Sunday's I work by myself. Like most weeks it is slow for the first couple of hours, then a little busy in the afternoon, then slow again. Well I don't know what happened yesterday but from 12-1pm the phone was ringing off the hook. I even had three lines going at the same time. By the time I finished my day I had sold almost as many tickets as the day before and the most for a Sunday since I don't know when. Anyway back to my story.Earlier in the day I received a call from a very nice woman who wanted to bring her ten year old daughter to New York to see Wicked. No shock there as Wicked is the most popular show on Broadway. We started looking at dates in November and while there were seats available they weren't quite what she was looking for. She really wanted to sit in the Front Mezzanine, which is actually my favorite place to sit in most theatres. I told her I could get her seats in that section but probably not as center as she was hoping. I asked her what weekends she was available and she was pretty flexible on her dates. I told her that if she wanted the best seats she was better off going into January or February when the better seats are available.
Well after doing a little research I called her back today with the the good news. I got her great seats in Row B of the Front Mezzanine. Dead center by the way. Well she couldn't have been more pleased. She bought the tickets and thanked me for going the extra mile to get the tickets that she wanted. Another satisfied customer at Applause. Will you be next?

Try us! You'll Like us!!!!!!
My parents always told me to be patient because it would pay off.... Well being in this business one does need to listen and be patient. Case and point. I was talking with a travel agent yesterday and she was looking for tickets to Wicked for her clients. I offered her seats for the show on two dates and she was unsure which the client would want. I told her not to worry she should let me put both sets on hold and contact her clients and ask which they would prefer. She was so happy I could do that for her. Well a few hours later the same agent called me back and sounded a bit panicked. She could not locate her client and did not have an answer for me and asked if there was there anything I could do?. I again told her not to worry as I already extended the hold until the morning. Once again, she was very pleased with our service. When I arrived this morning the first call was from her. She purchased the tickets and thanked me for going above and beyond our duty to help her. I smiled and responded "that's what we are here for, to help you and your clients". If you need to check locations, dates or anything about a particular show please do not hesitate to call and chat with one of our friendly and patient sales agents. Six years and over 2,400 performances later Wicked is still going strong with no end in sight. Wicked-Broadway's Biggest Hit
Can you believe it's been almost six years since Wicked first opened on the Great White Way? Since then it has not only become a Broadway favorite but one of the most successful shows in Broadway history. The show which is also an international sensation continues to sell out every night at the Gershwin Theatre. Most people forget that the show didn't get very good reviews when it opened. Not only that but the show which was expected to win the 2004 Tony Award lost the big prize to the little show that could Avenue Q. Which by the way is closing on September 13. Revisiting "Wicked" on Broadway
Wicked is certainly one of my all time favorite musicals. A rarity for me, it's the type of show that keeps you coming back to see it again and again. That's why the show has remained the top selling show on Broadway the last five years. The Wicked fanatics keep coming back, and I guess I'd have to be part of that group having seen it 6-7 times now. I've lost count. I love going back to see the different cast changes and just to see how well it's holding up. Each time I've seen it, I'm never let down. The show stays fresh and sharp with such high energy and the casting of these difficult roles has been amazing. Everyone I've seen has put there own spin on their roles and it always works. It's mainly because of the story and show itself. It's the prequel to The Wizard of Oz and has Glinda the Good Witch befriending Elphaba the eventual Wicked Witch all happening before Dorothy comes along. It's so much fun to watch and you'll leave the theatre singing the songs and wanting to buy the CD that's for sure. If you haven't seen it, you must go. It's one of the greatest shows of all time! And I mean that whole-heartedly!Great deals are available now with Applause Theatre Service! Tickets for this show and all Broadway shows(including Wicked in London and other productions) can be purchased by calling a sales expert live at 800-451-9930. Broadway's Wicked Is Sill Broadway's Biggest Hit
Here we are six years into the Broadway run of Wicked and it is still the most popular show around. I first saw the show during previews and although I thought it was great never did I think it would become the world wide phenomenon that it is today. Believe it or not the show didn't get very good reviews when it first opened. That shows you what critics know. Never underestimate the audience. There the ones buying the tickets after all. After all these years Wicked is not only one of our most requested shows but our biggest seller. I don't expect that to change. So whether you're a fan of the show or not it really doesn't matter. Wicked is here to stay my friends. That you can count on. You know what else you can count on? Applause having tickets to see Wicked whenever you want to go. Why not give us a call? "Wicked" Asks the Question To What End? The Purpose of Our Relationships!
I love the Broadway musical Wicked. For those readers unfamiliar with the story, it is based on the best-selling novel, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory McGuire which runs parallel to the classic novel by L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Wicked tells the story of Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West and her relationship with Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. Their friendship causes them to face their opposing personalities and viewpoints, rivalry over the same love-interest, their reactions to the Wizard’s corrupt government and ultimately, Elphaba’s public fall from grace. The plot is set mostly before Dorothy’s arrival from Kansas and includes several references to well-known scenes and dialogue in the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz as a back-story.
Wicked will be running here on Broadway for the next 50 or so years and on tour in the Phoenix metro area at Tempe’s Gammage Auditorium throughout the month of July, 2009. It also continues to be a huge hit in London and around the world. Find out if Wicked is coming to your area and check this musical out by calling me here at Applause. In the meantime, I wanted to share the lyrics to a song from Wicked. The song is sung between Elphaba and Glinda, just before the finale.
Watch a video of Kristin Chenoweth singing this song in concert. Gorgeous!

For Good
(Elphaba) I’m limited
Just look at me – I’m limited.
And just look at you
You can do all I couldn’t do, Glinda.
So now it’s up to you
For both of us – now it’s up to you…
(Glinda) I’ve heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return
Well, I don’t know if I believe that’s true
But I know I’m who I am today
Because I knew you
Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood
Who can say if I’ve been changed for the better?
But because I knew you
I have been changed for good
(Elphaba) It well may be
That we will never meet again
In this lifetime
So let me say before we part
So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
You’ll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine
By being my friend…
Like a ship blown from its mooring
By a wind off the sea
Like a seed dropped by a sky bird
In a distant wood
Who can say if I’ve been changed for the better?
But because I knew you
(Glinda)
Because I knew you
(Both) I have been changed for good
I ask forgiveness
For the thing I’ve done you blame me for
(Glinda) But then, I guess we know
There’s blame to share
(Both) And none of it seems to matter anymore
(Glinda) Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood
(Elphaba)Like a ship blown from its mooring
By a wind off the sea
Like a seed dropped by a bird in the wood
Changed for the better?
I do believe I have been
Changed for the better
(Glinda)And because I knew you…
(Elphaba) Because I knew you…
(Both)Because I knew you…
I have been changed for good.

"Wicked" Makes People Happy!
I just sold tickets to a young business woman who couldn't be happier! She had her assistant trying desperately to obtain last minute tickets to see "Wicked" tomorrow night but not have to pay an arm and a leg. She has her niece coming into town and apparently this was the only show she wanted to see. Well the assistant found us online through a Google search and her boss just couldn't believe the seats I had and the price we were selling them for. She was dumbfounded and ecstatic! Our price, she told me, was by far the best out there and she just couldn't understand why everyone else out there selling tickets are so much more than us. She told me that she was doing the "Happy Dance" and had me laughing on the phone. What a great lady who told me that she was so glad to find us and that we now have a customer for life and that she will tell everyone about us. How's that for a testimonial. In fact here is her response after I sent her our e-mail confirmation.thank you.........thank you...........thank you.............thank you.............thank you............thank you.....did i happen to mention, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love that! Call Applause anytime to get tickets last minute. 800-451-9930

Broadway's Most "Popular" Musical Is Wicked
Now in it's fifth sold out year on Broadway is Wicked. The show which believe it or not opened to mixed reviews in October 2003 has secured it's place on the Great White Way as one of Broadway's most successful musicals of all time. Having seen the show in previews I knew it would be a big seller but I never expected it to be the mega hit that it has become since then. Since I began working for Applause five years ago I can honestly say that not only is Wicked our most requested show but is the one show that everyone in my office agrees is one of the best they have ever seen. Trust me when I say that does not happen too often with this group. Now having said all of that you might be thinking that getting tickets to see Wicked might be difficult. Not at all. We here at Applause can get you tickets to see this Tony Award winning musical for you right now. All you have to do is call and we will do the rest. It's that easy. Also note that we can also get tickets to see Wicked in London or any city Nationwide. So why not give us a try? You'll be glad you did.Want tickets to any show On or Off Broadway? Call Applause Theatre Service now.
The best seats at the best prices. That's Applause.

Why is WICKED so popular?
A client asked this week “Why is WICKED so popular?” Or as the song in the show says POP U LAR… I didn’t even need to think about it for my response. For the same reason that PHANTOM OF THE OPERA has been running for over 20 years, it is familiar and it is spectacle. Almost every American from 6-80 has seen the beloved WIZARD OF OZ and lived by its imposed morals. “There’s no place like home…” We know the characters, and everyone has a favorite, be it the Scarecrow, The Lion, Tinman or Dorothy. Most would not say the Wicked Witch of the West. However, WICKED takes you on a different path down the yellow brick road and follows The Wicked Witch from birth on to cleverly show you a different twist to who these people really are. With a wonderful musical score by Stephen Schwartz that has teens all over the country singing in their school show choirs to talent competitions, it is no wonder that the show’s popularity is spreading faster than the Swine Flu. Visually it is a bit over the top, including a scene with the famed winged monkeys. But this too is just what audiences want to see. Spectacle is part of what makes Broadway different.I can see good actors perform in wonderful plays all over the country. Or I can see a “road show” of a Broadway show. BUT the one thing that is always missing is state of the art technology that shows the best of the best as far as (spectacle) sets, lights and costumes are concerned. Anyone who has seen a big Broadway show, and a road company of that same show knows exactly what I am talking about. For me and many others that is exactly what Broadway is…the best of the best. That doesn’t just mean the best actors, or the most interesting script it means I want to see on Broadway what I cannot see anywhere else in the country. So it is not just hype that makes people keep coming back to see WICKED and or PHANTOM, it is because they feel there are seeing something special unlike anything they have seen anywhere else. So I say to the folks who are a bit more seasoned and use discretion in choosing their shows…see WICKED and see EXIT THE KING, or WAITING FOR GODOT or MARY STUART. A bit of both worlds is good for all of us.

You Too Can Defy Gravity by Seeing Wicked on Broadway
A few months ago I had the privilege of taking my husband and daughter to see Wicked. Well what can I say except We Loved It!!. With music and lyrics by Steven Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman Wicked tells the story of the witches from the Wizard of Oz (Elphaba the wicked witch and Glinda the good witch) how they met and what transpired to get them to the point of being enemies. Where Wicked ends the Wizard of Oz begins. I now understand why Wicked plays to sold out audiences nightly. The sets, costumes, lighting along with every thing else makes Wicked a must see for everyone when visiting New York. Don't delay call Applause today!!!!Applause is a NEW YORK STATE OFFICIALLY LICENSED TICKET AGENCY of Wicked and all BROADWAY SHOWS.

Former Wicked Star Kristen Chenoweth Keeps Busy
Kristen Chenoweth, one of my favorite Broadway stars most recently seen in Wicked, still doing amazing ticket business after many years in New York, is writing her autobiography. I understand it is called A Little Bit Wicked and is due out in the Spring of 2009 and I can't wait to get my copy.Kristen is one of those very talented actresses that can handle the most demanding role in a top Broadway show as well as the extremely difficult daily routine of starring in a television series like The West Wing as well as a new one called Pushing Daisies.
Kristen has had a terrific Broadway career starring in Off Broadway's The Fantastiks and Scapin as well as Broadway's Steel Pier, The Apple Tree. You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown (for which she won her first Tony Award) as well as playing Glinda, the good witch in Wicked, still playing to sold out crowds after 5 years now.
I often see Kristen walking around New York City wearing a baseball cap and she appears to be a very friendly person saying hello to people that stop her when they notice the former Wicked star coming their way. Boy it would sure be wonderful to have Kristen Chenoweth and Idina Menzel (who played opposite Kristen in the role of Elfaba the Wicked Witch in Wicked) back in their respective role just one more time on Broadway. Do you hear that Wicked Producers? A pretty cool idea if I say so myself.
Anyway, I wish Kristen much success with her new autobiography. I often leave my office when taking a lunch break and walk outside with a favorite book I am reading at the time. Who knows, maybe I will be lucky enough to bump into Kristen Chenoweth again and ask her for an autograph. I bet her life's story will make an interesting read.
For all those Wicked fans out there who loved the show and have seen it numerous times or to those who are interested in seeing other superb Broadway Shows, you can simply call the friendly folks at Applause Theatre Service in New York City. These people know theatre very well and there is never any pressure to buy tickets. They're also a very reliable source for current and future happenings on Broadway and know lots about really good places to eat.
Applause is open seven days a week throughout the year. You can call them in New York City at 212-307-7050 or toll free at 1-800-451-9930. Go on, give them a call. Ask them a question. These guys know Broadway like no one else.
Take care now,
Rich Gladstone
