Musical

The Lion King is a Broadway sensation for good reason. When the show was first created in 1997, people didn’t know what to expect. Was it going to be marketed specifically for children or would they create an adult version of this sometimes dark story? The answer is somewhere in the middle. Visually, The Lion King Broadway show is completely different than the animated film version. There are no overstuffed fur heads on this stage. Instead, the audience is blown away by incredibly original and artistic masks and costume. While the story is still basically the same, the show has definitely grown up. Your children will still love it but as the parent, you might be surprised at how much you enjoy it as well.

The show begins at Pride Rock where Rafiki the Baboon has gathered all of the animals in the Pride Lands kingdom. King Mufasa and Queen Sarabi emerge with their newly born son, Simba, and proclaim that he will be the future lion king. Nearly everyone is overjoyed at the news. The only person who isn’t excited is Mufasa’s outcast of a brother, Scar, who had hoped to gain the throne for himself once Mufasa dies. Eventually, Scar kills Mufasa and Simba runs far away from his kingdom.

After some time with a silly meerkat (Timon) and warthog (Pumbaa) in a jungle oasis far from home, Simba’s old friend Nala finds and convinces Simba to return home to fight for his rightful place as king. After a battle of lions vs. hyenas and Simba vs. Scar, Simba and the rest of the lions emerge victorious and Simba rightfully claims his Kingdom.
