Musical
Memphis Broadway musical tells the story of Huey Calhoun. Huey is a white radio DJ living in Memphis, Tennessee in the 1950's. He just loves music. He plays it all day at his job, goes to hear it on his time off, and is fully interested in finding new artists to play at his radio station. Huey's story is set in the 1950's, a time period in America that was defined by tense racial relations, segregation, and often violence. When Huey discovers a "new" kind of music when visiting the African American bars on Beale Street, he can't help but play it on his radio station. People, both white and black, love this new kind of music and Huey finds himself helming a new Rock n Roll movement in Memphis. In the middle of all of this excitement, Huey finds himself falling in love with a young black singer, and that 1950's town just doesn’t approve.

Memphis Broadway show is based on a concept by producer George W. George. The incredible rhythm and blues, gospel, and modern rock n roll soundtrack was written by David Bryan, keyboardist for the band Bon Jovi. While the show is based on the music of that turbulent time period, the heart of the show is the love story between a black singer and a white DJ. Like many relationships, their love is forbidden which makes it even more intense and emotional. When set to amazing music, their story is incredibly beautiful and heartfelt.
