There’s a new girl in town – Lea Michele will star in Broadway‘s Funny Girl

Lea Michele

I am pleased to announce that Lea Michele plays the leading role of Fanny Brice in one of my favorite shows of the new season, Funny Girl. Lea Michele is best known for starring in the hit TV show Glee and she will start performing on Broadway on September 6, 2022.

The current star of the show is Beanie Feldstein who I personally thought did a very capable job in the starring role. She has a very solid voice and great comedic instincts. Still, I believe she is parting ways with the show due to the mixed reviews that she’s received as well as lackluster ticket sales. I’m sure she will go on to do great things in her career.

Miss Feldstein will perform her leading role through July 31 and then her standby, Julie Banko will take on the leading role from performances beginning August 2 through September 4. She will also play Thursday performances beginning just after Labor Day.

Leah Michele has not performed on Broadway since the original Broadway production of Spring Awakening. She’s been on record as often saying she would love to play the role originated by Barbra Streisand over 50 years ago.

Prior to starring in Spring Awakening, Miss Michele played in the Broadway show Les Miserables as well as the 2004 revival of Fiddler on the Roof as well as created the original role of The Little Girl in the original Broadway production of Ragtime. One of my favorite shows of all time.

Funny Girl was selling extremely well and then sales seemed to diminish after the show's official opening and critic reviews. I’m hoping that with Lea Michele going into the production as well as a few other cast changes, the show will start to sell really well again. I’m looking forward to seeing it again.

I truly hope you enjoyed this post and will call me personally at Applause-Tickets anytime you want to talk about theatre or purchase tickets.
